Do you unpack your case on an overnight break?

If you are just staying overnight in a hotel/B&B, do you unpack all of your clothes/shoes into the drawers/cupboards, or do you simply live out of your case?
Arrive at hotel 2 pm, depart 10.00 am the next morning.

I joined a couple for an overnight stay in a hotel, (separate rooms obviously!), they unpacked every single item into drawers and wardrobes. I found this a bit ridiculous.
What do you do in the same situation? x

Yes always unpack even for 1 night
Wash things stay in a wash bag though. Only put out shampoo etc if more than one night

No I live out of my suitcase except for toiletries and coat/jacket. Strangers drawers, no thank you, this is regardless of the length of stay.

I don't tend to for one night beyond hanging up what I intend to wear the next day.
Most of my clothes can be rolled rather than folded so don't really crease and it doesn't matter how many times I check every drawer, wardrobe etc before I leave the room, somehow always leave something behind if I completely unpack!
I stayed in the Crowne Plaza near the NEC onetime and opened the wardrobe door to be met with the sight of a spotlit dummy complete with a dressing gown (if I wanted to wear it during my stay or pay £30 to take it home!) - I have always had a bit of a phobia about shop dummies , so the wardeobe stayed cosed and otherwise empty !

I'm not sure! Haven't been away for so long. Going away tomorrow for one night so I'll see what comes naturally.

Just live out the bag on overnight or short trip. Throw bag in room leg (hobble more like) it to the nearest pub.

As I stopped using cases years ago in favour of a back-pack, yes indeed I unpack it entirely, hang clothes up in the wardrobe and put my sponge bath in the bathroom.

Heavy things like my sponge bag and extra shoes are at the bottom of the back-pack, but I would probably unpack even a case or bag.

what is a packing cube?

welbeck Mon 07-Mar-22 15:28:35

i never unpacked my case in 4 years at boarding school.

I never use the drawers in hotels or b&bs and only hang coats. Anything which creases stays at home. Shoes and toiletries come out of the bag, everything else stays in rolled, not folded. Underwear in bags. Dirty stuff in another.

This is irrespective of whether the stay is overnight or two weeks. Although I can't remember the last time we stayed two weeks in one place.

Yes to stop my clothes wrinkling and toilet bag goes into the bathroom.

GillT57 Mon 07-Mar-22 14:15:34

It depends upon the circumstances. Generally, I unpack any outfits, stick toiletries in the bathroom, and leave undies and other stuff in the suitcase, using it as a drawer.

Happypie Mon 07-Mar-22 14:08:48

Why unpack a whole suitcase, ridiculous. Everything I need for an overnight stop is packed at the top of my suitcase - clothes for next day, nightwear, underwear, toiletries, makeup, hairbrush.

4allweknow Mon 07-Mar-22 14:07:14

If there is a needfor a special outfit for evening I would take that out and hang up. Toiletries would stay in bag taking out as required. Sometimes don't even fully unpack when visiting family for a week

Stella14 Mon 07-Mar-22 13:49:25

No, I wouldn’t for 2 nights either.

Petera Mon 07-Mar-22 13:46:24

My preferred technique for one night (and not likely to make 'Vogue travel tips') is to wear my oldest underwear which I then throw away and take a clean set out of my briefcase/computer bag...

WoodLane7 Mon 07-Mar-22 13:41:45

Nope; I rarely unpack at all for anything less than 5 days, just live out of the suitcase…..

Theoddbird Mon 07-Mar-22 13:40:34

Seems a waste of time really...

Supergran1946 Mon 07-Mar-22 13:18:29

I use Eagle Creek packing cubes and just lift the cubes into the drawers

pce612 Mon 07-Mar-22 12:52:50

Never

Esmay Mon 07-Mar-22 12:45:03

No , in case I leave something behind and it's easily done .
But -
I hang up a blouse, skirt, dress and /or coat and will request an iron .

I tend to stick to a basic colour scheme -usually black with slashes of colour so I can mix and match .

I find plastic bags useful for dirty clothes /wet swimsuits and use disposable nappies to wrap anything that might leak - shampoo sun cream etc .

I do take care with packing as I've lived out of suitcases for years .

On several trips : the journey home has been delayed -sick children/cancelled flights so I try to preempt any problems .

Grantanow Mon 07-Mar-22 12:43:22

Of course not.

PamelaJ1 Mon 07-Mar-22 10:24:41

I have a small back pack with a pair of knickers , pj’s & socks in.
I’m too gorgeous to need much make up and a few toiletries suffice. So, not much unpacking to do.
I will concede that if I am there for an occasion I will have an outfit that I will hang up and a pair of shoes too.

Freya5 Mon 07-Mar-22 07:51:59

No, have just had a two night break, hangers for tops and trousers , but nowhere to put your smalls , so leave them in suitcase.

nanna8 Mon 07-Mar-22 07:39:18

No, I use those little clothes sacks to separate tops, trousers, nightwear and undies and I only unpack toothbrushes and cosmetics. I do hang coats up though.

BlueSapphire Mon 07-Mar-22 06:52:43

If it's for a special evening event, will unpack my outfit for that and hang it up, also place sponge bag/make-up bag in bathroom. Everything else stays in the case.
