The notoriously nebulous nature of The Guidelines is almost a running gag.

Incidentally, when I said that this thread had been useful I was confusing it with the last 'State of the Boards' thread ('Not in the Spirit of Gransnet'). This one, whilst I'm sure it was started with the best of intentions, has been more confusing than illuminating, as unless others know more than I do, we are no further forward with knowing what we are, and are not, allowed to post. I hate it when we have spent time on posts only to have them swept aside because of a 'rule' that is not explicit. I understand posts being removed if they are libellous or otherwise offensive, but when whole threads are censored and there is no explanation I find it very unhelpful. If we were told what the rules are, we could self-censor by not posting on threads that were doomed from the start.

It would be deleted Fanny and there would need to be health warning for those of a weak disposition. # fatpantsgirl!

I too feel uneasy about people discussing Al.
No matter how many times it is said, I will repeat, she did not leave because of the SNP bashing, she left because she was upset. All the speculation here won't change anything.

I have seen posts from GNHQ in the past, saying they were deleting threads/posts, because a poster was being discussed.

However, nowadays it seems to be a different team at GNHQ, so who knows?

Did GNHQ say it was against the rules or have people just assumed that because they said something unkind about an absent poster and were deleted. I once got deleted because I said someone who was around anymore was a misogynist. I wasnt deleted because I was talking about him whilst he wasnt around but because it was a personal attack.

If you click on forums and scroll to the bottom you will see forum guidelines.

But you could fall foul of other rules which are an unwritten part of the GN constitution.

No, I have looked there too (albeit ages ago) and there is nothing. There have been threads where people use codes to mention people, and say that lapsed or banned posters must not be named, but that always has shades of the desaparecidos of S America.

I can understand it being frowned upon to talk about banned posters as they can't defend themselves, and personally I don't think it's very fair to say anything negative about people other than in extremis, (and then to their face); but if mentioning the disappeared is actually against the Ts and Cs, I think we should know.

Other than this ( on this thread) I won’t be posting again ( this year) although if anyone revives The Argy for Christmas, I may pop in for a pint of festive poteen.
I didn’t know that Alegrias had left too, or POGS but suspect that many posters have done and it’s just not been noticed.....

I don't think anyone has said anything unpleasant about posters who have left, have they? Rather the reverse.

I think everyone was pleased to hear from lemon grove and how she was happy to retire for while and told her how she would be missed and Aligrias was very much praised. I enjoyed my Border/boarder fights maybe should say sword fights with her and I think she did to and I give everyone a laugh with my atrocious spelling, which I have recently found out I have passed on.
