Has anyone had experience of the Nest or Hive smart thermostats? They sound a great plan to control heating & maybe save money in the long term? Obviously there is the initial cost of buying/fitting. I would also like any help re getting a system fitted too.

We have Hive. And we love it , you can just switch on and off , boost the heat when the temperature drops for an hour or more as you need ,
The real bonus is being able to control the heating if you are away , we have been away in the Lakes this weekend, and when we we about an hour away from home, I used the app on my phone to switch the heating on , so we came home to a lovely warm house on a particularly cold weekend,
The initial layout for the thermostat was around £200. , and we did get a free Alexa with it it was fitted by British Gas and the engineer talked us through the controls , Go for it. Pattie 47 I don’t think you will regret it ,

Hive is easy, very user friendly and excellent customer support.
Nest is a complete nightmare, awful and over complicated.

We have a Nest e as we have a combi boiler. It only works the heating as the hot water is on demand.
I got it brand new from eBay for a bargain price. A lot of people are given them free with energy deals and don't want them so sell them on. It is easy to fit yourself or you can ask a professional.
I find it very easy to use and have it set up on a schedule. I can even ask Alexa to turn the heating up or down.
DH hasn't downloaded the app so there are no more thermostat wars as I will always win!
The cons are that it needs to be plugged in and it can disconnect from the WiFi. I have yet to see if it saves us any money.

We have hive and OP said we’re very pleased with it, being able to control it away from home

We never fiddle with our thermostat, and anyway, it has a holiday setting that we use when we are away from home. Just set it before we leave and forget.

I really cannot be bothered with controls that have you constantly pressing buttons or setting options.

Set and forget is my preference.
