Just watching the concert at Buckingham Palace and who should pop up but Her Majesty doing a beautiful clip with Paddington Bear. Even better than her appearance with James Bond

Calendargirl.
Answering your question from yesterday at 20.43
The ‘plumpish singer in a white t-shirt’ is John Newman who had a big No. 1 hit 9 years ago with ‘Love Me Again’.
Great voice.

It's difficult to tell if someone is miming unless they make a mistake. I do think, however, that Diana Ross's voice was multi tracked on occasion.

I saw the Supremes when I was still at school and think her voice now is still good for her age (78).

I think the show was fairly well balanced and the acts covered most generations.

I find myself agreeing with your last post volver

Apparently the BBC ran a poll inviting listeners to propose a song for the Jubilee and Sweet Caroline won, which explains why it has been playing everywhere.

DanniRae Sun 05-Jun-22 13:17:52

Loved the Queen and Paddington Bear (I had to ask Mr R if it was really the Queen!!)
Loved Rod. He has said he didn't want to sing "Sweet Caroline" but the BBC insisted. He sang his first song as well as he has ever done, in my opinion.
Loved Elbow - the song that they sang (On a day like this) was amazing, in my opinion.
Loved seeing George and Charlotte - what smashing, well behaved children they are.
Didn't enjoy Diana Ross - I agree Adele would have been much better to end the show.
However, overall, I loved the show and give it 9.5 - in my opinion!!

We are commenting on what we watched volver. You obviously cherry picked what you wanted to watch, fair enough, but don’t criticise us for our comments on things you quite obviously didn’t think interesting enough to view,

And still it goes on.

No, I didn't watch it, its not my kind of thing.

But you have missed the point. Neither I, nor anybody else as far as I can see, has come on this site and told people how bad the concert was in principle, or how silly those people who watched it are. Nobody has called you names, or doubted your ability to have fun. Although some might say you're never pleased. And there's quite a lot of comments along the lines of "so-an-so wasn't there" or "So-and-so was terrible" . Or that some woman hardly anybody recognised was a misery.

But say you don't want to go to a street party? You're a miserable, curmudgeonly old republican who hates old ladies and who just needs to stop spoiling everyone's fun.

I cannot believe they cut Diana Ross off grin
and Craig David couldn't be more in love with himself ? ?????????

Saw Craig David live about 20 years ago and couldn't believe how self important he was even then

A fantastic performance with lots of great acts. Queen were amazing, Andre Bocelli, Diana Ross, and lots of others. Very powerful and emotional performances, with the Queen taking tea with Paddington Bear, all the lights flashing in the Mall, and graphics lighting the sky as the show ended.

With the Queen on the balcony previously, with her family watching the Red Arrows and Lancaster bomber fly past - what an engaging weekend it has been. Loved every minute.

We missed the whole concert, busy partying ourselves but just watched the Queen taking tea with Paddington Bear on the link kindly provided by StarDreamer.
Will definitely watch the whole lot on catch up later, can’t wait.

You guys from Cymru will notice Sterephonics were not up there. The Queen would surely have appreciated Handbags and Glad rags. ? ?

Did you at least like the bit with the Queen and Paddington Bear, Volver? (excuse me if you have already discussed this, but I don't feel up to reading the 7 pages as I'm tired this morning).

Do you think that perhaps I was sitting here spitting venom and hoping it would all go wrong? I thought the film with Paddington Bear was really good. It was funny and clever. I also liked the drones, especially the running horse. That's all we watched, online, except for Elbow, because I like Elbow.

But I don't feel the need to come on here and complain about Diana Ross lip-syncing, or the acts being boring, or the Governor General of Canada being a right misery. People are so unpleasant and think its OK because we are the miserable ones, not them.

And liking one 2 1/2 minute clever video doesn't mean I want a hereditary monarchy either.

1980s sticking with the Eurovision and celebratory theme here, Bucks Fizz and Making your mind up ... whether to hand over to Charles, Wills or not at all.

^Maybe the 1950s would be a struggle, unless Cliff Richard could warble out a couple of songs^.

Who's taking bets?

Odds on favourite:
Congratulations
And Jubilations!
???????

It just has to be doesn’t it ?

I was worried about the Governor General of Canada sitting behind William. She didn't look happy at all.....

Oh, I wondered who she was. Looked a right misery.

It’s extremely difficult to put on a concert with musicians who will be liked and or known by all.

In my opinion last night covered all bases, classical, musical theatre and pop. The lighting and drone displays were spectacular.

I knew all of the acts, as AC and GC are into their music and keep me up to date.

volver Sun 05-Jun-22 11:50:10

For the last few days, those of us who are a bit (ahem) anti-Jubilee have been called miserable, fun sponges, goodness knows what.

Now this thread is full of people saying that the concert could have been better, they didn't like the acts, many of whom were boring unknowns, it was all wrong, where was Sir Cliff?

Just struck me as a bit ironic, really...

Visgir1 Sun 05-Jun-22 11:46:02

I thought it was brilliant, opening with Paddington was a perfect start.
Diana Ross disappointing but, there you go.
I might not know the names of some of those artists who perform but I knew the music just from the Radio.

My only comment was a missed opportunity was "Girls on film" from Duran Duran, I think the Catwalk display being colourful and different, would have been more fun if it was British fashion from the last 70 years, and iconic example of the Decades.

Tusue Sun 05-Jun-22 11:43:14

I loved it all but especially the queen and Paddington , she’s such a good sport and so open to doing new things.
