This was the subject line of an email I received from 'Family Search'.
It got me wondering/pondering and I still don't have an answer.

Are there any particular havens for Gransnetters, or maybe times, if not places?

When holding a sleeping grandchild in my arms - brings me to tears of sheer happiness and such an overwhelming sense of love and serenity …

When I'm in my (small) conservatory, watching lots of different birds and squirrels eat the bird food, nuts etc. I'm disabled, but am taken out in a car twice a week.

In quite a few places - cooking in my kitchen, sewing in my studio or painting watercolour landscapes. Walking in the woods or in quiet areas, sitting in the garden when all around me is quiet.

Just sitting out in my garden with a cup of tea and a biscuit!
My garden looks over a river meadow , and it's lovely to be able to watch the different bird life.
The only blot on the horizon is my next door neighbour who is a chain smoker , 24 hours a day (she stands out in her garden in the early hours , smoking)
The stink of the smoke is not pleasant and I sometimes wonder if she deliberately waits until I am in my garden before she comes out of her house ! Funny thing is, if she has friends or family round, and she hears me outside, she begins whispering in daylight hours but talks loudly after dark! She's Polish so I don't understand what she is saying anyway!

Reading a book because my mind is concentrating on the great story, and not on my own thoughts.

As many others, looking at the sea. It even speaks back to me wink

Walking in the woods surrounding our caravan site - did this only yesterday. In among the thousands of beautiful trees, there are two particularly interesting and very old beech trees, with conjoined branches, interesting formations and all sorts of knobbly growths, and giving off a sense of profound peace. I always stop beneath them just to soak up some of that peace.
Being in my garden, either gardening or crocheting or lacemaking, listening to the birds singing, and watching the cheeky ones near my feet hoping for food!
A wonderful combination happened in the early summer of the first lockdown, when the weather was warm, I was in the garden lacemaking, and the vixen who was raising her cubs under our shed, came and curled up near me and kept me company while she had a snooze in peace away from her demanding brood. That experience of shared peace and trust was indescribably beautiful.

Sitting in the garden on my own especially in the evening when it's lovely and quiet except for the birds singing and I enjoy a cup of tea or a glass of wine and a good book. Perfect peace for me.

Always in a church or cathedral and definitely on holidays, when I can forget my cares and woes for just a little while.

When I am sitting on a beach looking out to sea. I could watch the waves for hours. Hopefully a flask of coffee to drink.

I feel at peace when I wake up in the morning and realise that ahead of me is a day where I have nothing to do but chill out and do exactly what I want to do......grin

My beloved Westie on my lap , in the kitchen chopping and preparing food, baking and sitting on my favourite chair knitting, I am a generally relaxed content person. No great unfulfilled ambitions and happy with what I've got.

I used to live in Whitby and quite often I'd get up really early, make a flask of tea and sit in the churchyard of St Marys (top of the 199 steps).
I'd watch the sun rise and the town wake up....wonderful peaceful memories.

I always feel really peaceful on a Sunday night when I'm cozied up in my bed knowing I don't have to be up early ever again for work on a Monday morning

Walking in the sun with my headphones on listening to my favourite music on Spotify. Baking in my beautiful kitchen all alone anticipating the looks of happiness on the faces of my family when they come for tea.
The quiet time after they leave!

By a river or my favourite upland reservoir with a rod and a box of flies, taking in the wildlife, listening to the silence. I feel centred. Unfortunately, haven’t been able to do it for a while, and life is not very centred at the moment.

Billybob4491 Mon 11-Apr-22 08:33:24

Sitting in church and listening to the organ playing.

Escaping to our cottage by the sea. Away from the madding crowd.

When my husband isn’t in the same room. Since he retired I did not foresee how grating I would find only having only one room to sit in. I feel I’m joined at the hip. We used to have a large house with 2 sitting rooms and a large study but that’s another story.
