Will Charles take the throne.....or not?

So very sadly it won't be very many years before the Queen is no longer with us, so what then? Will Charles take the throne or will he pass it onto William?

I think he will abdicate. It would be a fairly short reign and bearing in mind his age he may consider the people deserve a younger more vibrant King. William is in his middle years so not a youngster, and he and Kate are popular and able to fulfil the role with more vigour. I think Charles will take all this into consideration.

Also, how does Camilla feel about being Queen? That may be another consideration.

I hope he does….

I hope that the Queen hands over to Charlesand he ruled for about 5 years before handover to William to give him a little longer as daddy to his children

Did Charles and Anne swear at judges at horse shows when they were teenagers?

I know Anne told a photographer to, Naff Off!’ while she was competing but don’t remember them swearing at judges.

I always remember Zara being interviewed and referring to her ‘dodgy family’. I do like Zara.

I hope to God Camilla never becomes Queen. She’s caused no end of problems for the Royal family and I despise her and Charles for what they did to Diana. I went right off the royal family after Diana died. I think she was treated appallingly and I hope William becomes king and that Charles doesn’t.

Diana aside, what problems has Camilla caused for the RF?

Compared to, say, Fergie, Andrew, Harry, Meghan and Diana herself.

Charles will be King that's for sure..................

But...........Hearing him voicing how he wanted to be in camilla's knickers also a Tampax and be flushed down the lavatory and swirled around..... not very Kingly

I really hope that Charles will become King. He seems to have a good outlook on life, and is not afraid to be controversial at times. I quite believe we may not have too long to wait to find out, either. I think now the Queen has reached her Jubilee, and having lost the support of Philip, she may not be here for much longer. She has been sad and lonely since he died, and although she will never abdicate, and with failing health, she does seem to have little will to carry on with life.

I’m sure he will.

Somehow I do not believe her majesty is yet ready to hand over the reins to Charles. Her words,my life beit long or short etc continue to ring in my ears.

Germanshepherdsmum Mon 06-Jun-22 13:47:31

A few centuries ago we would be executed for this speculation!

Melathome Mon 06-Jun-22 13:34:40

Of course he will. Haven’t we just celebrated duty above personal preference? If it becomes a matter of choice the monarchy won’t last long.

kwest Mon 06-Jun-22 13:20:35

Why are we speculating? Personally I would want Charles to be king and then as he gets older William and Kate will provide back-up. Just as Charles and William are doing for HM The Queen.

Aepgirl Mon 06-Jun-22 13:13:59

Of course Charles will become King. It’s what he’s been born into and what he’s been ‘trained’ for.

If he lives as long as his grandmother and his parents, he could be king for at least 20 years, and he will be a really good King.

I am sure its written in the Constitution somewhere as to who does what next as it were!!!

I think that Camilla at 74 feels the strain of duty. Neither Charles or Camilla are up to long extended tours of the Commonwealth countries far less those closer to home it would make sense to share responsibility with Charles being crowned King and William and his family doing the extended leg work a bit like they have in place just now, the Queen does less physical touring and appearances and Charles & Camilla do the long haul stuff.

ScotGranny3 Mon 06-Jun-22 12:14:31

Sadly I agree that it is unlikely that the Queen will for a many more years but while she is alive she will always be in charge! Charles has had to wait so long to inherit the throne and I don't see him abdication . . . He will follow his mother's example though I think there will be changes.

Grantanow Mon 06-Jun-22 12:13:10

Of course Charles will take the throne. Let's hope he does a better job than Charles I and II.

I can't imagine Charles would abdicate - he's waited all these years!

I agree with this view, but Am sorry because everybody I know would prefer William.

A normal upbringing, whatever that is, is not very likely to be possible for any child in the direct succession to a throne.

Nor would it be likely to serve well as an apprenticeship.

Looking back, I feel a lot of mistakes were made in the upbringing of Prince Charles, Princess Anne and their two younger brothers.

Were the schools they were sent to the wisest choices? My parents and those of my class-mates certainly were surprised. And none of us "ordinary" Scottish school-children would have been allowed to behave in public, as Charles and Anne did as teenagers. Swearing at judges at horse-shows and so on, which both Charles and Anne did.

Royal children have to realise that their privileges come at a price - they are, or should be, servants of their country.

It may be that William and Harry have had an even worse upbringing that either of their parents, or it may not.

It is to be hoped that the entire Royal Family has learned by now how not to bring up children!

Presumably, Prince Charles will become king on his mother's death, and it is to be hoped that his wife will be accorded the title of Queen Consort, and not be left in the peculiar position of having a much lower rank, just because she is her husband's second wife.

However, this may never come to pass, because looking at the Jubilee photos, I wonder how well Prince Charles actually is? To me he looks in poor health for a man of 73.

I was about to say that lemsip then I realised Grany was talking about the people of Cornwall. I don’t live there or know anyone who does so have no idea what she means. I once watched a programme about the Duchy and it seemed he cared for his tenants.

greenlady102 Mon 06-Jun-22 12:04:34

I don't think for one second that he will abdicate. I am sure his mother would expect him to continue the vow of service that she made. Yes as he gets frailer, the younger members of the working Royals will need to take on more work, but unless he gets dementia and can't do things like the boxes and the PM audiences, he will continue as she has.

Pinkhousegirl Mon 06-Jun-22 12:01:21

I think it would be wonderful if, after this queen has died, they took the opportunity of voluntary redundancy.

lemsip Mon 06-Jun-22 11:57:39

Grany

Don't like the way Charles runs the Duchy

no surprise there, you like nothing about any of it!
