I was 21 and had saved to take my first foreign holiday. My sister, 2 friends and I went to Austria for 10 days. It must have been 1973. We had a lovely holiday in and around Seefeld.
The last time flew anywhere, DH and I went to Lake Bled in Slovenia.

If all goes well this year we are going back to Sorrento where we honeymooned 40 years ago.
And then at the end of November we are taking a plane to New York. It will be my first long haul flight. I've never flown further than Turkey.

First flight was in 1954 from Hong Kong to Singapore in a RAF DC6 rudimentarily converted from carrying stores to carrying people.

There was no pressurisation and no noise control so there was no point in talking as no one could hear you over the noise of the engines and you could see the sea below showing round the door. We faced backwards and every child had to sit next to an adult, which meant a poor unfortunate squaddy.

Catering was boxed salads from the Hong Kong Dairy Company, stacked just in front of the loos and the Officer in charge sommoned a squaddy to pass them round at lunch time. We stopped for refueling at Saigon. At the time Vietnam was a French possession, but the French were withdrawing and the airport was closed as too unsafe the following week.

I was 8 and just thought the whole thing thoroughly exciting

I cannot remember when I last flew. I think it was about 10 years ago and we flew on holiday to Norway. I am going to Norway this year - but by boat.

I think I was 12 or 13 (so 1962/3) flew from Speke airport to somewhere in France to spend the summer with a family my dad knew from business !

Last one from Milan to Manchester after Christmas with covid brewing unbeknownst to me !

1974 to America to join a ship with my husband.
last time was 1992 when we flew home from America where he had been seconded to a job by his employer. We flew loads in between, always to join ships before he was promoted ashore. I loved it.

My first trip was the first stage of emigrating to Australia in 1982. We stopped over for a week in Los Angeles ( there was a sporting event we wanted to attend) and at least my first flight was only 8 hours instead of about 28!
It was a bit disconcerting, on leaving LA to be seated next to an elderly lady , who was clutching her rosary, with her prayer book open for "prayers for safe travel" and "prayers for during an aeroplane flight" !
My last fight was 10 years ago on the way back from Australia after going there for my godson's wedding . No idea when the next one will be - need to win a lottery before I even think about it!

My first flight was on one of those ?
We had delivered a yacht to Oostende and the owner flew us back to Southend.
That was quite something as previous owners put you on the ferry home.

First Spain in 1972. £49 for two weeks in Callela (sp).
Last I can't quite remember but it may have been Dublin about 6 years ago. We've flown to many, many places in between. I don't like it one bit but my husband likes to travel.
I can't see us ever doing another one with all the palarver you have to go through now. We're not bothered as we've been everywhere we wanted to go really. Although I might be tempted back to Venice.

Mine was back in 1967 as well. Seven months pregnant and going to join DH in Malta where he was stationed. I still remember the waft of warm air as the doors opened and the slightly spicy, definitely foreign smell came in. Completely pleasant I must add for the sake of our Maltese members.

I was 13 and flew from London to Renfrew on my own to stay with family friends. My last was returning from Sydney the day before the first lockdown. My next is tomorrow and I’m not looking forward to it much : Sydney via Frankfurt & Tokyo. I think lockdown has made me less confident even though I’ve travelled to Oz on numerous occasions.

I don’t think I will ever do the long haul flights again, they take too much out of you. My limit now is 8 hours .

First flight 1973 to Torremolinos on honeymoon, I was so excited but scared too! Last flight was coming back from SW France last September, with all the form filling and testing rigmarole, off to Madeira on Saturday with none of it, thank goodness.

First trip was on a Boac flight to Belfast in the 60s. I'm not sure of the year. Possibly 1968. I felt very grand and sophisticated. I was about ten. Last flight was 2019 and easyJet to Prague with a friend. We had a lovely time. I don't know when I'll fly again.

First flight when I was 16 - from Southend to Guernsey. Little prop plane with "deckchair style" seats. Halfway across it hit an airpocket and plummeted very rapidly - I was scared s***less! I spent the whole holiday fearing the return flight. I acquired a sedative for the return, but we arrived at the airport and there had been a crash on the runway (!!!) and our flight was delayed long past the scheduled time and by then the sedative had worn off.

Never flew again till about 1960 when I flew to Austria and back - I hated it and have never flown since.

nanna8 My first trip also 1967 to Beauvais from Kent on an Avro747!
Last trip to America in 1994. DH retired after flying round the world on business (once went to Australia to speak for 40 minutes at a conference) and never wanted to fly again.

Mine was 40 years ago . I was 24 quite late compared to travel these days. Went to Tenerife on a holiday with another girl. Arrived to the hotel at midnight. It was dark, felt warm and tropical and you could hear the cicadas (sp). I felt I was in paradise never experiencing anything like it before.

Last flight was a week ago flying home from Palma. Quite straightforward apart from DH booking into the seats on the back row as most seats being taken. Very intimate and not a lot of arm room etc. Won’t book those again.

Just thinking back to my first plane trip. It was in 1967 and we all had to sit at the front because of ‘weight distribution’ and it went over to Beauvais. Cheap as chips .
My most recent was to Rarotonga in the Cook Islands and we got the very last plane back before they locked down for a couple of years because of Covid. I’m about to go on a plane again to Norfolk Island and feel quite nervous.
