What is going on with the weather? I live near Heathrow and there’s hail flying into my garden. I thought the weather was supposed to be warm. What’s it like near you?

Hail is commonly associated with thunder storms, occasionally as big as golf balls in some countries, often a very small area affected.

Honeysuckleberries and tanith, I too live near Heathrow. I was gardening with my little grandson and keeping an eye on the darkening sky as the washing was out on the line. We decided to bring it in just in case and returned to the garden moments before the first roll of thunder. All our tools were still out and I stuck a towel on my head and ran round the garden collecting two of everything while lightning flashed and I was bombarded with hailstones. I am nervous of lightning but was delighted with the deluge like most gardeners I imagine.

Beautiful sunny day here in North East Scotland. Fluffy clouds not cold. We will have a nice sunset tonight as the sky is clear this evening.

On South Coast we've had torrential rain quite a few times in the last few days and weeks, with associated flooding, and brilliant sunshine on the same day.

Torrential rain and hail in Co.Antrim yesterday, but it's blue skies and sunshine today.

Sunny her in the very North of Scotland. There is almost always a breeze, as we are quite close to the sea!

I'ts changing by the hour here; some years ago there was a hailstorm in mid June so fierce that plants in hanging baskets were shredded, and our road looked like a Christmas scene. We later discovered that the force of the hailstones had penetrated the top of our bay window and we had to have a part of the ceiling replaced. What fun the English weather is - many years ago we went for a stroll in t e warm sunshine in the park on Christmas afternoon. Don't you just love it?

South of Denmark:

Overcast with thunder and rain showers , and the temperature a bit low for the time of year.

Yesterday we had a sudden hailstorm just as we arrived at the crematorium for my mothers funeral - the pallbearers got very wet! My daughter was one of them and looked like a drowned rat when she got inside.

Heavy rain here in Berkshire, and it was so cold last night that I put my heating back on.

I have had birthday parties for my youngest on 14th June when it actually snowed. Yet her sister's birthday on 30th June the same year was boiling hot.

Maggieanne Wed 01-Jun-22 11:53:34

No, not climate change. On the 4th June 1975 we had hail and snow as I entered hospital to have my second child, two days later we had a heat wave. Not easy to forget! The weather has always been inconsistent.

Beautiful blue sky and sunshine in North Devon, with big fluffy white clouds round about. First day without a cool wind. It really feels as if summer is coming but we could do with some rain as the gardens are very dry.

mousemac Wed 01-Jun-22 11:43:10

There's this insignificant little thing known as climate change.
Nothing is going to be normal from now on. Best get used to that.

Very mixed here in Yorkshire. 1 minute rain, clouds the next clear blue sky and warm !

I have to say that i prefer it cooler than hot, can't stand it too hot, like last year !!!
But yes, very mixed today. smile

Here on the leicestershire/Warwickshire border , we have had torrential rain and warm sunny spells . At the minute it's raining again .

lixy Tue 31-May-22 17:01:38

Rain, sun, hail, thunder - we've had it all here in Bedfordshire today, changing mode quite quickly too. More like April. though it is warm when the sun's out.

Was just about to take the dog for a walk and the skies have opened again! I’ll give it 15 mins and try again ? ??
I wouldn’t mind but this is week 3 of trying to get the driveway block paved - fingers crossed tomorrow they’ll be able to finish it ?

Casdon

The sun is shining here in mid Wales, and it’s warming up (sorry FC). I’m hoping for a lovely bank holiday weekend.

Showers on and off here!
I'm sure a fine day was forecast but I saw ominous dark clouds so didn't put the washing out before we went out.

April showers in May

GrannyGravy13 Tue 31-May-22 16:07:14
