Horrible sky.

We had quite a violent sky yesterday. It wiped out our usual view and left things feeling dirty. It had cleared by bedtime, and when I walked the dog late last night, the sky was clear, with a blaze of stars. I thought I saw a shooting one, but it went so quickly. Still got to clean the car today.

Actually I must have a look. I first thought about it about 30 years ago but there was limited travel there at the time and so shelved it and forgot about it really

Sahara dust from a storm is causing it. It usually goes the other way towards South America where it fertilises the soil.

Today in the south it is gloriously sunny and I’m sitting in the garden - dog just moved because he was too hot.

We experienced one when we were in the Canaries one year; it lasted most of the time we were there, then the skies cleared and we saw an island we hadn't seen before so decided to visit it. La Gomera, it's quite a fascinating place.

I really fancy that. It has a rain forest I believe.

It's worth a visit, quite spectacular scenery! We only had a day tour unfortunately.

We were told that Frau Merkle holidays there.

Had a massive beautiful coloured sky last night probably due to the sand storm

Here in Italy, it is fairly common especially down south. It is called Scirocco.

In my experience, it always occurs when you'e cleaned all the windows or washed the car.

Can cause nasty headaches.

We only have sunshine and rain in the cold northwest but got it quite a lot when we lived in East Yorks. It brought some large funny looking insects one year that we reckoned were locusts and migraine bad heads.

Mine wiped off very easily with a duster.

I could hardly see out of my bedroom window this morning for the thick yellow dust, which was a bit annoying as the window cleaner came 2 days ago!!

When the sand came in France a few years ago we had a heatwave.

It's a calima sand being blown over from the Sahara. Get them in the canaries quite often best not to go outside in it can cause breathing issues and yes very messy.

It hasn't reached us yet in the south of Denmark, but expect the sand is on its way. However, it is a lot better than the sky over Kjev and Mariupol, isn't it?

After yesterday’s rain we now have that dust all over our back windows. But it’s dry, so will easily brush off - I hope, anyway.

Came down to make tea this morning and can hardly see out of our kitchen windows. They really need a blast with the Karcher.

It used to be that if you murdered someone during a scirocco you got a lighter sentence! I think that was also for Spain, Israel and Greece.

That’s strange as I had a banging headache all day yesterday which didn’t respond to paracetamol or ibuprofen.

Sky was the colour of sulphur this afternoon here on the NE Coast.

I wish I'd followed my initial thought which was to photograph a most beautiful sunset this evening (too late now). The sky was glowing an angry red with streaks of green and purple - really most impressive.
Its gone now.
I'm in Cumbria, could it be some kind of reflection from the flying sand you're experiencing making our sky so spectacular?

Got back to my car late lunchtime after finishing work it was covered in yellow dust. Windscreen had to be well cleaned before I could drive home, very yellow sky and poor light . Later we had a really heavy shower so hopefully car is now cleaner. We are in Surrey
