My first flight was awesome. We were gifted a Concorde Experience over the Bay of Biscay in 1997 (late to everything, I am). I will never forget it, no luggage, minimal fuel and the pilot flew it like it was a fighter plane! Takeoff was incredible and I thoroughly enjoyed every moment and will never forget a moment of it. Last flight was 2017 to Egypt for a Red Sea holiday.

Your first trip on a plane and your most recent one?
(147 Posts)Just thinking back to my first plane trip. It was in 1967 and we all had to sit at the front because of ‘weight distribution’ and it went over to Beauvais. Cheap as chips .
My most recent was to Rarotonga in the Cook Islands and we got the very last plane back before they locked down for a couple of years because of Covid. I’m about to go on a plane again to Norfolk Island and feel quite nervous.

Am I the earliest flyer? It was 1952 New York to Los Angeles by TWA Constellation. I was 2 years old.
We flew with son No.4 to meet my parents who were living in Spain when he was 12 days old.
(We spent Christmas Eve in the passport office in London getting his passport)
First flight in 1967 to Norway, where I subsequently met my Husband.
Last flight from UK to Sweden last week where we live, next flight to Rome on Friday with my Daughter.
I love flying.
It was to Naples, we were doing a tour of Italy and coming back by coach. It was in 1977 and I was 19. My last one was in January 2020 when I went to Norway (Tromso) with a friend, the highlight was husky dog sledding.
This brings back memories… It was in 1952 as an unaccompanied minor on an airspeed ambassador (Elizabethan) to Milan from Ringway via Heathrow. I had grandparents in Italy and made numerous trips alone in school holidays. I now find it hard to believe that my parents were able to let me go! Needless to say there have been many changes to air travel since then and my one regret is that I never flew on Concord. My most recent flight was to Toulouse last September and in a couple of weeks I will fly to Rome. Air travel both shorthaul and long haul have always been a part of my life and I still get a buzz from being in an airport.
My first flight was Athens to Crete in 1963. I was a student and had travelled from London to Athens by train and ship (sleeping on deck). The plane to Crete was a small turbo-prop and it was thrilling to look out of the window and see brilliant blue sea below. The return trip three days later was scary when the plane dropped suddenly. It felt as if we were falling from the sky but it was just turbulence caused by hot air rising from the midday heat of Athens. Most recent flight was Sept 2019, Easyjet Luton to Nice. Departed on time, landed early. Perfect. Next flight? No idea. My travel confidence has waned so much since 2019.
First one in 1954 - the car was driven into the maw of the Silver City cross-channel car-carrying service. "A separate compartment was set aside for passengers, and the cost was according to the size of the car – small, medium or large, at about £18, £22, and £27 respectively." !!!
Last one was back from the San Francisco just before COVID where Dear Niece was living.
I was seven and travelled with my mother to visit my Danish grandmother.
As I had just been seriously ill, and my mother's previous experience of flying had been in RAF cargo planes in 1947, she dressed my in my absolute warmest clothes. I nearly boiled, in a commerical plane!
I flew to and from Scotland in 2011 and haven't gone anywhere by plane since. Much prefer trains.
About 1958 to Amsterdam with school. Then a lot of long haul with my job. Last time was 2011 to Marrakech and after that I really couldn’t be bothered with all the airport nonsense. Loved the destinations just not the getting there. I agree about that blast of hot air when you first arrive, and the particular smells of different countries, really adds to that feeling of being away from home.
My first flight was in 1969 to the island of Guernsey, where my dad was working and my most recent (not that recent) flight was in 2017 to Portugal.
First was in 1995, Scotland to London. Very uncharacteristically
My last flights were to and from New York in 2019.
My first flight was in 1988 to Switzerland and my last was in 2019 from New York.
1959, we flew from Blackpool to the IOM where I had to attend a course in marine biology. Is it just my imagination that my brain thinks that I could see the sea between the 'floor boards' of this small plane.
