Love post from # Grandmabatty:- Wilhelmina ! I hope that name makes a comeback. My granddaughter is called Lilliana Jean (Italian version of Lillian I believe). When I took her to the cemetery last year she was thrilled to read her great grandmothers name - Jean Lillian !

Robert and Lillian were my paternal grandparents, and my maternal ones were William and Elizabeth. However, it’s a family tradition for many on my mother’s side of the family to use their second names, so the latter were known as Andrew and Ann.

William is still very popular and Lillian seems to be coming creeping back too.

Lily has been hugely popular in recent years.

I’m quite surprised that there are people who don’t know the names of their grandparents and wonder if you’re not curious about them?

I initially became interested in family history because of difficulties within my own childhood; I wanted to discover more about the families my own parents had come from. I only met my paternal grandparents a few times and didn’t know their names until after they’d died.

Anne and John
Florence and Harold
I have happy memories of 3 of them. Harold died before I was born.

My paternal birth grandparents died when my dad was four so I never knew them but their names were Catherine and William. His foster parents were called Elizabeth and James. My maternal grandparents were Alexander and Wilhelmina.

Jane, Harry, Charles and Elspeth (Elsie). The Jane came from way back when and we still use it, mostly as a middle name.

No idea. We never met them and our parents never told us their names.

Rose Anne and Gilbert

Emily has certainly come back into fashion. Not the others.

Someone remarked yesterday that the names currently in vogue are those associated with our grandparents era.

My grandparents were Hilary and Giles and Doris and Bernard. It's a long time since I've heard any of those names being used.

What we're your grandparents called?
