Synonyms for ‘Fat’ that aren’t Cringeworthy…?

A co-worker describes herself as cushy, which I think is nice.

A friend of mine was a bit disconcerted when giving her grandson a first cuddle after lockdown. "Grandma, you've gone all squishy."

My mother would use the term broad in the beam.

Podgy.
Chubby.

My obese DM described herself as "magnificent". She had thighs like ponga stumps. "Junoesque" is good, "carrying extra avoirdupois" is kinda neutral. I'll "plump" for "bonny". Maupassant's heroine Boule de Suif (suet ball) is seen as extraordinarily sexy...those were the days, eh.

I was called pleasantly plump once !

I heard someone once describe themselves as voluptuous and once overheard a shop assistant describe me as “that tubby lady over there”

Abbondante (abundant, plentiful) is used here in Italy, in an approving way. Bit like voluptuous.

Seriously, I wanted to buy a summer hat after an operation for skin cancer on my face and tried the high street shops. I was told they come in one size only.
How ridiculous is that!
Shoes don't come in one size only.
I found a hat eventually in an outdoor shop which came in various sizes.

And to be honest, I think that I look great too, if a little ‘matronly’

Do you need a label ? Why not just say I have chosen these dresses as they flatter my shape. Or I feel these dresses work well for my size or figure.
Surely the thread is about the dresses and that is what readers should be interested in and focusing on not how big or small you might be.

Interestingly (or not!) I have some tops which are labelled Medium for USA and UK but are Large in France!

The last time I bought a dress, I was desperate to find something to were to a wedding.

When the assistant in Laura Ashley asked me what size I was I said "as big as you've got - gigantic - enormous" which she seemed to think was quite funny but they only go up to a size 18, which by some miracle I managed to fit into.

I saw a great bookmark once-it had a teddy bear on it, and it said "I'm not far, I'm fluffy".

You can just say I've been over blessed! That's what I say when describing my bra size! lol

Why would I want to give acceptability to being obese, lardy, porky, chubby-chops, overweight, massive etc?
Look what doing so has created. Acceptance and Encouragement of being obese has created a whole generation of Bessie Bunters before they even get out of their teens.
