Can shops still insist on customers wearing face masks?

Have an appointment with Specsavers tomorrow. They have phoned to remind me of that appointment and informed me that I MUST wear a face mask when attending.

Thought this was now down to individuals to decide whether or not to continue using these, did not know that shops could insist on it.

Blondiescot does your virologist friend keep her mask in her pocket? Or is it fact a medical grade one?

Germanshepherdsmum Fri 06-May-22 08:48:18

I too would like to see evidence of hundreds of thousands wearing masks and still getting covid.
I also echo the comment that if you have medical exemption from mask wearing why not say so instead of posting insults to those who are vulnerable?

You are all indeed deluded if you think masks are effective. Ask all the hundreds of thousands who wore a mask religiously and still caught covid.

Asking again…. Is my oncologist wrong ? Should I be locked away because I have cancer and Covid could kill me ! Just so that you don’t have to wear a mask ?

Exactly, Lucca! Some people care only about themselves...

I have friends who work in the field of medical research - one is a virologist - perhaps I should tell them that they should ditch their masks because they're ineffective?

PS, do you have a definitive source for your claim, that hundreds of thousands wore masks and still caught Covid?

Have you actually read my post about masks being PART of a
COMBINEDstrategy?

If you are genuinely medically exempt, or have a phobia about masks, why not just say so, instead of posting all these excuses and insults?
Have you even considered the impact of your posts and feelings of some of the most vulnerable posters on GN? I don't think so.
Like Biscuitmuncher, you have offered no scientific evidence for your spurious claims.
I will continue to defer to the experts, as you are not convincing me at all.

Lucca how many said that masks offered very little protection even Chris Witty said so. Most people dont wear them properly or they are the same one crumpled up in their pocket. For me they make me panic, sweat and my heart race. And all for something that doesn't actually achieve what its supposed to.

You seem to only extrapolate what you want to hear from the information
available. You then, to reassure u ourself that you're right, spread this inaccurate and damaging information around the Internet. You should be ashamed of yourself. Just admit you don't like wearing a mask without trying to justify it in such a dangerous way.

Pepper59 Fri 06-May-22 08:08:15

I've had Covid, all I will contribute is,if what I had was the mild version I would not want the severe. I'm still not properly well months later.

mistymitts Fri 06-May-22 03:51:52

I think that they are still able to be enforced in all medical settings. I don’t see a problem and would feel safer if they were worn any way in such a close encounter as an eye exam. Cannot understand why some folk object.
Covid, even Omicron can still be bad and can still lead to Long Covid which can last for months.

Marydoll Fri 06-May-22 01:18:38

In order to keep myself alive in the last two years, I have read, researched numerous articles on Covid, including participating in Zoe Webinars.
I also have two files full of correspondence from NHS Scotland, with scientific evidence and advice on how to stay safe. All of which I have posted about on multiple threads on GN, some of which you have also posted on with your denials.
Therefore, as you were on some of those threads, you should be aware of that.
As usual, you never back up your inaccurate and somewhat offensive claims and try to deflect from your obvious lack of knowledge about Covid.

I think I prefer to trust the scientists and my doctors, rather than a wee granny/ grandad bashing away on a keyboard, trying to wind vulnerable people up.
I stand by my initial observation, that you are playing games. Well you will be playing on your own, as most posters have stated how unpleasant your posts are.
Your uninformed, ill informed and false claims are nothing but laughable. I'm not angry, like some posters, but utterly disgusted at what you puport to believe.

Biscuitmuncher Fri 06-May-22 00:55:17

Marydoll what proof have you shown me?

Biscuitmuncher Fri 06-May-22 00:54:17

Lucca I did, but you're only interested in your point of view, which is understandable

Masks are part of a comprehensive strategy to prevent the spread of Covid. One strategy alone won't completely protect us, but various combined strategies, including mask wearing, vaccination and rigorous hand sanitising, will improve my chance of not dying from Covid.
That is coming from WHO. Are you better informed, than that organisation?
You never seem to provide any scientific research or data to support your unfounded claims.

Perhaps if you provided us with some proof, your posts wouldn't be so readily dismissed. By the way, I don't mean hearsay or information garnered from social media.

Is this all a game to you, trying to upset, some very vulnerable posters on here, whose life is extremely problematic and distressing at the moment.

It is cowardly, because they hide behind their username.

No, you're right, Marydoll.
It was never like it is now.
We used to think it was because of influx of Mumsnetters but a poster has just said that Mumsnet is not as nasty as Gransnet!!

Marydoll Thu 05-May-22 23:10:08

Lucca, GN has changed from when I first started posting. Of course there were spats, but very rarely did they become nasty. Robust, yes, but not nasty! I found a lot of kindness and compassion in those days.
Perhaps, I just have my rose tinted specs on. wink

Lucca Thu 05-May-22 22:56:07

Marydoll sadly you are right. Never thought to see such odious attitudes on GN.

Marydoll Thu 05-May-22 22:53:40

Lucca you wasting your time. There is no defence for their behaviour and certainly no remorse.
I get the feeling they thrive on winding posters up, especially those of us, who are extremely vulnerable.

NittWitt funnily enough I don't think that the world revolves around me

Any reply to my question ?

I have been wondering how you can wear a facemask when getting hair done..washing ,cutting or styling etc. However the same rule exists in NZ but I no longer have any hair to need a hairdresser

Can be done you tend to end up with a mask where the side strings are soggy and covered in hair dye
Much easier now mask rules have long gone in hairdressers
