The ‘hipster’ beard is over…

…according to today’s Times, anyway.
Three cheers from me - I really hate those scruffy little so-called beards that just look as if the bloke hasn’t shaved for a week.

I hope I’m not alone!

Beards will never be over for me.

I love 'em!
They are each so unique, they give character to their owners face.

It's the big bushy beards I don't like. Especially if bit sof food get caught up in them. Eeugh!

I love beards SIL and DH both have one. SIL has a hipster and keeps it well groomed look extremely smart and DH has a goatee. They both look like skinned rabbits without one lol

I can't agree about Salvage Hunters T. I think he looks scruffy since he grew his hair and beard.

Coastpath

Damn. Just as I was managing to grow quite the beard. grin

My favourite beard of the moment belongs to T on Salvage Hunters. He looks almost biblical with his curls and beard.

Got quite worried today when a lady shoplifter asked me if I wanted to buy any razor blades.? Eldest son, ahead of the curve, shaved his beard off a few weeks ago and looks so young, wholesome and clean!

DH sometimes has a beard & sometimes doesn't . To be honest, I don't really notice whether he's got one or not, I'm not bothered either way. The beard is fairly minimalist, not one if these bushy efforts. DS has had a beard since he was about 18 - nearly 20 years. I can't imagine him without one. It's always very smartly looked after & it suits him. Most of his friends have beards, I can't imagine them suddenly shaving them off.

Beards are great. Long or short, a beard is lovely. If you have one just wash it and care for it a little.
Fabulous!

This was my lovely Dad…

Don't like beards or moustaches never have. They always seem dirty to me Yuk

Mamma66 Tue 29-Mar-22 19:53:02

My lovely Dad grew a beard when I was about 3. Apparently I refused to kiss him for weeks! He definitely suited a beard and had one for the rest of his life, but it was always neat and he was quite dapper and had a real sense of style. So I love them. DH alternates between clean shaven, stubble, goatee, I like him all ways and as it’s his face, it’s his choice.

Yuk! Bug traps. A real turn off - creepy.

Does the hipster look include a haircut with shaved sides and long on the top in a Clem Fandango topknot?

Why are they any more bug traps than your head?
confused

I think beards suit some people, my DS has one and it looks good but he is very dark haired and it’s a well groomed beard. I’m not so keen on the fair bum fluff type or the shaggy unkempt look. If men have had a beard for years and then suddenly shave it off they look really odd, takes some getting used to. I dare say the trend will change again, I remember a lot of the lads having moustaches in the 70’s but they went out of fashion after a while.

I quite like the not shaved for a couple of days look - but those bushy hipster beards are repulsive to me!

Magrithea Tue 29-Mar-22 15:27:14

DH has had a beard all the time we've been together (44 years and counting!), both sons have beards so I'm on the beardie side I'm afraid. MiL and SiLs said I should make him shave it off, but it suits him and it wasn't my decision. He grew it on his gap year (a long time ago).

I'm can't stand middle-aged/older men with ponytails though!

I quite like facial hair too grin

I don't mind it, I suppose, but I don't want any myself!

I love a trimmed, neat beard on a man.. It's really sexy.
But I think those long bushy beards look awful. They look even worse on young men for some reason.
It makes them look too old and also a bit shifty.

Petalpop Tue 29-Mar-22 14:42:20

I love a beard, on men of course. DH has one and so does my DS. Trouble is my chin has been trying to grow one too since I have got older.

Saggi Tue 29-Mar-22 13:49:45

My 14 year old grandson has just had his 2 ft long hair cut short …, I’m suspecting a girl on the scene …or boy! I’m not gonna be accused of homophobia!! And now he’s showing signs of needing his first razor… so any month soon I expect a beard! Lose it on the head and they’re determined to ‘let the hair grow anyway!!

annodomini Tue 29-Mar-22 13:37:21

HannahLoisLuke Also kissing a bearded man leaves you with a rash and hairs in your mouth. Wow! you must have snogged some scruffy males! In my youth, I had several bearded boyfriends and never had that experience! The one I married shaved his (goatee) off the night before the wedding!

grandtanteJE65 Tue 29-Mar-22 13:36:23

Some men can wear a beard, others not in my opinion.

However, "the can't be bothered to shave" look that the younger generation call "designer stubble" looks dreadful to me.

BUT my mother said the same about young men with shoulder-length hair, Indian sandals and shaggy fleece jackets when I was young in the 1970s.

MeowWow Tue 29-Mar-22 13:27:24

Years ago, at work, a bloke there had the worst scruffy beard I’ve ever seen. There was always bits of food sticking to it and we used to joke that he used to hide his food in his beard. I’ve disliked beards ever since. Especially long bushy ones. Also, how do you kiss a man with a beard when it’s growing over his mouth? Yuck!

knspol Tue 29-Mar-22 13:24:38

Hate facial hair of any kind especially my own!
