I don’t remember the Barnaby Rudge, we frequented either the Cafe Royal or the Hole in the Wall.
I can’t remember the location of either but they were very central.
I think the Hole in the Wall closed last year, it was opposite the top of Milton Street, to the left. I don’t remember the Câfe Royal.
I too thought Irish coffee to be very ‘cool’!
Lovely Grandmabatty to have tired boy slumbers at yours under his new dinosaur duvet cover. Bet you are happy and contented right now. Don’t we just adore them?
Shh! ?
Shh, everyone. Toddler is abed and there's not a sound so far. We've had lots of fun so far. He's been as good as gold. Fingers crossed he stays asleep til the morning. ?
Hi everyone, Loch Lomond has bittersweet memories for me, enjoy your stay Grannmarie.
Pleased that op is done successfully Yia he’ll be a new man!
Fun evening in store Grandmabatty memories to tuck away.
I’ve sorted out veg plants to give away, courgette and beans, then three cucumber plants appeared on our doorstep! I was going to put in some flower seedlings, hoping for rain later and I’ll do it tomorrow.
Left MrJ watching the game in the pub Urms I’m watching at home whilst sorting dinner.
Have a pleasant evening all x
Hello everyone.
There are broad smiles here, after redundancy earlier this year our son has secured a new role which is ideal for him - or sounds as if it is. ?. Celebratory lunch tomorrow. A weight has lifted.
We wandered a rhododendron wood yesterday. It was magical. Very pretty, quiet with wonderful bird song. I’ll try a photo. No promises though.
Good news yiayia, you must both be relieved. Not long for mr soop, the very best of luck to him.
That’s odd hellogirl, perhaps it will never happen again, just one of those things. Your grandson will have a fabulous time grandmabatty. Please can I come for breakfast?
Hope your son stays restriction free shazzza, we do worry about these adult children. We love a steam train blossoming, had a ride behind one last week, from Cheltenham into the Cotswolds, hope you enjoyed seeing some today.
It’s been a busy day. Beach walk this morning, some shopping, a trip to the tip, tidying after causing chaos making some changes here, I even fitted in a visit to a friend. Good day for sure.
Be good everyone. Look after yourselves.
‘Evening All’
What a gorgeous afternoon of sunshine! No cold wind today either. We sat outside a bar in Urmston and enjoyed a couple, as you do. It was busy. Nice to see folks wearing sunglasses instead of masks! I felt as relaxed in the sun as though I were in Malaga it was that warm at 3pm.
?
Yes annsixty ‘actually ‘Hole in the Wall’ is the one Himself remembered concerning Berni Inns in Manchester. I however have no memory of it! We must have frequented both though.
He’s watching Liverpool -v- Chelsea. Extra time now. As a Man U fan I’m afraid he’s ‘anyone but Liverpool’!
Soop, lovely sunsets again, you really should take folks` advice and do a calendar, I`d buy it!
Grannmarie, Loch Lomond is beautiful, hopefully you`ll just get in before midge season gets underway, they nearly ate us alive when we stayed there!
My second youngest great grandchild will be 1 year old on Tuesday, they`re having a special family day out at Ferry Meadows, near Peterborough tomorrow to celebrate.
I`m glad Mr Yia has got his cataract op over with, good luck to Mr Soop, he may find he looks a little older, but he`ll also find he`s as handsome and distinguished as ever.
Billy is due his vaccination booster, I rang the vets yesterday to book him in.................the earliest appointment available is on June 9th!
I have 2 gates to my back yard, a normal width one that is the one most in use, then a double width one at the far end, leading out onto the street at the back of us. We keep it bolted most of the time, but for some reason the other day someone opened it and left it wide open. One of Lynne`s carers fastened it the following morning, but later in the day it was wide open again. My BIL fastened it in the afternoon and this time it`s stayed shut.
Good afternoon lovely Kitcheners. What a beautiful day. I’ve been in shorts today. Dh has done the garden ready for us going on hols next week he wants to get everything planted.
I’ve been packing and trying on clothes over my ever expanding waist line but managed to rake enough up for the week.
No wonder I’m having a glass of wine now lol darned well need it.
Yiayia I’m so pleased your DHs cattaract op went well and he’s seeing in crystal clarity just about.
Grandmabatty enjoy your DGS for a sleepover I’m sure he’ll love his bed.
grannmarie enjoy a glass and Eurovision I wish I was watching it with you. We are going to friends and she hates it so I’ve no chance tonight but enjoy our lovely British Viking and his song. Ukraine will win I think. But hope we get a few points.
Soop enjoy the lovely sunshine with Mr Soop. ?
Enjoy your weekend everyone with all your artistic activities and family visits
Speak soon x
So pleased the op went well Yia and your DH can see much better - not long now for Mr Soop
Have a lovely special time with your DGS grandmabatty - enjoy every minute and I hope he sleeps well in his new grown up bed
I’ve been busy in the garden all day, tiring but I enjoy it. I’m just in now, I’ve put the kettle on and a cup of tea is on its way
Have a great time at Loch Lomond Grannmarie a beautiful place
Wishing everyone a lovely evening
Grandmabatty Please may I join the grandson? He's in for a real treat, or two, or more.
Yia I am very happy for Mr Yia. Lordy, does this mean that Mr Soop will wear two eye patches? We shall find out more when he has a telephone conversation on Monday. Tomorrow, he has a Covid test in Campbeltown.
Grannmarie Wishing you a sunny visit to Loch Lomond. It is a beautiful spot. I shall be thinking of you.
Shazza Ouch!
Blossoming I shall be making an appointment with the hairdresser very soon. I like mine better when I've slept on it. Never like it to look "just done". I must be slightly strange.
Urms L'il Miss makes perfect sense. Don't you just love the smart answers that trip off the tongues of wee folk?
It is a perfect day. Mr Soop is cutting the grass. I shall make him a well-earned
and sit beside him on the bench, in the warm sunshine. Sounds like a good plan.
TOYA and hoping to join you again in our kitchen tomorrow.

