The Nextdoor App - thoughts? ?

Hello
Yesterday I downloaded the Nextdoor app, and did all the necessary doings.

It’s not the first time I’ve done it; the previous time it mildly freaked me out and I deleted it.

I feel quite uncomfortable with my full name being on show; and I’ve been inundated by men (only men) wanting to ‘connect’.

I’ve had a pleasant chat with a lady regarding my need for a cleaner, so that’s one positive.

What are your experiences with Nextdoor?
Thank you smilebrew

Kalu it driving me potty already for all of those reasons!
It will not accept my password whatever I do.
So I can’t edit my name.
I doubt that I’ll even be able to delete the dratted thing without a password! ?

Sorry Fanny I have just caught up with your post. I deleted by pressing unsubscribe to the many emails I received. This has worked as, should I want to look at any posts on their site, I receive a message telling me I have to rejoin.

The emails have thankfully stopped.

@ FannyCornforth all positive, I love it. I have had a couple of ‘connect’ notes but declined. I live in Greater London where part of the appeal for me and my location is anonymity but I still need local chit chat.

I’ve deleted the app but can’t seem to subscribe to emails…can anyone tell me how? I find it covers too wide an area to be useful to me and I didn’t like the way I was “inviting” random people to join the group! (I wasn’t….but invitations were being sent in my name!)

I've been on it for a while now and have had no problems. My area is only shown and you don't have to use your full name. It's handy to see what's going on locally, get help finding local trades and some people have had their lost pets found using it.

Been on NextDoor for a while now. Not had any problems. You do not have to reply to someone if you do not want to! My friend said it is a bit like a local Facebook, never thought of it like that though! Find it useful if there is something local that needs attention! Try it & if you do not like it delete it ok?

I've just got rid of my last GC's cot today on Neighbourhood. Never had any trouble with it

Facebook is in my opinion much better cornergran as you do not identify yourself you can buy and sell, you get all the local info, weather, gardening, events, accidents, fires, lost and found, shops opening/closing, tradesman recommendations etc etc etc whatever hobbies you have you can find interests and it covers the whole area not just your street etc and no one knows that you are Jane Smith who lives at 25 Smithson Avenue
Oh dear jaffa that was unfortunate

I’m on it, I find it quite useful,

Jaffacake2 Fri 25-Feb-22 20:47:53

Just deleted Next door app as seemed to have put a laughing emoji,by mistake, next to a post about a mother upset that her sons bike had been stolen. She rightfully sent me a very cross message and I apologised profusely . Don't know even how it happened ! But mortified so have left site. It was a bit boring with a lot of missing cats who reappeared a day later !

Farzanah Fri 25-Feb-22 18:41:10

I used Nextdoor successfully to recycle or sell furniture. It’s also useful for recommendations for tradesmen. I’ve now deleted it, because constant postings about trivia, bit like GN ?‍♀️?‍♀️?‍♀️?‍♀️

BBbevan Fri 25-Feb-22 18:32:28

Unsubscribed a few days ago. Rubbish !!

cornergran Fri 25-Feb-22 16:11:12

I’ve been able to simply show my first name and area, no surname or address. I think I changed it in the settings. No problem logging out either. I wonder if areas differ? I’m not a Facebook user so no idea how it compares.

Rosalyn69

I tried ours. It seemed to be full of people wanting work done for free or asking for freebies.

There is a really funny forum on Reddit about this sort of thing.
It’s called ‘Choosing Beggars’ grin

Jaxjacky Fri 25-Feb-22 14:35:39

Hours had so many adverts I deleted it after a couple of days. Similar to others, our local Facebook pages are pretty useful.

It let me deactivate although I won't believe it until I stop receiving emails.
After reading some of these posts I decided better to just stick either local fb.

FannyCornforth Fri 25-Feb-22 11:06:41

I’d be far more relaxed about putting my full name on heresmile

FannyCornforth Fri 25-Feb-22 11:05:21

No, I’m definitely not happy with it Esspee, for the reasons I gave up thread.
And it’s not just my local area.
It’s loads of areas around my city, some of which are less than salubrious.
And at least one poster has said that their address was visible

Esspee Fri 25-Feb-22 11:01:26

I thought the whole point was that you use your name as you are a member of a local community. When pseudonyms are used this can result in trolling. I am happy to be identified through any information I give on my Nextdoor app.

nadateturbe Fri 25-Feb-22 11:00:02

B***er! You have to enter password to accept changes. Sorry. blush

nadateturbe Fri 25-Feb-22 10:56:19

I just access through nextdoor.co.uk. No need to use app. You should see 3 dots lower right.

nadateturbe Fri 25-Feb-22 10:54:30

Fanny you are probably still logged in. Should be able to tap 3 dots choose settings, account, and deactivate.

Galaxy Fri 25-Feb-22 10:36:23

I have joined it and am too lazy to delete but dont think it's great. I have never posted.

Blossoming Fri 25-Feb-22 10:35:52

I’m on it, used it to find an electrician to do a few small jobs. Not had any strange men trying to char me up though!

JaneJudge Fri 25-Feb-22 10:33:37

I don't want to join it but my next door neighbour is on it and she tells me anything I need to know anyway. That said, i'm on our villge facebook page which I suppose is the same but luckily it is all very pleasant, any nastiness gets short shrift and is deleted straight away and it is just about stuff like chickens being loose
