Enough with the jubilee already.

The celebrations haven’t started yet and I’m already fed up with them.
I bought a loaf of bread yesterday and it had a silver crown on it and a jubilee message. When I think of the cost of redesign and printing a new message, it must impact on the price I’m paying.
Then I’ve just seen the itinerary for next week and I’m bemused by the timetable.
There’s a glorious fly past again with 40 planes and helicopters etc. I always remember my husband laughing at previous fly pasts as the UK has such a paucity of planes to do it that some of them were training planes and clapped out aircraft to bulk up the numbers.
I also didn’t realise the bank holidays were Thursday and Friday.
Oh well soon be over and we can have an in depth examination of Meghan and Harry and what they did/didn’t do, who wore what and how much did it cost etc. Ammunition for news articles for months and posts on gransnet.
Bring it on.

My daughter in law sent me a photo of their bunting today, purchased ages ago in anticipation! She's not a royalist but they are entering into the community spirit.

Sorry. But bridge tolls?

Can you imagine? Scuse me pal, are you a tory? 50p to get to Fife then, pal.

grannypiper Sun 29-May-22 16:45:19

Paddyann Is there a scheme available where those that don't support the snp can voluntary pay for bridge tolls, prescriptions etc ?

grannypiper Sun 29-May-22 16:38:46

I have ironed my Union flags, 150ft of bunting arrived a month ago. I have one bottle of Champagne for each day of the long weekend, BBQ is ready to go for the Jubilee party. Victoria sponges will be baked for The Queens official birthday. I intend to celebrate HM's great achievement.

^I'm not saying that but I'm not sure why anyone who might enjoy a party at the Jubilee is labelled a forelock-tugging sycophantic serf!!^

Fair comment. How would you describe people willing to defer and profess "love" to a lady in a privileged position just because of who her dad was? Not sure anybody's called you a serf though.

I do not love the Queen

I have never tugged my forelock

I have never curtsied in front of a Royal
(I have met and had conversations with several senior royals)

I am still in favour of the monarchy and I think being the U.K. longest serving monarch is something to be celebrated.

It is possibly to celebrate without fawning.

I m not sure why the royalists are so disapproving that they call us curmudgeonly, scrooges, miserable, kill joys
Not nice is it

It would be dreadfully boring if we were all the same ?

As I said earlier, even the Republicans here are coming. ??

No, and each to their own.

Well done, Bluebelle

BlueBelle Sun 29-May-22 15:39:31

I ve already done that Callistomon and will go in for a few hours to do some work behind the scenes so to speak
No problem for me, between that, the beach if the weathers ok and my allotment i ll be enjoying myself and those that like the red white and blue can enjoy themselves I m not trying to dissuade others from their joys people must understand not all people get their kicks the same way and I m not sure why the royalists are so disapproving that they call us curmudgeonly, scrooges, miserable, kill joys

As long as they're not watching me trying to negotiate a bowl of Jubilee trifle and a glass of champagne whilst trying to stop my crown blowing orf my head!

Honeysuckleberries Sun 29-May-22 15:33:50

I see that the pundits are predicting billions of people worldwide will be watching the celebrations. Really? I’d love to know who they think will be watching. After all when other monarchies celebrate we hardly take any notice at all.

Actually I was answering a poster who said they may be against the queen BUT they still take the holiday

I do think it would be kind if those who are not interested offered to swap shifts with those who are if they have to work.

They could take the holiday at another time to suit.

Aveline I am the happiest most contented person you could hope to meet .As you dont want the "freebies"and presumably would be happy to see people struggle to pay for things that the wealthier can afford ,teh I guess you refuse it all and make a statement by sending a cheque every month to cover what you would ahve spent....or your family.Thats the problem witha tory of either hue

Actually I was answering a poster who said they may be against the queen BUT they still take the holiday .Just like the unionists/anti SNP who still accept the perks ,

I’ve just read some of the ‘Abolish the Monarchy’ posts on Twitter. What sour unpleasant people.

Yes, let's all be happy, obsequious little monarchists grateful for the crumbs that fall from our gracious queen's table.

An alien reading GN for the first time might be interested in where most of the personal insults are coming from and who is trying to be polite.

Aveline Sun 29-May-22 14:25:08

*paddyann" not a happy soul are you? I'd quite happily pay for the universal untested freebies handed out by your lot. Not interested in their vanity projects just the hard day to day economics which seems to completely evade them.
Nothing to do with the Queen anyway.

With the greatest respect, she's already had one of those.

And may she have many more

swimcold Sun 29-May-22 13:49:25

Bluebell will join you in spirit l dip most of the year I am on the south coast ?

paddyann54 Sun 29-May-22 13:43:54

ANY of them could have quit at any time..likethe queens uncle did ,so being "on show" or fawned over and feted seems to be exactly waht they want/like.
Of course theres the hundreds of millions every year from the taxpayer and in taxpayer I include all those on minimum wage that pay VAT ,Road tax etc .
If it had been SUCH a tough life she would have thrown her hat in decades ago ,but she's too busy shovelling money away for her "heirs".Unlike a lot of her peers who are stick in horrible care homes or "managing" on their own trying to decide whether to eat or heat
.LIZZIE has had a rare and wonderful life ,sadly neither my parents nor my OH's made it even close to that age .hard work wears you out

I can appreciate why people would want to spontaneously celebrate the end of a Europe-wide conflict that resulted in many thousands of deaths.

Rich lady lives to very old age? Well I know lots of very old ladies, none of them merited a flypast.

Well said. There is a lot of talk about Queenies' hard work, it has been mostly meet and greets, banquets, and foreign travel, not my idea of hard work.

I’d find it very hard work! Can’t think of anything I’d hate more. I’d like the travel, but not if I was on show all the time.

I don’t like flypasts. Most of those aircraft are fighting/killing machines.