That's good to hear Yiayia. I'm glad it's done. No bending, showering or lifting stuff mind! Grannmarie have a lovely time celebrating your husband's birthday. The weather is set fair today and tomorrow I believe. Soop you posted beautiful photos of sunsets again. No such luck where I stay. Blossoming, steam trains? Dgs1 would be there in a shot! Enjoy.
I'm twenty minutes away from chaos descending. Dgs1 is coming for a sleepover. I have done the housework and washing and prepared the house for his Lordship. Pasta with tomato and olive sauce and garlic bread, followed by chocolate mousse. There is fresh fruit galore. Breakfast will be sausage and potato scone with homemade pancakes. He is very keen to try out the big boy bath. Enjoy your evening Kitcheners.
Great news, MrYia and YiaYia, glad all went well!
MrSoop next?
Brilliant news Mr Yia! Just a warning- he may find that his mirror tells him that he's aged a bit..
Good afternoon Kitcheners.Mr Yia had a very successful op yesterday. He says his sight is now so clear and bright. He has a bit of stinging but nothing much.Collected him yesterday with the eyepatch!Captain Birdseye springs to mind,(Well he is an old sea dog??)Your turn next Mr.Soop, not long now.

Good afternoon, Soop and lovely Kitchen people!
I'm just popping in to wish everyone the best weekend possible, whether at home or away. I've just been watering the garden, front and back, first time this week cos we've not been short of rain! This week looks promising weatherwise. ?
I had a lovely evening with my sisters, cheese and wine and putting the world to rights. I'm very thankful that we are so close emotionally and geographically. ?
Some batch cooking today for next week, chicken soup and mince dishes, then I must pack for our overnight tomorrow at Loch Lomond. It's part of DH'S birthday gifts from the family, very kind.
Later, I might sit down with a glass of something to watch Eurovision.

