Countess you have been here before and stopped posting for a while. It can happen to anyone on here but don’t let it put you off. It can be very useful here especially if you need advice or support when something is troubling you.

BlueBelle Sat 02-Apr-22 16:25:40

It must be the thread Smileless as countess says it was her one and only post before she withdrew
Anyway Countess I think the posters have either gone or reformed so don’t worry too much treat this as your first thread
What would you like to talk about !

Smileless2012 Sat 02-Apr-22 15:44:26

You're right BlueBelle a couple the of posters on the thread JaneJudge gave a link too were banned.

It doesn't look as if that's the thread Countess is referring too JJ as that one was about her relationship with her d.i.l. Having looked through it Countess there were some rather unpleasant responses so I'm not surprised you were put off.

I hope you have a more positive experience this time around; welcome backsmile.

It can be a bit intimidating at first Countess but the odd robust skirmish has genuinely helped me see different points of view to my own. I don't always agree with them but just widening my range of opinions is a good thing.
And there's a lot of kindness on here tooflowers

Sometimes a seemingly innocuous remark will result in pitchforks at dawn, don’t worry about it, it’s good to get another’s point of view but better if it’s said nicely.

For me real life is more awkward, I tend to think something and can see by peoples faces that I said it out loud!

At least in real life you can laugh it off, bit more difficult online.

Anyway, welcome……

I really don’t care what reaction I get and expect a tussle over some things. It’s one of the interesting things about human beings, we are all different.
The anonymity is a mixed blessing as posters, including myself, feel they can be blunter than they might be face to face.
No excuse for downright rudeness though!
Try not to take things to heart.

Welcome Countess. I started a thread and had good positive replies when I joined years ago. I then started another one and had some nasty replies.
Over the years you get to know those who are likely to be less than kind and that the majority are considerate and willing to help.

I agree. There are some posters on here who could start a row in an empty room. But you get to know the names and realise they're not representative of gransnet.

Keep posting, it understandable to some extent when words typed out replace face to face, people are sceptical... smile

Don't be put off, post away, get comfy on the sofa, kick off your shoes and join the gang, its a great place to be here on GN.

Here is your ☕ and slice of ? ....

Enjoy smilesmile

What a lovely welcoming post!

This is going to become (is already) a thread about a thread; and it won’t be long before we’re all sniping about other posters.

I see that it was over a year ago that you posted last CF

Anyway, just start the conversation please grin

BlueBelle Sat 02-Apr-22 14:42:49

Janejudge I recognise some names in that thread that I believe got banned at another time Maybe I m wrong I don’t have a good memory for names or threads

Blossoming Sat 02-Apr-22 14:41:20

Hello CountessFosco, I vaguely remember that post, but didn’t know the outcome. Hope you have a much better experience this time.

Vintagejazz Sat 02-Apr-22 14:36:37

I nearly allowed a group of bullies to intimidate me off the site. I even went as far as deregistering after a particularly callous post. Then I realised they were just a small group of childish spiteful women in a sea of calm reasonable grown ups so I re-registered.

CountessFosco Sat 02-Apr-22 14:35:05

Thank you kindly for your replies - simply looking for reassurance really, having been so put off at Christmas {season of goodwill}???
Am sure there are very kind and helpful contributors and will look forward to hearing from them after posting again some time.

This one? smile

BlueBelle Sat 02-Apr-22 14:30:18

Well welcome again Countess hopefully this one will go better
There are mostly nice people on here but afraid as in real life you ll meet some with rather ‘strong’ opinions Try and take it with a pinch of salt and don’t take it to heart or you can point out how blooming rude they are being
I left for a year after I first started posting because I felt ignored at first then a bit undermined by a poster that’s no longer on here, but that was about ten plus years ago ….then I pulled my big girl knickers up and started to grow a harder shell
Good luck

Vintagejazz Sat 02-Apr-22 14:28:37

Don't let bullies drive you off gransnet CountessF. Most posters are perfectly reasonable and pleasant.

FannyCornforth Sat 02-Apr-22 14:27:13

Go ahead!smile

silverlining48 Sat 02-Apr-22 14:26:43

Hello CountessF .and welcome. Sorry you were put off last time and hope things go better this time. Most are nice. Good luck.

Lucca Sat 02-Apr-22 14:24:48

Ok, but what is it you want to say this time ?! I’m sure you will get a positive response.

CountessFosco Sat 02-Apr-22 14:22:42

For the last few months, I have been a " lurker" - this because after the first and only post so far, the aftermath left such an incredible reaction. Briefly, I posted that we had loaned some equipment over Christmas. Some of the responses were so vehement, bordering on vitriolic {one contributor wrote "what kind of gullible idiot are you anyway"} - breath-taking, that is it only now I have the courage to post again. Have to add though, that that particular post apparently breached the guidelines of GN and it was removed, but of course the damage was done. So.....trying again in the hope that this might elicit a more positive response. sunshine
