We haven’t seen our son and his family for nearly three years because of Covid restrictions etc. They live in Spain). They were due to be arriving on Weds, but they all caught COVID about two weeks ago . Recovery was going well but now DS has come down with a very bad chest infection that necessitated a hospital visit today. Now I am worried for him and disappointed at same time. It was also the last opportunity for them to use the voucher for the flights that they had booked when Covid started. ( He is kicking himself that he didn’t get a refund).
We had such plans as three birthdays in the rest of family coincided with their visit.

I'm really sorry. That must be absolutely gutting for you. I hope they will be able to travel soon.

I hope he recovers fast and you can plan a trip soon

I can imagine Nandalot having family abroad. But try to be positive, you will still meet up sooner or later, just think of that.

I can understand your disappointment. But 3 years because of Covid restrictions I don’t get. We’ve been back & forth several times. Covid has been the last 2 years not 3. But still doable surely - unless there are other factors here that we are not aware of?

Anyway I hope you all get to meet up soon.

That’s such a shame Nandalot. I am sorry and hope your DS recovers quickly. That is the most important thing of course, but understand your disappointment.

I m so sorry what a disappointment for you all

I flew with my eldest to my youngest daughters for my birthday early March Two days in I got CoviD as did my eldest then my youngest and two out of three grandkids I spent the holiday in bed Cost a lot of money to stay in bed away from everyone trying not to pass it on to anyone else ?
and wishing I was home

SueDonim Sun 03-Apr-22 15:49:19

Oh, such a shame! flowers

Are you in the UK? If so, he should be a lot better with AB’s by Weds and be able to fly. ?

M0nica Sun 03-Apr-22 15:59:08

Oh what a shame, I do hope you can see them soon.

Nandalot Sun 03-Apr-22 15:59:18

Nearly three years, Urmstongran, because we saw the whole family in the summer before Covid struck. For various reasons, shielding, in hospital, term dates etc. we could not organise it before.

Yes hope you meet up soon...but other factors going on? My DS lives in Canada....he's been back twice since covid ...just fitted the visits in between the restrictions

Urmstongran Sun 03-Apr-22 16:23:28

Fair enough Nandalot. Family circs make an impact of course.
I was just pointing out that since March 2020 (the start of restrictions) we’ve been over to Spain on numerous occasions.

I can appreciate things prevented this within your family and I can appreciate the disappointment you must be feeling.

I can totally understand your disappointment my son lives in China and we went in April 19 and were going to go back in January 20 or them come home but because of covid it’s not happened. Their borders probably aren’t opening until at least November. My son can come out but couldn’t get back in at the moment so there’s no chance of seeing him yet. We don’t have the worry that he’s ill or anything like your soon so that’s something.

PECS Sun 03-Apr-22 16:56:33

Oh so sorry! How disappointed you, and they, will be feeling ?

silverlining48 Sun 03-Apr-22 17:10:28

You have travelled to Spain numerous times UG?
Most people i know , like us, havnt been out of the country since March 2020. Our last flight was 3 years ago. My dd lives in Europe and we hadn’t seen her since 2019. and we saw her earlier this year.
I hope Nandalot sees her family soon. It’s been hard on all of us especially those of us with children abroad.

Probably a silly question, but if they're normally regular travellers do they have an annual insurance policy that would cover the value of the vouchers they now cannot use due to illness? Worth a phone call?

Jody1234 Sun 03-Apr-22 17:15:45

So sorry to read your post Nandalot. How disappointing for you. You are doing what is right for your little family.
I hope things are ok with your son, you must be so worried.
Hopefully you will get to see them soon and can celebrate the birthdays.

Luckygirl3 Sun 03-Apr-22 18:12:56

Oh no! I hope your soon will be well soon and able to arrange another visit.

Jane43 Sun 03-Apr-22 18:44:17

They may have travel insurance as a benefit which is part of a bank account. As Vra said it’s worth checking.

Urmstongran Sun 03-Apr-22 19:37:15

You have travelled to Spain numerous times UG?

Yes I have silverlining and so have many of my friends.
Some to play golf.
Others to visit family.
Many reasons - a holiday, a funeral.

It’s been more than possible.
Of course many were hesitant for individual reasons, others not so much.
