How often and at what time of day?

Sorry to disappoint. Not a racy topic at all.

I'm talking about baths or showers.

Daily? Bi-daily? Weekly? On your birthday?
Morning? After work? Before bed?

My preference is a shower every morning before work (ah, the good old days). BUT I'm being good and not using as much energy/water, so now it's every 2 or 3 days and an old fashioned wash in between.

Whether it is interesting or not is up for debate but how is it intrusive ? Nobody need answer if they don’t want.

Exactly. I knew a certain poster would be on here complaining and whining. Why she doesn't just ignore threads that aren't to her task, instead of trying to censor everyone is beyond me.

Have anybody in mind?

Taste not task. This bloody phone,!

Shower every morning, even when I b was ill with covid.

Used to wash my hair every day but since I acquired a hair topper that has been much reduced.

I have a 2 minute shower most days, in the morning. In summer, I often have a short, cool one before going to bed wet.
Wash my hair twice a week, unless particularly sweaty or greasy.
I change my underwear daily, but outerwear every other day, unless dirty or sweaty.

You go to bed wet?

Shower and hair-wash every morning; don't feel clean otherwise.

I agree with Maw and Blossoming this topic is anything but interesting. If you want to get down & dirty about personal hygiene habits, please pop off to Mumsnet. I promise you, there are people on there who can identify folks who haven't bathed within the last 12 hours at 100 paces.

As I said Riverwalk they seem intrusive to me. I don’t expect everyone to agree.

When I saw those Ukrainians coming out of their underground shelters, I thought : they will be glad of a shower or a hot bath.
I think we are altogether too precious about a daily shower. In many counties it is an unthinkable luxury.

To answer the question, I avoid showers. Reminds me of school days. I prefer a bath, before I go to bed. It relaxes me. In a hotel with just a shower, I cant see what I am doing, so I keep my glasses on to see how it works, then they get steamed up. It takes me longer to get dry than to bathe. My bath is tiny, so it takes no more water than a shower.
I wash my hair less often than I did when I was working. It used to be every day, now it is twice a week.

I think it’s an interesting question as we should all be consciously looking at our water usage. Many of us waste water and money. I have also read a great deal about daily baths/showers not being good for us…skin, heat oils etc.
I’m showering every 2/3 days but have a thorough wash with a sinkful of water on the off days. I put the plug in the bath and save the water which I decant into large empty milk bottles for watering garden pots.
Have been doing this for several years and have saved a fortune on my metered water bills. My family would definitely tell me if there was any kind of downside to this?

timetogo2016 Sat 07-May-22 16:05:32

Same here Shinamae.
I was advised by a consultant years ago to never take a shower every day as it`s not good for the skin.
Ironically so was my Dh.

I’m with you on that Blossoming and in response to Gagajo
Because people's habits are interesting
No they are not

Because the site is a bit dull at the moment
And this doesn’t do anything to enliven it. .

Why do you ask Gagajo?

I think it’s a strange question. I’m not commenting just to criticise your thread, but we’ve also had the ‘changing beds’ question again recently and am genuinely interested in knowing the motivation to ask what are, to me, intrusive questions. Yes, I know I don’t have to answer smile

I often start threads on what you had for breakfast, lunch, etc., and don't think they're intrusive - members can choose to respond or not!

It's interesting to read what people eat and gives one ideas to try something new.

As to a bathing/showering thread - it's shown that some people swim 4 times a week and someone plunges into the North Sea every morning!

Is it any less interesting than local elections, health, cakes, family dramas?

GagaJo Sat 07-May-22 14:40:26

Oh! Forgot.

The morning ? / evening thing is interesting too.

I prefer to be clean and fresh before leaving the house for work therefore morning shower. But others prefer evening. Why?

GagaJo Sat 07-May-22 14:38:14

Answering a few questions at once.

Because people's habits are interesting.

Because the site is a bit dull at the moment.

Out of genuine interest to see how many people had changed their habits to try to save energy (and conserve water).

Like I said, I love a morning shower and enjoy a relaxing evening bath. But it's an active choice to use less (energy/water).

Chewbacca

About 15 years ago, I decided to forsake all baths, showers, hair washing, teeth brushing, strip washes, bed linen changing and underwear changing and instead let nature take its course. It took about 7 years for my natural bodily enzymes to kick in and, I'll admit that I hummed a bit in the interim, but now I don't smell at all.

Hmm it doesn’t seem long since the last thread about baths and showers! I remember being a bit taken aback at how many people had how few baths or showers. ?

Juggernaut Sat 07-May-22 13:34:31

Shower and hair wash every morning, as I have since I was about 11 years old, so fifty four years at least!
I've got it down to a fine art after all that practice, when we had an electric shower I took about four minutes, now that we have an all singing all dancing power shower, I'm in and out in just over two and a half minutes!
I always shower with the window open quite wide too, (yes, even in the middle of winter), it uses a lot less power than having the extractor on, and also stops us 'hanging around' in the bathroom!

BlueBelle Sat 07-May-22 13:33:19

Every day at 7am shower, body, and hair and teeth all-in -one
On the days I go for a North Sea dip I have another when I get home to warm up but not always because today I went for an early morning swim so waited until I got home
I count not function without having had a morning shower each day

I shower every morning, using a timer and restricted-flow shower head provided by Thames Water to ensure I don't use too much . I never do, even when I'm doing the full hair wash and condition, which is every other day.

I couldn't bear not showering every day.
