Nannytopsy - your solar panels must heat the water efficiently to only use 1300 ltr pa. We will be pleased if we get through the year buying 1800 and this is a smaller house than yours ie 3b. Electric fire/oven and hob and our electric is anticipated to rise by £200 pa.

500 ltrs per month seems an awful lot!

Nannytopsy Mon 14-Mar-22 10:00:56

We hadn’t realised quite how efficient our house is, being new to oil. 4 bed , water based underfloor heating with radiators upstairs uses one 1300L tank per year. We have solar panels which also help to heat the water.

ha ha yes VioletSky - I think they'll be squeezing everyone and giving them the pip!

VioletSky Mon 14-Mar-22 07:45:38

Oh dear they might have to rethink that company name when they are squeezing us

Hetty58 Mon 14-Mar-22 07:38:20

Thank Heavens we've had a fairly mild winter. It doesn't look good for next year though.

It is a company grin

Last weekend I bought 500L for £535. On the Monday I bought the same for work at £670, my friend rang that evening to say she had just paid over £1000!
It is coming down, but that doesn’t mean it won’t go up again, I buy 500L per month through the winter, so it’s a worry, but I realise for some families it will be impossible to keep buying it.

SueDonim Sun 13-Mar-22 19:51:25

We call the fuel we put in our car either buggy juice or jalopy juice, which is what my dad used to call it. grin

Boiler Juice was £1.20/L for my area today.

Delila Sun 13-Mar-22 18:52:54

I don’t think any company is prepared to quote a price now, it’s such a volatile situation.

Delila Sun 13-Mar-22 18:50:58

Boilerjuice we’re quoting a price of £1.34 per litre on the 8th of March.

JaneJudge Sun 13-Mar-22 18:16:24

So it seems it is going up rapidly then sad I have a payment plan with boilerjuice but I hadn't considered it would go up quite so much. Even in the 2010/11 winter it was about £1000 for 1000l irrc

Delila Sun 13-Mar-22 17:32:41

Yes, thanks Pamela, this is available here too, but not within the syndicate, which is worth belonging to as in normal times it is able to negotiate very favourable prices.

PamelaJ1 Sun 13-Mar-22 16:58:40

Delila
Our oil company does a monthly payment scheme. We don’t use it but it is available.

Delila Sun 13-Mar-22 16:48:40

We’re in the same boat here, & I’ll be eking out my remaining half tank as long as I can. I’m in a syndicate & for the first time ever we have no prices quoted before delivery, delivery date-ranges are uncertain, & some suppliers won’t promise delivery at all. I have no idea how much I’ll have to pay for the 500litres minimum delivery or when it will be delivered.

The thing about heating oil is that it has to be paid for in a lump sum, not by monthly direct debit, and to some extent it’s always a gamble, but this is beyond any oil-price shock I’ve ever experienced.

It looks as though electricity may turn out to be the least expensive energy in the foreseeable future.

Shandy57 Sun 13-Mar-22 16:16:30

SueDonim I should have said I had the Aga too, I allowed at least 200L for that per month. I do miss it, I hadn't realised how I relied on it for drying coats etc!

PamelaJ1 Sun 13-Mar-22 16:00:52

We have just paid £856 for 1000L. We ordered it about 10 days ago.
I spoke to a friend yesterday, he normally buys his red diesel via a farmers co-op. They now require payment before the fill up and won’t quote a price, it’s what it is on the day of delivery.

SueDonim Sun 13-Mar-22 15:02:24

Yes, we’re hoping to eke out our oil, too. ?

kissngate Sun 13-Mar-22 14:52:30

We paid £364 for 600l six weeks ago. With what was already in tank we hope to have enough until May and I'm hoping prices have dropped by then.

SueDonim Sun 13-Mar-22 13:11:33

That’s a huge amount of oil a month, Shandy! You’ll be glad not to be paying that now.

Oil from Saudi Arabia, a country where they executed eighty one men, just yesterday. sad

Shandy57 Sun 13-Mar-22 12:43:55

I was very sad to have to downsize to this bungalow, but am now appreciating it far more.

My old house had an old oil boiler and I had to buy 600L of oil per month from October to March. I hope my kids now appreciate selling was a very wise move!

geeljay Sun 13-Mar-22 12:43:11

I hear that Boris goes to Saudi Arabia today, to try to secure supply of oil.
