Resettling in another country

It must be terrifying.
I caught a snippet of a woman being met by the person who was taking her in, though, and it was very touching.

She looked so beaten down and exhausted, and just went and lay her head on her host's chest.

People are very kind (usually)

And they are the ‘lucky’ ones. Not to mention all the other refugees who don’t get that kind of welcome.

It must be very difficult for them, they’ve left almost everything behind, including the men of the family, husbands, fathers, sons, brothers. They have now got to try to build a new life in whatever country they’ve arrived in, whilst knowing what is going on at home.

I try and imagine myself arriving in Ukraine (or anywhere else). Knowing nobody, having nothing except what I stand up in, maybe having children with me, unable to speak the language, not knowing the fate of those left behind.

It is a terrifying thought and hopefully all these displaced so violently will find safe havens until they can return.

It is hard for any refugee fleeing war or persecution due political or religious belief, sexual orientation etc. Most are reluctantly leaving family & friends, a whole culture: language, custom, food etc.. It is why many refugees prefer to live close to others from their homeland & maintain their culture/ language etc.. Often to the annoyance of many citizens of the host country.
