Easter Sunday

I wish all Sundays were like that. It was lovely to have a quiet restful day every week.

It's the only day of the year when all the supermarkets are closed. Still, convenience stores are open as usual, so no panic if you need something.

I thought all the shops close on Christmas Day as well.

Not so for the whole country. The only day most shops are closed in Scotland is Christmas Day. Even Waitrose is open from 08:00-20:00 this Sunday.

I find it sad when all shops are closed, like on Christmas Day. Not that I need to shop, so I’m not quite sure why.

I actually dreamt of going shopping last night. Stopped going at the start of Covid and still keeping clear.

It’s not just the shops that are shut tomorrow but also most attractions. We went away one Easter and there was nowhere to visit on the Sunday.

Well, I am car-booting on Easter Sunday, so will be plenty of selling and buying going on.

Well Sainsbury’s downstairs from us in the square is open tomorrow. Just checked. 10:30am till 4pm. Aldi is closed though.

It depends on their square footage. Larger stores are obliged to close.
I dont find it sad at all, BlueSky. It is good that the two major Christian festivals are still honoured in this way, and if you are not religious, I am glad that the staff get those days off.

I agree Cabbie I remember when all big shops were closed on Sundays, every week, and little corner shops thrived.
I expect all the shops integral to petrol stations will be open tomorrow.

The “big” supermarkets say they are closed on Easter Sunday, except in Scotland E.g.

Good Friday – normal hours
Saturday – normal hours
Easter Sunday – the vast majority of their supermarkets across England, Wales and Northern Ireland will be closed. Stores in Scotland will remain open.
Easter Monday – normal hours
Sainsbury's Local stores will be open from 7am to 11pm.

The pressure on workers in retail to work weekend shifts is already a body blow to the “family weekend”
Let them have Christmas Day and Easter at least!
(It’s not as if anybody is going to starve because the supermarkets are shut for one day is it? )

As a child I lived close to a row of small shops/businesses. Only the greengrocer and the newsagent opened on Sunday morning but both closed at 12 noon for the rest of the day. Neither opened up on Christmas Day nor on Easter Sunday.

Im with Maw, can they not close the shops for Easter Sunday and Monday and let folk have time with their family or friends.

I think life is much too busy nowadays. One quiet family day each week would be lovely.

They can't all close, can they,because there are newspapers published on Easter Sunday unlike Christmas Day. So I guess some shops have to open. Our Tesco Express and a smallish Co Op are both open.

Actually no, it’s certainly not a mini one Maw.
But I was wrong!
I’d looked it up on the internet on Saturday. It said ‘open tomorrow’ and gave those stated hours.
However when I went down in the lift at 1pm the store obviously hadn’t been open at all.
So apologies everyone. My mistake but innocently made.

Actually it was nice to see the square’s shops pretty much closed.

Only Costa coffee was open. People were sitting outside in the sunshine enjoying their drinks.
