Lost Perfumes

I used to love the citrus scent of Aqua Manda, many years ago. I found some online but it was so disappointing. It was nothing like the original.

I'm late reading this thread but I wondered how long it would be before someone mentioned Aqua Manda!! It was first "page"!!!

I miss Givenchy111 and Ma Griffe by Carven.
Managed to find M Griffe on line and much to my surprise it took me back to when I was 17yrs old ?
Cinema by YSL and Mitsouko are my favourites now, but I do like to try different ones now and again eg L’air de temps
I expect these will disappear over time

Just prior to my first pregnancy I had treated myself to some Coty L’aimant cream skin perfume but couldn’t bear it when nausea etc set in - my Mother, who never used perfume found she liked it and from then on that was always the perfume for her. It came with wand type applicator. Went right off Tabu too!

My granny (born 1908, died 1977) wore a perfume that my mum recently wanted to acquire.

They’re in Sidmouth, Devon. It was very expensive but for my mum, it brought memories blooming back. Give them a ring!

I loved Kiki by Faberge and was entranced by the talcum powder which was in a round lemon coloured container and lasted ages. A boyfriend once bought me the whole range and I thought I had died and gone to heaven. For evenings I loved Chloe Narcisse.

Loved Intimate, Cachet, Rive Gauche, Blue Grass - all bought during my teenage years. In recent years I really like Wrappings by Clinique, which can only be bought in Harrods; couldn't even get it in New York (I was hoping I could get it there, Clinique being an American company).

The Guerlain website lists a few perfumes which they call Les Legendaires. These include Mitsouko, Jicky and Samsara. These are still available.

I used to wear Mitsouko a lot, having discovered that it was a favourite of Diaghelev. I went off it for a while when I discovered that it was Mrs T's favourite.

I occasionally had Joy by Jean Patou, reputedly the most expensive perfume in the world. It's still available for just under £1000 per bottle!

I have the type of skin which reacts in a peculiar way with many perfumes. Anything with musk in it gives off a vile stink when applied to my skin. There were however two perfumes which, when I used them, were very attractive on me, yet smelt different on other people.
The very best was Emeraude by Coty. Discontinued in the 1970’s. It’s still available, but now made with cheap ingredients, only in America. It’s nothing like the original though.
The other perfume which smells great on my now elderly skin, different to what it smells like on the men it’s been made for, for years, is good old Brut.

As a child, my friend and I would play dress up with my friend's mother's perfumes.
One of the ones I liked was by Avon; don't recall the name but it smelled of Carnations, it would be long gone now.

We also used to splash on the Evening in Paris with it's lovely dark blue glass bottle.
It smelled faintly of oranges and I'm sure my friend's mother was delighted with us.

As a teen I liked Prince Matchabelli's Wind Song, which Google says is still available as well as Cachet, also by Prince Matchabelli.

My mother often used to bring me duty-free L'Air du Temps many years ago.
I loved it, but rarely use perfume these days.

I don't think l'air du temps has been discontinued but it is increasingly difficult to find Any suggestions for a replacement gratefully received.

Hi Esspee; it's probably been suggested already but Amazon likely has the eau de toilette, also Boots has ( it looks like) 30ml L'Air du Temps, but again it's Eau de Toilette spray, 38.50.

When I was a teenager, I thought the height of sophistication was Tabu! I moved on to Ma Griffe and Je Reviens until I settled on Givenchy Trois. I wore that till it was discontinued and then was in a perfume wilderness. In the end, I adopted Chanel No. 5 and have stayed with it ever since.

And Aqua manda, I did once find it advertised and actually was going to the place where it was sold, glad I did because it was overpoweringly clove smelling, hardly smelled the citrus under that. I did find some soap though which did smell the same
Another cheap one that I wish I could find as a scent is the Spanish Maja, my parents used to bring the soap back from holiday and I love the spicy carnationny smell, again I did get some soaps
Someone mentioned Cabotine, wish I'd known you when I was bought several bottles instead of Cabochard, which I loved
Someone mentioned Jeanne de Provence perfumes - I've seen these at TK Mazz so it might be worth looking there

Apparently there are different versions of Eternity now one is pink) my daughter said it hasn’t changed ... Moments is one variety

Paloma Picasso is still available; loved by my wonderful Mum ⭐️. I still have two half bottles of it now, sadly she died last year.
Rive gauche definitely still available
I miss Essence Rare by Houbigant, wore it on my wedding day

Newbie here, specifically to join this thread !

When I was 14 I loved Aqua Manda but at 17 I found Azuree by Estée Lauder and have used it ever since (50+ years).

At some point it was only available in the US, but a relative in cabin crew kept me fully stocked.

Azuree then came back to the UK but it is slightly different but better than nothing .

My mum loved Oscar de la Renta she was the first person to tell me about layering your perfume with your body lotion and I have always kept up that practice the smell lingers all day. Its still available now at Duty Free & Online it just doesn't smell the same now or maybe my memory of it has changed.
Last week my friend when staying with me used Timeless by Avon I had not seen it for years it took me back to my 20s when I wore it all the time its still available according to my friend so I may treat myself from the Ding Dong Avon Lady.

Clinique Happy just came to mind and was not over the top costly. Might even still be around. Aviance? This was madly advertised but doesn’t seem to be around. Out of pure sentiment I still have some spray Kiku in a bottle as it reminds me of my first baby in 70s - must be off now! He 47 tomorrow hahaha .

When I was on a day trip to France, back in 2003, I went into a perfume shop to buy my Tocade, and was given some free sample phials of perfume. One was L`Histoire d`Eau, by Houbigant, and I loved it, but could I buy it here, NO!

Redrobin, Chloe Narcisse was the perfume choice of a good friend of mine. It's so distinctive that my daughters all talk of a situation they have had in which a whiff of this on someone in a group caused them to think oh, AuntieJ is here. I understand that smell is something that evokes memories best.

No matter how many perfumes I buy myself or am given for pressies I always go back to Aromatics by Clinique.....Love it...A close second would be ....Paloma Picaso

My teen go to was Wild Musk Oil by Coty but that eventually changed it's smell when reformulated. A boyfriend back then said when he opened his wardrobe that was all he could smell!

I really miss Gucci Envy. If only I'd known it was to be discontinued I'd have stocked up to the hilt.

This took me back to a time when i ran out of a certain perfume i liked ( its discontinued now ) called Cinema and I THOUGHT it was pronounced Cineeeema. So off I toddles to Boots and smiled at the assistant stood behind the counter, did she have "Cineeema?"

She looked quizzical at me with a hint of I'd lost the plot!

After me repeating the word "Cineeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeema." Indicating that it is indeed her who has lost the plot ( hahaha ) it all turns out there is no such name ( ooooops ) it is plain, old CINEMA, you know Movies, picture house, flicks film house !!!!!! How common I thought, anyway after ALLLLLLL that, they didn't have any as it was discontinued..
