What did you have on your pancakes and what will you be giving up for Lent?

Just that really.

There doesn't seem to be any mention of Pancake Day anywhere.

Here in Germany we can't get away from it, although this year the parties and parades were subdued, and many cancelled because of Covid.

The parades in Cologne etc were converted into Peace demonstrations, but there were thousands out on the streets anyway.

Nothing!

Forgot to make them, so will do so today and it will be lemon and sugar. I don't forgo anything for Lent as I don't see how it benefits anyone, I am not a believer, and life is too short.

I am giving up chocolate, which will also help me to lose a few pounds too hopefully.

We do not eat pancakes before Lent. The Danish tradition is sticky buns on the Monday before Ash Wednesday.

I am not giving up anything for Lent - there would be no point as we neither drink alcohol or eat sweet things.

I shall however be saying the Stations of the Cross on Wednesdays and Fridays.

Didn't have pancakes. Not giving anything up, I'm not religious

Lemon juice and sugar. We used to give up chocolate or alcohol for Lent, not for religious reasons, just as an exercise in self-discipline. Since DH had a health scare followed by 2 years of covid and now Ukraine, we reckon that life (which could end or become a lot less comfortable at any minute) is too short for giving up either.

Lemon and sugar for me.
Our church is encouraging a 'carbon fast' so I will be trying to use the car less, switch off electrics etc.

Gwenisgreat1 Wed 02-Mar-22 12:16:36

The only way to have them! with sugar, syrup and lemon juice. As for giving up - I'm giving up giving up - it never works for me.

Henrysnan Wed 02-Mar-22 12:03:34

Trying a bit of self denial here, and will try not to play Solitaire on tablet or anywhere else.

Lemon and sugar on gluten free pancakes.
I stocked up our freezer and larder and , other than bills, have given up spending any money for lent, other than an absolute emergency

Growing0ldDisgracefully Wed 02-Mar-22 11:56:06

We're not religious so not giving up anything.

Naninka Wed 02-Mar-22 11:55:49

Never liked pancakes, even as a youngster.
We're doing a dry March. We do odd months here and there - usually to lose a few pounds.

Daisend1 Wed 02-Mar-22 11:55:17

Not giving up anything.
What other than fresh lemon juice squeezed over a caster sugar covered pancake on pancakes I have made myself not a 'ready made' off a supermarket shelf.Mmmmmm.

Lizzies Wed 02-Mar-22 11:54:57

Golden syrup for me, lovely and sticky. On my own so licked the plate (don’t tell anyone)! Giving up procrastinating over getting the house cleared to sell.

HannahLoisLuke Wed 02-Mar-22 11:53:20

Just lemon and sugar. Can’t give up anything for Lent as I’m already frugal enough and anyway not religious.

Fernhillnana Wed 02-Mar-22 11:50:51

One thing I feel like giving up for Lent is my faith in humanity as I view the horror of the war in Ukraine. But I won’t as I do have a little faith that truth, goodness and peace will win through … eventually. I thought about simply giving up on my Russian language lessons too, but again, I won’t, as some magnificent and universal literature has been written in that tormented country. Don’t like pancakes and my plans to have blini, smetana and smoked salmon for breakfast as I did when I visited Russia some years ago left a nasty taste in my mouth somehow, so I didn’t bother. My prayers are with those brave souls in Ukraine and with those on BOTH sides who fear for their menfolk in this benighted and misguided war.
