Hello!smile

I really fancy a natter; but, unfortunately I find myself totally bereft of humorous or interesting Thread Starters.

I’ve gone blank.
No creativity whatsoever.
Not an ounce of wit.
Not a smidgen of originality.

Talk to me - please! smile

(I’m going to make a cup of tea, and when I return I hope that someone is here brew)

(Autocorrect turned smidgen into ^smug Ron^; poor old Ron, and his wife)

When my Ocado order arrived last night, I found that had mistakenly ordered 2 dozen eggs (very lovely Burford ones thankfully), Quorn buffalo vegan chicken wings and a special 40th anniversary edition of Dear Zoo. Also included, but not on the order receipt was a little yellow rubber duck!
My OH thinks I might have been drinking when I ordered, but I last had a drink on Christmas Day, so really have no idea what happened. I very rarely order from Ocado I really must check it thoroughly next time.

Yes, I’ve read lots of her books.
But I’m ashamed to say that I can’t remember her name.
She is an amazing author

Pull ‘him’ away

crazyH Sun 01-May-22 17:15:39

Now, this is a true story. Years ago, I had an old mini metro. I was just about to drive off , from my house, when my handsome Collie stood in front of my car, barking, refusing to move ….my husband (now Ex) managed to pull her away so that I could drive off and so I did. About a mile down the road, I noticed smoke coming through the bonnet. I stopped, turned off the engine and walked back home. Husband called the AA and matter was dealt with. ( can’t remember, but it was a serious fault with the engine). Heaven knows what would have happened if I had continued to drive. My collie was trying to warn me. Man’s best friend. In this case, woman’s …

We've had a female blackbird trying to build very untidy nests in inappropriate places but not under the car bonnet - at least as far as we know.

MayBee70 Sun 01-May-22 17:03:28

When my car had it’s last MOT they told me they had replaced a filter because something had been living in the engine.

FarNorth Sun 01-May-22 17:02:46

I've heard of an engine fire being caused by a bird's nest!

Auntieflo Sun 01-May-22 17:02:06

In our area, there will be no change to the refuse/ bin collection, according to the Council emails.

FarNorth Sun 01-May-22 17:01:15

On a couple of days recently, I saw a blackbird with a twig or bit of grass in its beak, hopping about near my car.
I looked under the car, nothing to be seen.
Then I looked under the bonnet - shock the beginnings of a nest right in the middle of the engine!

I pulled (and vacuumed) out as much as I could and hope it's true that a bird won't come back to a 'nest site' if there has been human interference.

Cats really are awful creatures. It’s a good thing we love them anyway. grin

Dodos were pigeons?? Every day’s a school day on GN! I quite like pigeons. blush

Tomorrow, half of the schools in this area are closed and half of them are open. Baffling!

My zero waste policy means that I often put food out for the birds. Of course, the pigeons eat most of it and then poo it out. I did feel sorry for one that the fox got, though.

A sparrow hawk caught one once, we watched in horrified fascination

Step away from the tractors, folks! grin My son-in-law is a farmer. The news about tractors has been very concerning for us wink
SIL too but they are more concerned about their own idiot politicians down under, although SIL can get very excited about tractors [yawn]

^I listened to a programme about pigeons that questioned why people didn’t warm to them given they had been war heroes etc and all I could think was ‘poo’. Which wasn’t mentioned^….

I'll mention the, there is poo at over the drive, the car, the paths in the back garden
And WHY do they come and drink and bathe in the birdbath then turn round and poo in the water?

Esspee Sun 01-May-22 16:35:35

I've spent the afternoon planting up the stuff that I was growing on in the greenhouse and I'm absolutely knackered.
I have been saying I needed to cut down on heavy work for years now but somehow I end up with loads of seedlings to pot up and plants to harden off. Is gardening an addiction do you think?

Callistemon21 Sun 01-May-22 16:33:23

aggie

It’s pouring rain here , I’ve stuff to put in bin ! Where’s my raincoat ?

Oh !!! and ######
It's refuse collection tomorrow, just remembered.
Will they come on a BH?

Oh - everyone - Pinch, punch, first of the month, no returns ?

MayBee70 Sun 01-May-22 16:33:12

The Dodo was a very large pigeon. Given that I’m struggling to clean the pigeon poo off my car/windows/driveway etc sorry as I am that they’re extinct I’m glad I don’t you have them roosting near my house. I know they couldn’t fly but, knowing my luck they would probably have used ladders. I listened to a programme about pigeons that questioned why people didn’t warm to them given they had been war heroes etc and all I could think was ‘poo’. Which wasn’t mentioned….

I know!
I’ve been so tempted to Google ‘tractor porn’ blush

Have you read A Short History of Tractors in Ukrainian
by Marina Lewycka?

Funny but quite poignant just now.

I've got a red eye and it hurts. Conjunctivitis? Chemist is shut until Tuesday!
