Enough with the jubilee already.

The celebrations haven’t started yet and I’m already fed up with them.
I bought a loaf of bread yesterday and it had a silver crown on it and a jubilee message. When I think of the cost of redesign and printing a new message, it must impact on the price I’m paying.
Then I’ve just seen the itinerary for next week and I’m bemused by the timetable.
There’s a glorious fly past again with 40 planes and helicopters etc. I always remember my husband laughing at previous fly pasts as the UK has such a paucity of planes to do it that some of them were training planes and clapped out aircraft to bulk up the numbers.
I also didn’t realise the bank holidays were Thursday and Friday.
Oh well soon be over and we can have an in depth examination of Meghan and Harry and what they did/didn’t do, who wore what and how much did it cost etc. Ammunition for news articles for months and posts on gransnet.
Bring it on.

Who says that those of us who don’t enjoy big get togethers are not enjoying ourselves in our own way? It doesn’t mean we are all unpatriotic either.

Nagmad2016 Mon 30-May-22 13:47:05

Bah! Humbug, when did we lose our sense of patriotism and enthusiasm for celebrating? Lighten up and enjoy something for a change. At least Boris is getting a break.....

BROWN 1964 LET ME GUESS ..you're a unionist ,That Nicoliar gave it away,
Nicola Sturgeon is the ELECTED leader of the party that has the majority vote in Scotland Like it or not thats what she is '
Lizzie came to the crown through system that is out of date and well overdue for abolishing .
I'm afraid that Monarchy belongs in the middle ages and a large proportion of Scotland believes that too.According to polls .

furzeacre579 Mon 30-May-22 13:45:11

what a miserable lot on here

Aveline Mon 30-May-22 13:44:50

And have a lovely day yourself Zonne. I'm sure we're all sorry about your DH but no need to be so offensive.

Zonne Mon 30-May-22 13:38:56

Gawd. I love a good celebration, and will be celebrating a shedload of things this weekend with some lovely people. It's just that what I choose to attend parties for is not the fact that one privileged woman has stayed in her very safe job for seventy years.

And speaking as the wife of someone who has a life-limiting illness as a result of their military career, those of you who have posted offensive nonsense about patriotism/service: frankly, just STFU.

furzeacre579 Mon 30-May-22 13:37:15

i'm with you notgran - i find in general - they mostly are a miserable lot on here

volver Mon 30-May-22 13:35:14

I don’t get your angst about it all tbh.

I know you don't. Can't help that.

Kandinsky Mon 30-May-22 13:33:44

I'm interested in how populations are manipulated by powerful unelected leaders

Eh?
We’re all having a day off & some trifle.

No one has to celebrate it or join in with anything, yet you talk like people are being forced into ‘being happy’ - relax woman.

How lovely! Enjoy.

Jodieb Mon 30-May-22 13:31:03

volver Mon 30-May-22 13:30:22

I bet you people are all the ones at parties going "Go on, have a drink, one won't harm you. Don't be a spoilsport."

Do you mean the 2012 poll was 56% as well volver? 60 years?
In that respect then the Royal Family has not lost popularity as many would like to believe.
And for the record I have never labelled anyone miserable or grumpy so why attribute it to my comment?

Yeah. See how much I care about what we call the jubilee.

volver for someone who isn’t interested in the jubilee you don’t half talk a lot about it.
Probably more than anyone on gransnet.

So?

I'm interested in how populations are manipulated by powerful unelected leaders.

Aren't you?

Germanshepherdsmum Mon 30-May-22 13:26:03

I’m not against the jubilee. I simply don’t like joining in enforced jollity, never have. That doesn’t make me miserable. Perfectly happy at home, and not glued to the telly either.

Brownowl564 Mon 30-May-22 13:25:56

Volver she hasn’t had a platinum jubilee

Aveline Mon 30-May-22 13:25:24

Another one here looking forward to the weekend.
Here's two pics I found. One is in Partick the other in North Berwick. Grans in action I wonder?

how many people all over the world watch our celebrations and think , how lucky we are to live in Great Britain.

Sorry, can't let that pass.

We've got Johnson as PM, the worst economic forecast in the G7, huge disparities between rich and poor and an unelected upper house and Head of State. I'm not actually convinced that the rest of the world are watching us dress up in red white and blue, and thinking how lucky we are in this country.

Larsonsmum Mon 30-May-22 13:22:06

Really looking forward to the entire weekend. Quite surprised at how many of you are critical/against the Platinum Jubilee. We will never ever see a Monarch celebrate 70 year reign again, and HM the Queen has taken her duty to this country 100% seriously since Day One. At 96 she deserves this celebration in my book.

volver Mon 30-May-22 13:19:18

I feel sorry for you miserable women

Don't worry dear, its mutual.

Interestingly that YouGov poll asking about plans was taken 12 days ago. I wonder if the figures have changed much more recently? I certainly sense more people being sucked into doing something now the children are on half term, the weather has picked up and the media are bashing it out for all they're worth. Many people don't make plans two days in advance, let alone two weeks. It's a bit of a British last minute attitude, (dependent on our weather of course!) Time will tell.

Do you have any plans to celebrate the Diamond Jubilee?

56%: I do not, and probably will not make plans

Ohh go on! Don't be so miserable! I bet you will really! You're so grumpy! Don't you like this country??

Susie3042 Mon 30-May-22 13:16:44

OMG
I feel sorry for you miserable women
The young mums in my road have organized a street party it will be lovely to speak to neighbours and all the kiddies. Hopefully they will remember they were at a Jubilee party and tell their grandchildren
What a Wonderful country this is and how many people all over the world watch our celebrations and think , how lucky we are to live in Great Britain.