Ooh yes BlueBalou I’d forgotten those divine coffees with Tia Maria! The height of sophistication for 22y old me. When I look back now we were babies. I often felt I was ‘playing’ at being a grown up then ...
Urmstongran
I’ll join you Jax cheers! I’ve just poured a schooner of Croft Original sherry (remember them?). Berni Inns of the mid 70’s come to mind - Barnaby Rudge in Manchester where Himself & I used to get the 83 bus back in the day for a steak dinner - so extravagant with Black Forest gateau but we felt so grown up newly married, paying our mortgage and dining out very occasionally. Sherry always reminds me of those exciting times.
Oh Urmstongran, that brings back memories- Berni Inn Bath, steak and chips and an Irish coffee (with Tia Maria) and cream floating on the top. I remember trying to copy that but unless you put sugar in the black coffee the cream sank when it ran off the back of the spoon.
Those were the days….sighs….
Sweetie pie looks very mystic and omniscient, there’s an inscrutable aura to her.
All good wishes to Mr soop for next week, I hope everything goes smoothly.
A beautiful sunny end to the day here, I hope the weekend is warm for everyone.
I had an a painting with acrylics session this afternoon, apparently I paint in a ‘watercolour fashion’ with them, not terribly sure if that’s good or not (I suspect not!). I have dug out my watercolours so my weekend will be spent trying to get my eye in again (I haven’t done any for many years)
I hope everyone has a peaceful weekend x
Good evening lovely Kitcheners just reading through your posts.
I didn’t get chance yesterday as I was with my parents. My poor dad is in agony with his foot after dropping a box on it. He’s on strong antibiotics but I think at 81 things don’t heal as quickly. He said that he feels the cold so much more now and he said things start shutting down at 81. He’s feeling sorry for himself. I said it could be your blood thinners Dad.
Hope Mr Yia’s operation has gone well today.
Will be thinking of Mr Soop having his own cataract operation next week. Fantastic sunset pics again. Enjoy your glass of wine tonight Soop.
Just watching on the news about China’s zero covid policy. Draconian in the 21st century. Our son lives in Nanning in China and we are praying his city doesn’t go the same way. ?
Sorry don’t want to bring the mood down.
I think we are all in for a gorgeous weekend. Hope you all have lovely plans.
Cheers to you all? TOYA x

Good evening dear Kitcheners. We have been out most of the day including a visit to the hairdresser for me. It’s been mostly sunny but very windy. Fortunately it didn’t rain on my lovely hair, and as it’s a fairly simple shape it soon goes back into place after being windswept
(I’m not really terribly vain!).
Lovely to read about everyone’s day, you are a busy and talented bunch! Things are livening up here as the days get longer, the weather better and the effects of Covid are lessening, although it certainly hasn’t gone. Tomorrow we will be watching steam trains and Sunday it is the university dragon boat challenge. I have missed these events over the last two years.
Good luck with the quiz NannyTopsy.
Hope Mr, Yia is now recovering from his op.
I’m tired now so dinner will be toast and tomato soup, my comfort food during childhood illnesses. Then we will watch a few favourite YouTube channels while I try to stay awake…

Brain has gone awol here, Tesco is tomorrow! Quick dinner revision! We’ve been to the pub, but sun going behind the clouds and a keen breeze ensured a brief visit. I drink shandy there, how have a glass of Tesco’s zesty fruity, cheers all.
Hope MrYia is ‘done’ and safely home, thinking of you Nannytopsy poised with the microphone, I’m sure it’ll be brilliant.
Could you please manage a few cheese scones Dogsmakemesmile? I’d be very grateful ?
Glorious sunset soop thank you.
Enjoy your evening all x
‘Evening All’
What a glorious afternoon. Himself suggested we arrive at school pick up with their bikes as it was so sunny. They were surprised and delighted as they usually go home to their childminder until 5pm. I went to Reception class to meet L’il Miss. As she clipped on her ‘Frozen’ helmet we had this conversation:
L’il Miss: “Did you bring my new fan grandma?”
Me: “ha no! You can’t fan yourself while you ride your bike!”
Leila Miss: “I know - but I could always stop my bike and have a fan when I get hot.”
Can’t argue with that logic can you?
Me: “Good idea! I’ll bring it next time ...”
