I can't stop watching the news on TV or listening to it on the radio and it is scaring me so much. Those poor women and children who are now refugees. Now Putin is talking about nuclear forces to be on alert!!! I am so scared for the world. I keep crying thinking of how would my grand daughters and my baby grt GD cope if it was them forced to leave home. How is it affecting you??

Apparently, it takes quite a few people to "press the red button" and I don't think they would do it. It was hidden from Trump for all the time he was president, others took over.

Putin would have factored in the threat of the use of nuclear weapons into his plans, prepared long before Lzz Truss got anywhere near the Foreign Office.

This invasion is not a kneejerk reaction to Putin not wanting Uktaine to join NATO or the EC, It is a long term plan by Putin to bring back into Russia, an area of land that was central to the formation of Russian Christianity and which he has always seen as an integral part of the Russian state, not a separate country.

In photographs Putin looks puffy and unwell and rumours abound abotu what this is. I think, whether temporary or disabling, Putin is realising that like everyone else he is mortal and that his time in power may soon end for health reasons.

He is also, it is said, obsessed with what his place in history will be. Currently it is distinctively negative, even from the Russian viewpoint. In his eyes, if he can once again bring back Ukraine and make it, not a separate country, but part of Greater Russia, this will make everything else he has done as nothing and he will be a great Russian hero.

Apparently Liz Truss has stirred things up with her remarks eliciting the Russians to use the nuclear threat. Could someone please reign her in, this is not a game?

If you are saying this, where is the link please. Do you really think a madman would need encouraging, because I don’t. Putin should be called a war criminal, because that’s what he is.

Just read on the BBC news site that pro-Russian Belarus are going to start sending troops into Ukraine.

HolySox Mon 28-Feb-22 13:05:49

EU Jets - reading these aren't planes flown by NATO pilots but just the jets themselves as part of the lethal aid to Ukraine. Likely will be MIGs from Poland, as Ukrainian pilots would need training to fly Eurofighters.

Loved the 'map for Putin' Whitewavemark. Anybody got his e-mail? Maybe we should ask the Russian Embassy to forward.

I see that HMS defender has just left Portsmouth.

X3 War Ships including Defender apparently left last week. (She might have come back in post a "shake up")
The NATO flagship is also one of ours. This is not confidential info.

No mention of EU jets on the news so far.

UEFA should hang their heads in shame Sarnia

Re my post on HMS Defender. The spinnaker tower is lit up in the Ukraine colours ????

Excellent news Whitewavemark2 support at last for the Ukranian people.

DiscoDancer1975 Mon 28-Feb-22 12:30:09

We are praying, but are not worried. The Russians themselves are demonstrating ( unheard of in Russia), and his Generals didn’t look happy in the news we saw.

He is just one man....his Country will turn against him. ?

BREAKING: The EU says fighter jets will be arriving in Ukraine within the hour.

God bless the EU

Let’s hope it’s the euro fighter because Russia have no answer to these. They will take out those convoys.
How does this square with nato.

Post menopause I don’t seem to cry as much as I used to. But have found myself waking up crying for the past few days. I try to take a break from Sky News and listen to my favourite podcasts. Current favourite being My Teenage Diaries on BBC Sounds: real laugh out loud stuff. There are three at the moment, previous series seem to be on audible which I still don’t have. It just gives me a bit of a break from all the terrible things happening. I try to think that I’ve worried about so many things over the years (mainly since I had my children) but I’m still here. I still find it hard to believe we’re in this situation though. Felt the same about the pandemic so I seem to be in a seamless mode of scarcely believing what is going on: it’s almost surreal.

A map for Putin. He obviously needs it

maddyone Mon 28-Feb-22 12:02:44

How can anyone admire a man who sent people to murder someone in a London hotel with Polonium in a cup of tea? Or sent people to attempt to murder two people living in a market town in England with the nerve agent Novichok, which caused them severe illness and killed an innocent English woman in the process? If this had happened in Australia, I think you might had held a different view!

MerylStreep Mon 28-Feb-22 11:59:04

Nanna8
Can I ask how your admiration of Putin squares with your Christian beliefs.

M0nica Mon 28-Feb-22 11:51:00

nanna8 I have always admired Putin

I am sorry my mind boggles. He is and always has been an ex KGB operative. From the start his regime has been repressive and violent. He took what was an incipiently democratic state back to being a state where all opposition is banned stifled or, preferably, killed. He has pursued those who escape his anger in Russia into their country of refuge and set out to kill them.

He has allowed his gangster friends build up huge fortunes by curruption, the term 'Russian Oligarch' is automatically lables someone as corrupt and dishonest. he has done nothing to improve the economic conditions of the ordinary people of Russia.

What is it about him that you so admired until recently and why his perfectly in character acttions in recent days changed your mind.

Calming words Craftyone thanks!

Smileless2012 Mon 28-Feb-22 10:47:52

I hope no team will play them then there's no point in them taking part is there.

nanna8 Mon 28-Feb-22 10:42:04

Well I have always admired Putin but not now. He has turned out to be a violent thug and crazily unpredictable. Once a KGB man, always a KGB man it seems. Is he connected by DNA with the mad Ras Putin? Makes you wonder.
