My dear OH bought a box of expensive Belgian chocolates from the upmarket and very pricey supermarket beginning with W = and we don't mean Woolworths! There were only six chocs in the upper layer and six in the lower, each one surrounded by a thick wadding of plastic and cardboard packaging. The box was the normal size. But what a waste = of money and of excess materials harmful to the environment.

paddyanne I am sure there is something you enjoy, that people could give you.

For me cheese rather than chocolates.

Cant have flowers in the house Monica I and my OH have bad allergies .I got flowers for my birthday and they were lovely all 3 bouquets BUT they had to live in a spare room until they died...sods law they took weeks .I had to keep the door shut so the cats wouldn't go near the absolutely stunning lilies .Cheese dropped off my list a few years ago when a homeopath told me dairy prodece was one of the worst things for my allergies ,so no cheese,no yoghourt ,luckily no bad catarrh because they went

If you send them an email you not happy etc you probably received a voucher or more chocolates from them. I did I received an bar of chocolate with no bubbles in it bet you can’t guess which one lol. Anyway I took photos and sent them an email and I received a box of different things from that brand. About £25 worth. Also I received some hotel choc for my birthday and the biscuits I needed a hammer to break them my son and daughter inlaw through it was me until they tried them give us a laugh getting a work out for our teeth lol so I complained about them they sent me the value of the biscuits and I’ve not bought the biscuits since. My son also got a voucher as he bought them But they keep sending me new ones to try.

Channel 4 did a programme on Posh Food for Less. They zoomed in on chocolate and had two tasters. The tasters blind tested Lindt, Aldi, Green and Blacks and Hotel Chocolat. They also had a chocolatier to provide information. Anyway, the couple put Green and Black first, Aldi second, Lindt third and Hotel Chocolat last. The expert suggested that Aldi was good chocolate with a great taste.

Personally I usually buy Aldi and really love it. It has no palm oil either.

Have you tried the Lindor chocolates? In our local Sainsbury's you can select the flavours you prefer and put them in a box of your choice, three sizes to choose from depending on how many of the chocs you buy. Not much wastage and you can re-use the box as you wish.

I tried it once and would do so again if only they weren't so addictive. I'd be the size of a house if I indulged too often.

…..or send the manufacturers a little message requesting they stop being so mean with the choccies or at least ditch the unnecessary packaging and perhaps reduce the price.

Have now done just that. Will be interesting to see if they reply.

Ferrero Rocher are my favourite of all time.
I had some Hotel Chocolat for Easter, but didnt enjoy it as much.

I have looked at website Blossoming.
Similar price to Butlers which I like.
The advantage is a much bigger selection and you can choose your own. They look delicious.
I love Lidls chocolate. Can only eat very small amount (sugar).

M0nica Mon 02-May-22 07:22:34

paddyann54 probably because so many people do not like those flavours

Personally, I would prefer it if no one ever gave me a box of chocolates ever again - and it is a a very long time since they did - far too sweet and claggy. I would prefer a bunch of flowers or a box of mixed cheeses and have been given both.

Social media is the place for a review. It’s public.

? Once every six months Blossoming you are a martyr to the cause.

timetogo2016 Sun 01-May-22 12:36:01

Aldi`s chocolate is the best as is Lidle`s.
Great taste good price.

PetitFromage Sun 01-May-22 12:32:09

Was it W own brand?

I have found that they generally promote their eco credentials, to the extent where they won't even deliver products in plastic bags any longer, unlike Ocado, who still use the bags but take returns for recycling. Or maybe W save time and money by shovelling the shopping directly into crates grin

Hellogirl1 Sun 01-May-22 12:16:15

Why won`t Black Magic go back to their original flavours, instead of the few they do now? I really do miss Toffee and mallow and Liquid cherry.
Tesco`s own brand Gold blend coffee is great value compared to well known brands, and tastes good.

paddyann54 Sun 01-May-22 11:59:50

Boxed chocolates are always a disappointment ,they seem to have flavours I've never heard of and are too sweet ...why does no one do a really good coffee cream or coffee and walnut anymore ?

Purplepixie Sun 01-May-22 11:53:40

My favourite chocolate is from Aldi. No expensive package and really lovely flavoured chocolate.

Granmarderby10 Sun 01-May-22 11:51:32

Co-op can be prohibitively expensive. Round here it is an (in)convenience store, long queues with one till in operation out of 5 while the other staff faff about in the back oblivious.
They do have bargains sometimes but frequently run out of the most basic items, which are vastly overpriced.
However I know they are greatly appreciated in remote villages and towns where there is literally no other choice locally.

FarNorth Sun 01-May-22 11:47:54

I was very happy to see organic bananas no longer bagged in plastic, at the Co-op.

M0nica Sun 01-May-22 11:34:59

CrazyH Aldi are no better. Someone gave me what looked like a large box of quality shortbread from Aldi, when I opened it, the biscuits were placed in an indented preformed plastic tray and there were only 12 biscuits in it. More visible tray than visible biscuits.

And they tasted horrible, even the birds wouldn't eat them.

On Waitrose, I agree with BlueSky. They are my nearest convenient supermarket and their prices are certainly cheaper than my local Co-op.

Blossoming Sun 01-May-22 11:34:28

I only buy chocolate from Kennedy’s Chocolate Factory now. I very rarely eat chocolate and theirs is sublime. It’s expensive but worth it and it is an occasional treat (about once every 6 months,

I agree Lidl sell excellent chocolates, never tried Aldi.

Another Guerlain lover here.

BlueSky Sun 01-May-22 11:06:02

I wouldn’t call Waitrose upmarket and very expensive. A lot of own items compare very favourably with others not so upmarket. They might have been but not nowadays. Anyway yes boxes of chocolates are not very good value for money, much better a large bar of chocolate! Still I would contact them about the packaging.
Eazybee Guerlain my favourite!

Barmeyoldbat Sun 01-May-22 10:46:54

It was the thought that côounotis

Allsorts Sun 01-May-22 09:49:16

I prefer a bar of fruit and nut.

Jaxjacky Sun 01-May-22 09:43:12

I’d contact Waitrose directly, emphasising their alleged green credentials, I don’t mean their branding colour!

MissAdventure Sun 01-May-22 09:20:35

Oh yes!
Their chocolate is the best.