1964, husband posted to Singapore. Flew by RAF and faced the tail. I think we made several stops for refueling en route ( I recollect that it was 5 but cannot now detail them all).... Rome...... Istanbul( waited for hours there and explored the strange facilities in the airport)..... Bombay (held up again but left in the plane. Could Sri Lanka have also been a port of call?. Was becoming a spot confused with the journey which lasted about 30 hours
2010, we flew to Singapore for our younger son's wedding. \i think it was a one stage journey this time. We went on to have a holiday in China. ( my seatbelt.... Beijing- Xi'an.... was non-fuctioning. I told the air hostess who beamed and said '' Never min' Just hold both ends together and you be OK.'' All the passengers clapped and cheered when we landed safely.....
.and Indonesia where we flew over several active volcanoes and my husband was petrified
Just driven in Europe since..(One can determine the way one might die en route more easily)
1986, I was 37, Austrian Airlines from London to Vienna. Last flight was London to Basel in 2019, but will be flying to Jersey in a few week's time.
My first flight was just after WW11. A pleasure flight round Blackpool Tower. The pilot was a friend of my uncle. It was supposed to be a treat but I was terrified as I was put next to the door. I hung on to the arm of the seat for grim death. I was too frightened to look out. I wish I could go now, I would enjoy it so much.
My last flight was a month ago. From Norway to Manchester Airport where I caught Covid.
Please wear your masks in airports!!!!!
First one was Paris on our honeymoon last one Australia 2019/2020 just before the first lockdown. Loved every minute of it but wouldn’t fly long haul again it’s too arduous even with Dubai and Singapore stop offs. Luckily we don’t have family over there so not essential travel.
My first flight was in 1958 when we flew from Exeter to Jersey on our honeymoon.
My last flight was Exeter to Glasgow in 2019 to visit my sister.
1st flight 1991 to Barbados in December. Loved it, feeling the warm air on arrival. Arriving at hotel, looking out from the balcony onto the private beach in the twilight. Will never be forgotten. Last flight to Gatwick 2020 to visit son and family. Hate the scrum at airports now when boarding.
First flight to USA IN 1960, emigrating
Last flight Australia 2019
My first flight was in 1972 just after I was married aged 19 . My DH was in the army and we were on an RAF flight from Liverpool to Hong Kong . Bit of a long one with stops in Cyprus and the Maldives on the way . We got there 24 hours later .
My last flight was in 2019 for a holiday to Egypt .
My next flight should be in October this year to Dominican Republic.
My first flight was in the 1950s to Macrahanish (on the Mull of Kintyre) from Glasgow. My last was to Palma, Majorca in the 1990s.
First was to Spain with my now DH, last was coming back from a short trip to Spain (is there a pattern here?
) last September
My first flight was from Belfast to Glasgow to start my midwifery training. My last flight was just after lockdown and was from from Cardiff to Belfast after visiting my daughter and family. In the intervening years had a few more exciting destinations.
My first flight was a school day trip from Birmingham Airport to London in 1953 when I was ten. I remember the air hostess brought round a silver tray of barley sugar sweets for when we took off. Late afternoon, after we’d seen the sights and were ready to fly home, a thick pea souper came down and London Airport was closed. What a nightmare for the teachers who had to get more than 50 ten year olds to Paddington Station and buy tickets and sandwiches for us all . We arrived home at the local station very late in the evening.
My last flight was a few years ago to Marco Polo airport , Venice, en route to Padua.
I can't remember my first as I was a baby; my parents took me by plane to Scotland to be shown to my mother's maiden aunts. The first one I can remember was flying back from Bombay to the UK when my father's contract ended. It was on a Boeing 707 and I can remember how excited my parents were to be travelling by jet. We had to dress up to travel. There were stopovers at Karachi and Frankfurt and I think somewhere in between though not sure where.
My last flight was last year - we had a few days in Gibraltar in early July.
