Hats on newborn babies

It is recognised that newborn babies lose heat and wearing a hat helps keep them warm.

Noticing that in friends' shared pics of newborn grandkids or great nephews/nieces the babies nearly always have a hat on. Is this a new thing? Mine never wore hats indoors.
