Enamel hypoplasia in children.

I don’t know much about this OP but have a vague recollection that fluoride is the answer.
Have the parents been giving the child fluoride toothpaste and supervising 2 min brushing?

Yes, Esspee, they are very conscientious about sugar avoidance and regular supervised tooth cleaning with prescribed toothpaste from dentist. Just hope that the secondary teeth won't have the same problem and wondered if anyone had had any experience of this. Twin sister is fine. I think the problem develops in the womb, so with a bit of luck the second teeth should be OK as develop later, but would like reassurance if possible.

My DD has enamel hypoplasia. Her milk teeth were fine, but her permanent teeth are affected. She has mottled, stained looking teeth, and uses sensodyne pronamel toothpaste.
Fortunately she knows all about the condition, and refused cosmetic dentistry offered to her by a new dentist (who really ought to have known about it). Had she gone ahead, it would have ruined her teeth.

This dentist has had several complaints made against him, and is undertaking retraining on the orders of the practice owner.

Sorry to say that all the fluoride toothpaste in the world hasn't helped DD's teeth. She goes for regular check ups and has a careful cleaning regime. The mottling doesn't bother her much now that she is older and happily married. None of her children have inherited the problem.

Too much fluoride can actually CAUSE this by the way.

On a positive note, I had one tooth erupt with no enamel when I was tiny but my second teeth are all perfectly normal. I don't have very strong enamel but I've had good dental care and still have all my teeth bar one which is an implant. Don't despair. A good dentist will help them keep on top of things.

I have never heard of this condition. So cannot comment.

My 7 year old GD hayd this probem . Baby teeth ok but bottom two front adult teeth each have a yellow spot on. My DD is very diligent with teeth cleaning routine. She was born 6 weeks early and dentist says that is very likely the cause. Fingers crossed her remaining adult teeth will not be the same.
