Do you think you have a guardian angel?

Although not religious, I am agnostic so have an open mind, I do believe I have a guardian angel. I was in full blown alcoholism from the age of 15 to 28 when I went to AA and got sober, I can remember some things that happened to me during those years but a lot I cannot, just some flashbacks but I really think I am living on borrowed time and should’ve been dead a long time ago, I’ve put myself in very very dangerous situations over those years. The one thing I could not get my head around in AA was a God who apparently looked after drunks, well not all of them a lot of people die drunk a lot more than get sober. Also this higher Power that apparently looked after me, why didn’t it look after a 16-year-old girl who was cutting through the park to get home and she was raped and murdered why was she not saved by her higher Power? Anyway for those reasons I do believe I do have a guardian angel and I think it could probably be my aunt May who used to tell me she used to pray for me and luckily I was sober when she died at the age of 88 actually on her 88th birthday… And very controversially I don’t see alcoholism as a disease, No one held me down and poured drink down my throat and I knew what would happen when I got drunk but I continued to do it. Cancer is a disease, my brother died from it in 2003 at the age of 49 and I still feel guilty about that and feel I should’ve been the one that died not him, he was such a good man. Anyway to the main point of this thread, do you think you have a guardian angel?

MissAdventure, I wish I knew and for me it wasn't all the time.

No I don't believe in guardian angels but I had a friend who did, and who was the epitome of one herself. I have several small angels dotted about the house she gave me at various times; sadly she did not have the happy ending to her life she deserved, and I sincerely hope she is now at peace surrounded by her angels.

I don’t think I have one, but if I can I will keep a special watch on my grandchildren when the time comes.

I had that feeling in the first flat I lived in.
Not a guardian, but a sense of the lady who had lived (and died) there.

Mine was my granny. I didn't see or hear her, but I had a strong sense that she was there. Not in a judgemental way, but just present. I didn't feel protected, just as if she was keeping me company. I'd quite like to feel her presence now, although I don't anymore.

I'm not being facetious, but for people who believe they have a guardian, what kind of a being is it?
A family member, or a supernatural being of some kind?

Sara1954 Fri 15-Apr-22 08:44:07

I can’t really think of anyone who would care enough for me to devote their spirit life to watching my every move.

MissAdventure Fri 15-Apr-22 08:37:52

No, I don't.
I'm not sure why some people would have one, and others not.
I'd expect the supernatural realm to at least have some sense of justice.

Yes I do.

Harris27 Fri 15-Apr-22 08:19:46

Oh definitely for me I know I have. Too long to explain but yes I feel I have and it’s real for me.

AGAA4 Fri 15-Apr-22 08:17:29

I think there is still a lot we don't yet understand. I try to keep an open mind so there may be guardian angels.

When I was at school we were very much fed that idea, which automatically triggered "why then do awful things happen to some children and not others" we were all supposed to have one, guarding us from danger. Nice idea when aged 5 or so, it doesn't take long to work out it's just a load of flim flam. Kind of gives out the wrong message to children, insomuch they don't have to worry about their safety because they have an invisible presence doing it for themhmm

Like you I suffered from Alcoholism but later in life and have found sobriety in AA for the last 16 years
Do I have a guardian angel probably Do I have a spiritual faith that was not there before most definitely. Do I now have an inner peace that prevents me getting overwhelmed by life’s changes then again most definitely. AA has given me so much more than stopping the booze
I do tend to disagree on the disease definition if you look the word up in the dictionary it tends to describe it pretty well. Our brains certainly function very differently around alcohol.
I was at a clairvoyant event at a friends house the man looked at me and said there are four people around you in the spirit world he went on to describe family members in accurate detail, very weird.
Sometimes in life we have to accept we don’t know it all

I was very close to my maternal grandmother and for a long time after her death, I felt her presence very strongly. I had a very difficult childhood, and I wonder if she did this to comfort me.

That feeling has faded as I've got older, but it was such a strong feeling.

I've got no religion and I'm not a spiritual person, and as a child had no knowledge of guardian angels, so... I really don't know.

HettyBetty Fri 15-Apr-22 07:48:08

No, I'm a very pragmatic, sort yourself out kind of person, but genuinely happy if others feel some sort of presence or whatever.

Esspee Fri 15-Apr-22 07:26:18

Sorry no, but if it gives you comfort what’s the harm.

Allsorts Fri 15-Apr-22 07:12:59

I used to think I had.

BigBertha1 Fri 15-Apr-22 07:00:47

No I don't but I have my Dad and the things he used to say in my head and he is a comfort and guide for me.

Blossoming Fri 15-Apr-22 01:39:04

I’m an atheist. I don’t think it’s a guardian angel, but I have felt a comforting spiritual presence in times of trouble. I don’t want to go into detail as it’s very personal.

I’m willing to accept that it may be a product of my damaged brain, I have experienced hallucinations at times. Nonetheless it comforts me somehow.

BlueBelle Fri 15-Apr-22 00:41:47

No afraid not I guess I m not imaginative enough and only really concentrate on real things

Pepper59 Fri 15-Apr-22 00:39:30

Chestnut, I have felt the same. There are situations I have been in that could have gone horribly wrong, but have felt the sense of being looked after and at times, rescued. Angels come in many guises and are not always obvious.

Chewbacca Thu 14-Apr-22 23:58:03

Well if I have, they're not doing a very good job of it.

Chestnut Thu 14-Apr-22 23:52:17

Yes I do believe I have a guardian angel. Unexplained things have happened where I felt someone was looking after me. Also, events in my life have unfolded as if they were destined to happen in that way. You suddenly realise that something took place just in time, sometimes just a few weeks before something significant happened as a result of the first thing. And even stranger things happen when you do your family history, as if someone is giving you a helping hand. I have felt many times that I am being looked after.

henetha Thu 14-Apr-22 23:51:50

No. But I fervently wish I did.

Kate54 Thu 14-Apr-22 23:32:36

No. I prefer to believe in luck. Good or bad.
