I often read then look at the poster and I do remember quite a few of the names of those who post frequently. There are a small number that I can recognise for their style, usually because of the tone & content (not too pleasant) of the response.

There’s only one poster I’d recognise ( although can’t remember her name now ? ) as I think she’s left?
Always on the politics board & ended most of her posts with an unnecessary nasty few words. So very recognisable.
Can’t say I notice anyone else from their ‘posting style’.

That is, I am like you in that respect, blueb. Never recognise people who leave and come back unless their name makes it obvious.

Baggs Sun 20-Mar-22 10:38:49

Another nope here.

I can't remember anything

I recognised one who got banned and then pretended to be a different poster, i.e different job etc. Their posting style was obvious, you just needed to mention the word teacher and they imploded.

Sorry to hear that Blossoming. My son is the same after RTA.

I can recognise a few posters styles. They seem to have strong personalities and I quite envy them.
But I still get surprised when I think I know how someone feels about certain issues and then they say something and I realise I got it wrong.

I read the name first because it is written in bold above the post so is the first thing my eye sees.

I also find, having been on GN since inception, what 10 years ago? that I do recognise names that keep occurring, especially if they have a 'speciality', politics or, in relation to COVID, pedal unsubstantiated conspiracy theories.

But mainly I just recognise names. Over the years, with regular posters, i do recognise those with whom I seem to share a lot of opinions - and those, who for any reason, consistently disagree.

I am not good at recognising style, why should I when the first thing I see is the name.

I am interested in people, the names they choose and who they are - I have also made several good personal friends through going to GN meet-ups.

Yes same as you BlueBelle wander in and out, realise I have added something which doesn't necessarily follow what has been happening, which is why I mostly keep off the political threads! I do sometimes feel like Miss Marple when I see a problem and think who I know who has had a similar one.

silverlining48 Sun 20-Mar-22 09:25:33

I am like you BlueBell and am always surprised when others recognise style etc. Rather feel lacking in that respect bit am I bovered? Not really. grin

I recognise some of the more prolific posters' names but don't really notice their posting style, unless they tend to be generally rude or aggressive.

There is one poster who is always sweet and kind and a bit ditzy in a nice way. I think I might recognise her even if she changed her name.

Someone on here (a 'known' name) once claimed I was stalking her in retaliation for a post she'd made.

I wasn't, and frankly, the idea I've got enough memory to remember what other posters have previously written about is laughable. I wish!

There are a couple of names on here I agree with most of the time. And a couple who I mostly disagree with. But that's after years of being on the site. Embarrassing actually, that I don't recognize more.

Grannybags Fri 18-Mar-22 16:28:52

I wouldn't know if a poster had changed her name, even if it was a more outspoken person.

The names I recognise/remember most are the ones that were around when I first joined years ago.

I don't usually get taken in by trolls

Blossoming Fri 18-Mar-22 13:08:20

It depends. I have a rubbish short term memory due to brain injury but can collect various random unrelated facts. I have got to know the posters in the ‘Good Morning’ and Soop’s Kitchen’ threads over the last few years and they have been very supportive through some tough times.

I was the admin for a disability charity’s FB group for several years and it’s true that you do start to recognise a poster’s style. You also learn to recognise troll posts.

I'm the same BlueBelle a poster has to have a very distinctive style for me to recognise them. If a poster changes her/his user name I don't recognise their posts.
I think some people spend more time on here and carefully read each post.

Elizabeth27 Fri 18-Mar-22 12:10:35

I don't think they remember what posters have written in the past, there are a few Miss Marples on here that search using the posters name to see everything they have written since time began, usually so that they can be pulled up on a detail or told off for not following their advice previously.

There are also Whattsapp groups, people that email each other and those that meet up so they know their ‘group’ better.

Kate1949 Fri 18-Mar-22 11:58:07

No. I never recognise posters.

Hithere Fri 18-Mar-22 11:27:54

Not alone at all

BlueBelle Fri 18-Mar-22 11:26:27

I really envy the grans on here who immediately recognise a posters style or name and can know if they are like minded or opposite thinkers in the blink of an eyelash
I read the posts thoroughly but rarely find myself looking at the posters name unless I m going to answer the post…. hence I kind of wander through GN answering a question or making an observation but never thinking who I m talking to
Of course there are one or two regular posters who stand out but on the whole I m interested in the subject and not the poster
Some people seem to have incredible memories or observation powers and remember someone who posted once five years ago ?
Am I alone in this
