Okay, it was suggested on a different thread that a new thread should be started about this, so here goes.
So do we need a monarchy today? That’s it really.

Grany completely agree with you. The Windsor family are clearly like an overpriced jar of Marmite.

Rowantree Mon 14-Mar-22 10:01:32

Im not against celebrating. I'd celebrate Johnson's defeat, definite efforts to combat climate change, rejoining the EU, taking in refugees, averting WW3, that sort of thing. Not the longevity of the reign of a ridiculously rich woman and her overprivileged family.

Rowantree Mon 14-Mar-22 09:57:39

Anniebach nah, guillotine more fun.

Soda pop
We are organising an event in our local town Square with the support of the Maire. The Queen is popular here in France. I’m not asking where you live of course but we’ll be in France so it will be good to see some celebrations.
Grany, you don’t want to spoil anyone’s pleasure? ??? You’re certainly trying with your constant repetition.

I don't want to spoil anyone's pleasure what a funny thing to say

You're certainly trying your best on here!

Grany Sun 13-Mar-22 21:46:54

I don't want to spoil anyone's pleasure what a funny thing to say. You go and enjoy your party but consider what you are celebrating Don't be hoodwinked, conned, deceived by monarchy PR propaganda RF always have been there benefiting themselves from public purse In public office equals their private gain. Carry on enjoy your party for parties and people sake.

?Allons enfants de la patrie ... ?

What? Not appropriate?

Callistemon21 Sun 13-Mar-22 21:29:04

Some people just can't bear to see others enjoying themselves, sodapop

Thank goodness the republicans round here are decent, friendly people who will join in even if they are somewhat sceptical.

^waste of public money jubilee parties^

What public money?

Is there free ???

All is at our own expense here.

No-one is forced to attend, you can hide and chunter away nlie about people enjoying themselves after over two years of Covid restrictions if that's what makes you happy.

Agree Callistemon we are organising an event in our local town Square with the support of the Maire. The Queen is popular here in France.

Grany

I live in North Wales it will be good if some anti monarchy sentiments give a showing too mix it up a bit at these waste of public money jubilee parties Don't want people to think we are daft enough to support these people called RF ha ?

What about having your celebrations on another day eg July 14th?

Or do you just like spoiling other people's enjoying for perverse pleasure?

luluaugust Sun 13-Mar-22 21:22:51

The alternative is the potential problem.

Anniebach Sun 13-Mar-22 21:19:15

Guillotine ? Surely guns , it worked in Russia

Callistemon21 Sun 13-Mar-22 21:03:31

That was to Grany

It's not compulsory - you won't get thrown in the Tower if you don't attend

Most street parties aren’t using public money other than for closure of the roads where they are being held. All the ones I’ve seen are organised within the community, with everybody attending contributing food. People want to do this, and that’s a valid reason for them to go ahead.

Our suburban road is having a street party. We plan to make ourselves scarce, or construct a tableau in the front garden of a guillotine and a basket with a few severed heads wearing tiaras.

Oh dear. Perhaps not the best example of a successful Republic.
Not inspiring me with confidence in change.?

I prefer a referendum to murder and violence.

I think they will be a big thing because partly of Covid keeping communities, particularly rural communities, fragmented for the last two years, it’s a good reason to get together

Yes, it is Casdon

Casdon Sun 13-Mar-22 20:37:51

Judging by our community Facebook pages, Street parties are going to be de rigour where I live, sorry to spoil your fun Grany. And no, I don’t live in middle England but in Mid Wales, traditionally Liberal territory. I think they will be a big thing because partly of Covid keeping communities, particularly rural communities, fragmented for the last two years, it’s a good reason to get together.

Wish you lived in our locale * Rowantree* we could have a village crawl, spot the best republican tableau, like the scarecrow one ?

Good idea ?

Callistemon21 Sun 13-Mar-22 19:39:47

I don't know what the Republicans in our street are planning but they are quite inventive!
