It was coming up to the Victory in Europe, 50 Year Anniversary in 1995. At the time I had just recently started working with the Army and I was giving a presentation on suggestions of what we could do to celebrate and which day over the weekend would be best for everyone. In front of some fairly high up Officers, I announced that I had asked round the men and the best day was Friday for VD Day. That was it, everyone just fell about laughing with a few comics saying their VD Day wasn't Friday as the clinic was too busy then.

Twin brothers who lived nearby were both thalidomide and neither had arms.
We'd only just moved in and the first time I saw them they were carrying a ladder between them, and having some difficulty.
So what helpful comment came out of my mouth?
"Would you like a hand?" ?

We've all done it .

I also thought that someone was pregnant as her tummy was so big .
My tummy tends to swell when I get IBS and someone said it to me some years ago .

I've also said can you see to a blind person !

I was sitting quietly at a party chatting to a friend trying to put a brave face over the death of a close relative.
When a guy came up and said, what happened someone died ?!

When I was in maternity ward I passed a lady in the corridor and said a friendly\smiling something to the effect of 'you're almost there'. 'Yes, two days ago' was her response. Yikes!

When I was in Aldi a lady in front of me in the queue had a basket full of baby bits and bobs, I said is your baby due soon, she said I've already had my baby, I didn't know what to say. When I told my daughter she said I was fat shaming ?

My husband who doesn’t have a lot of hair said to a friend at the gym who also doesn’t have alot of hair who was rubbing a solution into his head ‘it’s no point rubbing that into your head it’s not making your hair grow back’

Friend said to DH ‘I had a skin cancer scare on my head so advised to rub in this factor 50 suncream when I go out’.
DH was so embarrassed so he does the same now into his little bald head?

Recently a friend asked if I knew someone from our small village, after his description I said the only person I knew couldn’t be the crazy woman who lived in the end cottage with all the dogs because she had moved away, I also said a few other things about her which weren’t too complimentary, but all true ( m’lud)
Oh ok ,he said, that sounds like it’s her, I’m bringing her over tomorrow with me for supper . ( MrOops had invited him over).

Dear readers, It was her…….and my views still haven’t changed, although I played nice.

I sympathise CrazyH, as I did the same thing to our next door neighbour when we moved here many years ago.
We did become good friends.

I once asked a young black girl in my office what Rastafarians believed in. She said 'How would I know?' I was mortified. What a ridiculous thing for me to say. blush She never spoke to me again.

I Once asked a young Bank Clerk, “when’s the baby due?” - I was terribly, terribly embarrassed and upset, for her sake, when she told me she wasn’t pregnant. I think that’s the worst faux pas ever.

Does anyone find themselves putting their foot/feet in mouth, knowing you are about to do it but can’t stop?
I’ve never ever said ‘can you see what I mean ‘ but once when talking to a blind lady I couldn’t stop saying it. I was mortally embarrassed but the more I tried to stay away from sight images the worse I got. How about your foot in mouth moments ?
