Enough with the jubilee already.

The celebrations haven’t started yet and I’m already fed up with them.
I bought a loaf of bread yesterday and it had a silver crown on it and a jubilee message. When I think of the cost of redesign and printing a new message, it must impact on the price I’m paying.
Then I’ve just seen the itinerary for next week and I’m bemused by the timetable.
There’s a glorious fly past again with 40 planes and helicopters etc. I always remember my husband laughing at previous fly pasts as the UK has such a paucity of planes to do it that some of them were training planes and clapped out aircraft to bulk up the numbers.
I also didn’t realise the bank holidays were Thursday and Friday.
Oh well soon be over and we can have an in depth examination of Meghan and Harry and what they did/didn’t do, who wore what and how much did it cost etc. Ammunition for news articles for months and posts on gransnet.
Bring it on.

*BROWN 1964* LET ME GUESS ..you're a unionist ,That Nicoliar gave it away,
Nicola Sturgeon is the ELECTED leader of the party that has the majority vote in Scotland Like it or not thats what she is '
Lizzie came to the crown through system that is out of date and well overdue for abolishing .
I'm afraid that Monarchy belongs in the middle ages and a large proportion of Scotland believes that too.According to polls .

Why do you call the Queeen Lizzie Paddyann54, but then have a go at somebody else for calling Nicola Sturgeon*Nicoliar*? Surely both are equally disrespectful as they aren’t their names?

I take exception to the suggestion that anyone who doesn’t want to join in community celebrations moan about anyone who has served their country. That is offensive in the extreme.

volver Mon 30-May-22 14:41:30

It's a blooming YouGov poll. ??‍♀️

I am amazed with the amount of people on here who are moaning about the Jubilee, i guess you also moan about anyone who has served their country !!!, what will you all moan about next, what alot of miserable people here,

Best check the numbers. My post, 20:07. There's more of us than there are of you.

Keep waving your wee flag though, if it makes you happy. And keep implying that we're traitors too if you like. That'll end well.

That signifies zilch, though. It's only a thread on a social media site with few actual contributors.

Others who are joining in Jubilee celebrations may be too busy organising, helping or making trifles to bother with threads like this.

Germanshepherdsmum Mon 30-May-22 14:36:06

Nowt wrong with that is there?

Daisend1 Mon 30-May-22 14:33:33

As if we all were not aware (eye roll) what is in store for us this next few days Weather permitting I will be in my garden pulling up weeds or just relaxing. My tv will be 'recording' so no doubt can 'catch up' when/ whenever.

Why are you getting so upset about the wording that some people use Aveline, but not upset about posters calling others unpatriotic, miserable, grumbly and mean?

Double standards?

volver Mon 30-May-22 14:30:37

Who said it? Me. I said it.

Oh, OK. Not only are we miserable and unpatriotic, we hate our neighbours too.

Here comes the "hate" word again.
WHO said that? Haters?

Glorianny Mon 30-May-22 14:21:57

Food Banks multiply, fuel costs spiral out of control, the homeless increase, the NHS struggles.
And we decide to celebrate the long life of one overprivileged woman.

Funny isn't it 2000 years after the Romans and people still fall for the same things. Bread and circuses folks!!! (Only in this case they're even charging you more for the bread!!!)

This ^

My house is covered in Union Jack bunting. I am making afternoon tea for all my elderly neighbours and dropping them off in the morning.
I’m a massive fan of the Queen and I get so bored of all the bashing that goes on.
This is not just about the Jubilee, it’s about communities coming together and passing conversation when you normally walk by each other without a word.

Who says that those of us who don’t enjoy big get togethers are not enjoying ourselves in our own way? It doesn’t mean we are all unpatriotic either.

At last a voice of reason. I’ve said upthread that not being a jubilee fan doesnt make me unpatriotic

I am thrilled that the Queen has survived to mark this incredible anniversary but the outrageous level of spending for people who’ll never meet her to have a party, it’s utter madness.
But why? All the goods which are manufactured, however frivolous, and the sale of those goods, are helping to keep people in jobs, including supermarket workers!

I think Daisydaisydaisy should go into production quickly. I'd put in an order.

More importantly, we haven’t seen youngest DD and SiL for three years and they are arriving here from Australia on Thursday for six weeks! Huge cause for thé only celebration we will be interested in.??

Kalu how lovely

I hope you all have a wonderful time and they get a break from the after-effects of the devastating floods.

I didn’t find what Zonne said offensive. I’m her shoes I would probably have got myself banned.

Zonne Mon 30-May-22 14:05:45

Aveline

And have a lovely day yourself Zonne. I'm sure we're all sorry about your DH but no need to be so offensive.

I’m sorry if you’re offended by that.

Now there are at least two of us offended by comments on this thread.

GrannyCarrots Mon 30-May-22 13:57:52

I suppose it depends on whether or not you support a royal family. Personally, I don't. And I'd rather see such vast amounts of money going to help the most vulnerable in our society. There's a certain obscenity about it all when foodbanks, homelessness, people struggling is all on the rise. And I'm not sure what the royals really do for the country. How has the queen served us? I'm not being a moaning Minnie, I just care about those who are suffering and won't benefit in any way from this 'celebration'.

volver Mon 30-May-22 13:53:07

Early on this thread somebody accused those who don't want to celebrate the Jubilee of moaning about people who serve their country. That's supremely offensive, especially to those who have or had friends and family in the forces. I think Zonne was quite restrained.

Instead of calling us all miserable, try to have some responsibility for what you say about other people and how it affects them.

What Jubilee?
