Nobody should be prepared to play against Russia
Absolutely!
I can't stop watching the news on TV or listening to it on the radio and it is scaring me so much. Those poor women and children who are now refugees. Now Putin is talking about nuclear forces to be on alert!!! I am so scared for the world. I keep crying thinking of how would my grand daughters and my baby grt GD cope if it was them forced to leave home. How is it affecting you??

An inspiring photograph Whitewave.
I hope many Russian people follow her lead. They must be as frightened as the rest of the world and need to brave to take down Putin.
I have little knowledge of how world banks work. What is to stop Putin moving his assets through Belarus or China? Hoping for an answer from those of you who know more than I do.
travelsafar, try and live in the moment, in your world. Listen to music and keep positive. Don`t let these horrors, emitting from putin and his cohorts, affect your psychology. Don`t let those words and deeds beat you down. Carry on doing nice things with the children and grandchildren and avoid the news. Whatever happens, whatever is said, watch nature, it carries on through its cycle, buds open, plants grow. Life carries on

I agree Merlot the courage of the Ukranian people is breathtaking.
Also brave Russians out protesting in the streets about Putin's actions.
Just heard that UEFA is allowing Russia to play football in the world Cup if they play under a different name, pathetic semantics. The Polish team said they won't play against the Russians whatever they call themselves.
Most countries will follow Poland's decision. UEFA don't have the guts to take a stand against Russia. They receive too many backhanders from that direction.

I just wish they’d stop wheeling out all these so called experts on tv. Various supposedly knowledgeable pundits expressed the view that he wouldn’t invade and he did. I’ve just heard another couple stating this nuclear threat is a distraction and he won’t follow it through. I’m hoping they’re right this time because it doesn’t bear thinking about what will happen if they’re wrong.
My mother always used to say that were lucky never to have been in one of those long lines of people (refugees). My daughter-in-law’s mother came from a family of Polish refugees fleeing Stalin.
I feel saddened by the events and keep up with the news, but I don’t watch rolling news bulletins. I was lucky enough this weekend to see my niece and her family who we only saw once since Covid began, and that was because we were in the north for a funeral. Having the gift of a family visit ensured I was distracted somewhat. We discussed the situation but not all the time as we had other family news to discuss.
It’s the breathtaking courage of the Ukrainians that brings tears to my eyes. Watching a group of women making Molotov cocktails as calmly as if they were making decorations for a street party seemed unreal.
They have an inspirational leader in Zelensky but how much longer can the country hold out?
On the news in lreland saw the Ukrainian men saying goodbye to their loved ones as they boarded a plane here to fly back to the Ukraine to fight. It was the saddest thing as they are safe here in lreland living for years in a peaceful place, yet ready to leave all that and go. Broke my heart to see them. So terrifying for them.
Let’s hope someone in the Kremlin “sorts” Putin once and for all. Putin is an extremely dangerous little man.

That’s exactly what I think. Putin is now wounded beast which makes him more dangerous than he’s ever been.
As much as I don’t want him to get off the hook easily, for everyone’s sake it’s the only thing to do.
MOnica I have spent the afternoon wishing my mum was still here as she was always so sensible, measured and calming. Then you posted exactly the sort of thing she would have said. Thank you.
My biggest fear is that unless a way is found in the next few days to enable Putin to withdraw from this catastrophic decision with his pride intact, he will start using nuclear missiles.
The only people who can stop him doing that are those immediately round him, I think and hope and pray that the ministers around him, whom he has been ignoring and not even making a semblance of listening to them, will decide that enough is enough and he will be arrested and deprived of his powers. I think his generals are also aware of the dangers of his behaviour.
I am following this far too closely. I know I need to take a step back and turn off rolling news, but sometimes I find it more stressful not to know what's happening than to know the worst.
It's terrifying, and knowing there is nothing we can do makes it worse, I think.
I’m not immersing myself in rolling news, but keeping up to date with new developments. We can only pray that someone takes this megalomaniac out before more innocent lives are lost.
I'm glad I'm not the only who cannot cope with immersing myself in the news all day long. I care greatly and I have an awful fear that the inevitable could happen, but getting angry or crying all day won't help anyone.
How is affecting me? Well I am glued to the news on all channels and i have shed tears over it all, the heroics of the Ukrainians, the united force of so many countries united against this invasion is just so utterly inspiring. Joe Biden offered to get the Ukrainian president out which came with the reply that he needed help not a ride, even Elon Musk is helping with satellite/s.

I listen to the headlines once a day and that's all. Too much rolling news is not good and there is nothing we can do about it.
We all feel horrified by what is happening in the Ukraine and for the people involved.
You took the words right out of my mouth…

I read the headlines once a day - it is as much as I can deal with.
I do not think we need to get absorbed in the running news bulletins - it will make us all very anxious about something we cannot influence at all. I do care deeply about what is happening, but do not feel the need to focus on it any more than keeping reasonably up to date.
So awful when one person holds all the cards, particularly when associates say he is veering on the edge of madness, exacerbated no doubt by increasing global isolation.
Watched the Neflix,Munich, The Edge of War last night, timely in it's parallels, Neville Chamberlain's futile attempt to get the some sort of peace agreement from Hitler. One of the characters a young disaffected German was on the cusp of taking him, Hitler, out..........if only! Fiction it might have been but that could have changed the course of history.
how is it affecting me it’s not.
I’m not glued to the news, there’s nothing I can do except send money to some charities set up.
He’s not going to drop anything to wipe us out.
MOnica explained everything else I wanted to say.
