Bob Mortimer for PM

Following on from a thread on Mumsnet, where they were discussing the president of Ukraine having been a comedian, it set me wondering which comedian/actor I might like to see leading the UK - I immediately thought of Bob Mortimer. He is a qualified lawyer and seems to be an all-round good egg to me.

Who would you choose?

Sandi Toksvig would get my vote. She founded the Women's Equality Party in 2015, so has a political side as well as being a very clever woman with a great sense of humor.

Love Bob Mortimer, he'd be great! Just finished reading his book "And Away" v funny! I'd also suggest Eddie Izzard...

I would vote for Bob Mortimer any day.

I definitely would not vote for Billy C as I remember Ken Bigley.

I agree the present embarrassing incumbent in No10 is a comedian. He needs to leave asap.
We need someone with a heart and a brain.
With that thought we deserve a decent leader. Scotland has this and fights for her people. Wales also has a decent leader, as does Ireland.
We need someone who is crisp, truthful and will truthfully answer questions. Waffling is not a good skill!
A good leader doesn’t need to have all the answers. He does need to have a team of experts to gather and share info. with him.
The government is too soft and needs a firm hand.
Comedians - we’ve been there and it’s not work out well.
(•not many masks worn at PMQT)

Scentia.
More of a clown than a comedian I’ll say.?.

SiobhanSharpe Sun 06-Mar-22 15:31:41

Not Eddie Izzard!!
Ricky Gervais would be much better. Can’t see him wanting to do it, though - it would mean a massive pay cut!

Lin663 Sun 06-Mar-22 15:46:56

Oh God no! We already have a clown in charge, we don’t need another one!

Nickysmadhouse Sun 06-Mar-22 16:39:50

Pretty sure we already have a comedian as our PM ??

I would vote for Robbie Rinder, he appears knowledgeable, compassionate and I do not think he would be open to ^monetary persuasion^

Yes, now there’s a thought.

For me, if in better health it would be the glorious Billy Connolly.

This never fails to make me laugh;

Absolutely, a hero... a man of immense humour, sanity and integrity, and he wouldn't take bovine excrement off anybody.

BlueCat. My feelings exactly. When Billy Connolly made that “joke” about getting on with it about that poor hostage Ken Bingsly, I imagined his family hearing that and I totally went completely off him and I’ve never seen him in the same light ever since.
I haven’t really given it much thought as to what comedian could replace the clown we already have in downing st but it would have to be someone really down to earth and caring. Not someone who had no idea about the real world while hiding away in their ivory castle!

Callistemon21 Sun 06-Mar-22 20:36:05

I really dislike Billy Connolly.

However, I do think I'm in love with Bob Mortimer!

bee123 Sun 06-Mar-22 21:37:28

oh yes, I'd vote for Ricky Gervais!

How dare you dislike the big yin!?
He is lovely!

We have a clown as pm and we don’t need another. Starter is a lawyer but not a clown so maybe we should have him

Thanks for the link it gave me a laugh. I was thinking if we had Billy for PM could we have his "If it wisnae fur yer wellies" as the National Anthem?

I would love Michael McIntyre for PM.
He is so much fun, and so lively.
I think he would be great.grin

Shinamae Mon 07-Mar-22 21:47:01

Oh dear think I have confused MM with Jimmy Carr. When you get older all these comedians start to look the same!!!

Aveline Tue 08-Mar-22 12:49:15

Jimmy Carr really is creepy!

Callistemon21 Tue 08-Mar-22 13:04:53

I agree, Aveline Jimmy Carr.
Mind you, if he was PM we might not have to pay any income tax.

Michael MacIntyre is the one with the flat feet trisher
His skit about his feet had me watching with tears of laughter!
I know how he feels grin

Aveline Tue 08-Mar-22 14:26:53

I do find Michael McIntyre hilarious. The last time I cried with laughter and could hardly breathe I was laughing so much was at Michael McIntyre but I know lots of comedians can't stand him.

Aveline Tue 08-Mar-22 14:27:40

Actually how about Sandi Toksvig? She's so clever as well as funny. She'd be a great PM

MissAdventure Tue 08-Mar-22 14:35:24

Just to throw the cat amongst the pigeons, how about Russel Brand?
