I was a veterinary nurse and retain enough knowledge to know when an animal really needs a vet.
What you’re seeing in your dog’s poo sounds as though it’s from his food. Dried cat and dog food is absolute rubbish, it contains masses of very cheap fillers and very little meat.
Vets receive only minimal training in animal nutrition and are usually happy to recommend the stuff they are paid to promote.
Investigate dog food and consider giving him something better.

Spot on watermeadow. I've never understood why people seem content to feed junk to their pets. It's just like feeding your children on Pot Noodles, they'll survive - but in poor health. It keeps the vets busy though!

I have only ever fed my dogs good quality wet food (Lily’s Kitchen). Expensive but the ingredients are good. Perhaps if you try a change of diet you will no longer see these objects in the poo.

Another fan of Lily's Kitchen here. My dog enjoys it and it seems to have stopped the occasional tummy upsets she had whilst on other foods.

Why don’t you review the dog food you are using , just google it.
Check the ingredients and make sure the first ingredient listed is meat.

If this is not good news perhaps review your feeding?

I do a mix of raw and good quality kibble, treats are small balls of raw mince beef. Poo is normal and easy to collect.

Go on to the “all about dog food” site which shows the content of a huge variety of the foods available to purchase tinned, kibble and raw? As others have said some food is just full of “fillers” and may seem more affordable but often your dog needs less of the more expensive brands anyway. Mine are fed on Sensitive Arden Grange which scores reasonably well and costs me around £40 a month to feed all three.

Oldbat1, I looked at their site and be careful as they have their pricing wrong. The one I looked at said needed 900 grams for my dog which is right and the cost £3.45! And could buy 5 kilos for £18 - good price. Went to the actual site and they only sell 500 gram packs at £3.45. I pay average of £4 a kilo with no vegetables from either PaleoRidge or my local venison estate (winter only unfortunately).

The price of raw dog food has gone up lately and getting difficult to find since everyone bought dogs during lockdown.

Do look at the “all about dog food site” as recommended above. You can then choose a quality food fir your dog. We use “Eden “which is a top quality dried food. Our spaniel loves it & is very healthy. We give her bits of raw veg & some fruit for treats, as well as sardines occasionally or bits of fish skin / morsals of chicken. We avoid hide chews or rubbish treats

Similar to suzihi I fed my dogs Lily's Kitchen, fish (microwaved from frozen), and vegetable treats occasionally like chopped carrots. My two nutters seem healthy and happy.

When we adopted our current rescue dog the kennels wanted to know what we would be feeding her because there is so much rubbish in some foods. They were very happy when I said it would be Lily’s Kitchen.

My Border Terrier here is fed on Millieswolfheart Utility Mix. It is 50% fish & 50% veg, fruit, botanicals & herbs. Made without grains, rice, chicken, eggs, beet pulp, synthetic preservatives or additives. Poo is easy to lift. She was 11 yesterday and is still bounding about like a puppy with sparkling eyes and a waggy tail. She is my constant companion.
