Most of the last 6 items have long disappeared already.

Although, I was at a graduation ceremony in a cathedral last week and actually saw several men wearing hats. Most were baseball hats.

Hopefully council tax to be replaced by local taxes based upon income.

Living memory of steam locomotives used on everyday mainline trains will go.

Steam locomotives only remaining on heritage lines and on special trips on the main lines.

Cameras and camcorders are now old technology. Although there will be people who still like developing negatives. This will become a niche hobby like vinyl records, stamps, postcards and coin collecting.

Living memory of WW2. There are a few of us on here.

Are metal dustbins still used?

Is it all plastic bags and plastic wheelie bins now, which in use depending where one lives?

Bowing and curtsying - really no place for either in this day and age

Sorry Maw but we are the older generations - even at 45 we are past the halfway point. Doesn’t mean we are decrepit, just that there are more younger than us than older.

Can you back that up with demographic/statistics?
There is an ever-increasing proportion of older people as we are tending to live longer and I was not aware that the birth rate was rising.
Anyway I think it is still ridiculous to characterise young middle-aged people as ^older generations^

It’s just facts, the average age we die in the UK is 81 (M/F combined age), so if we are over 41 we are in the second half of our lives, by definition the older generations. It’s not to do with proportions in each generation, just age defined.

Not so sure about the demise of socks with sandals. I see a lot of young men out and about in white socks and 'slide' type sandals and it seems it's a trend I'm sorry to say. www.theguardian.com/fashion/2020/sep/27/blend-it-like-beckham-how-the-socks-and-sandals-combo-became-cool

Surely not?!!

I bloody hope so. Tired of groups of oldies handing them round in the cinema, unwrapping them noisily then rattling them around their teeth!

VioletSky Tue 31-May-22 21:57:08

My eldest loves werthers

Grammaretto Tue 31-May-22 21:54:44

postage stamps, hand written letters and post boxes.
Washing up bowls (I hadn't realised I was alone in using one until a young visitor tried to remove it from the sink)
Ironing (I hope).
Gender stereotypes.

Tea cosies. I'm the only person I know who uses one!

I use one! It’s in the shape of a giant cat. I make a pot of tea for breakfast and like it hot.

Oh no! Definitely didnt mean anything negative by it, just thought it would be a good topic. I did say "generations" as we are in the older half as another poster said

I have grown up with many of the things mentioned! Which to me still seem relevant
