Good morning from Scone in Perthshire. Looking after my family's dog for the rest of the week as my son is sitting his blue light training for the fire service and is on 5 straight day shifts. Rest of week walking golfing coffering and returning dog to my family. Weather is mixed up here at the moment.

I know what you mean about war, Jaberwok.

Jaberwok Mon 06-Jun-22 11:43:22

VE day is the 8th May. VJ day 15th August. My uncle was part of D.day, fighting on into Germany and amazingly survived. My father was not so lucky, he was killed just before Xmas 1942. War is just so dreadful and brings such devastation and heartache, if only there could be a law against it.

Jaberwok

It's the anniversary of D.day today. Not sure many people will remember it though.

BBC news reported from the Normandy memorial but other news took over.

grandMattie Mon 06-Jun-22 11:18:05

? sorry I was thinking VE Day! ?‍??

Grandmadinosaur Mon 06-Jun-22 11:17:52

It was mentioned on the radio this morning Jaberwok

I do, my parents were married just after on 12th May!

A very late good morning from Essex by the sea.

I had an early hair appointment but I'm home now. This afternoon we have to take the car in for it's first MOT.

I'm still catching up with housework not done since before our holiday and I'm away again on Thursday to DD1 for a few days.

Here's hoping the weather improves, it is more like March than June. Have a great Monday everyone xxx

Morning all from a grey and drizzly Kew. Son and partner have gone to Venice for a few days so I took granddaughter to school this morning. She was a little tearful as this is the first time both parents have left her overnight. I had a quick word with the teacher and explained that she might be a bit low. We are going to Pizza Express after school so that should be fun. I will pop down to Kew Gardens in a while. It’s a five minute walk. I need to stock up on honey marmalade and I may have lunch there. My son’s partner has left me a list of what after school clubs there are, where they are, timings, items to be included in a snack box… I brought up three fairly well adjusted children, but I didn’t remind her!

A dreary and very wet start to the day here in Oxfordshire, chilly too. A lovely week off, I'm back to work today, although still working from home. Must take down the very wet bunting from around the house, its looking decidedly sad now.
Hope you all have a good day and manage to find some sunshine on this wet Monday.

Good morning everyone from a dull Co Armagh , off grocery shopping soon , no idea what I want , I don’t “ need “ anything , the freezer is full ! The top drawer has some space for lookalike magnums ?

EkwaNimitee Mon 06-Jun-22 09:48:43

Good morning Mick and everyone from cool grey Carlisle where it rained overnight.
I've been ironing and have a busy morning of housework ahead and I suppose that in the afternoon I shall have to get to grips with some boring admin. I am coming to the end of my gas tariff and have to decide what to do about the next one. I might put off the issue by pottering in the garden where there's also plenty to be done still.
I watched the first part of the Jubilee parade, the military guys doing their stuff. I was highly diverted by the lady asleep behind Prince Charles. Of course, the camera kept cutting to him so she was visible for quite a while until they changed the camera angle. The poor woman will probably be mortified by having her doze beamed around the world!

Time for my morning caffeine so I will wish you all the best possible day.

Good morning all from a grey W Kent. DS, DIL and DGD popped in yesterday and watched some of the pageant with us, so nice to see them but realised this morning I forgot to ask DIL about an outing she had been on, oh dear.
DH off to dentist today so I am trying to focus on housework and catching up with a couple of friends on the phone.
Good wishes to all

Good morning everyone from a grey and damp Northampton.

At least the rain held off yesterday, but it was so cold I reluctantly put the heating on. Had a lovely cream tea with DD-out-law and the DGDs; younger DGD had made the scones which were delicious. We then watched some of the pageant on tv.

Then it was back home to attend a chocolate tasting party at our new neighbours house. We were curious to see what they had done with it, as it had previously belonged to a single elderly gentleman, and he had just let it go over the years; let us just say it is a work in progress. But the chocolate was delicious!

Then home for a light supper and watch the recording of Saturday's rugby match, (in the middle of which a neighbour phoned to discuss/gossip about the chocolate party), followed by the highlights of Jubilee weekend. We are very concerned about a neighbour who is really struggling with her cancer treatment, but there is little we can do except just be there for her, and try to provide distractions.

A.day of catching up on a few household jobs, then reading and tv.

Wishing all the best day.

Good morning Mick and all. It’s cold and grey in my corner of Lancashire, currently 10°C.

It seems very quiet after the long weekend of celebration. Mr. B is taking the car in for service this afternoon. I will get on with some jobs and put something in the slow cooker for later.

I hope everyone has a good day today whatever you’re doing.

Happy Birthday to your DH, Nannykate

Good morning, Michael and all GNs. The weather doesn’t seem to be able to make its mind up what to do in South Yorkshire. It has been raining and no doubt will again. Yesterday’s Sunday roast went down very well and was worth the effort. My hip gave me a bad night so I’m having a slow start today. I am supposed to be going out for a meal this evening, but may cry off.
Have the best day you can folks.

Taichinan Mon 06-Jun-22 08:55:22

My goodness, it posted! So here now is a photo I took on Saturday night at 11pm - it doesn't get dark here at this time of year, and I love it!

harrigran Mon 06-Jun-22 08:53:21

Good morning from an overcast NE yet again, autumnal here.
Heating was on most of the day yesterday, so much for flaming June.
SIL came and we had our roast lamb but sadly it was chewy and not as delicious as expected, but the vegetables and Yorkshire puds were fine.
Watched a Sandra Bullock film on Netflix with SIL and then he went home to Skype DD who is at home in Brussels.
I watched a bit of the concert from Saturday night, Queen were good. The royal children were well behaved considering how long they had to sit.
Have a good day everyone.

Taichinan Mon 06-Jun-22 08:53:13

Good morning all. It's a grey day on the Angus coast after a run of lovely sunny days, and it's forecast for a sunny afternoon, so won't complain.
I've been reading all your posts every day, and posting - but my post just won't post! I have no idea why - touch the post button and nothing happens. It's very frustrating! If it happens again today I shall just quietly give up - though goodness knows why I'm telling you that as if it doesn't go you won't know!!
Anyway it's been very quiet here. Like most people I have loved watching the jubilee celebrations, but there's been nothing much round here and certainly no flags or bunting.
Susan I do hope you find a solution regarding the care of your poor mum. I am a very fit 80, but sooner or later I am going to be in her position I guess, as my family all live far away and DD, who lives closest, will be moving south next summer. So I can sort of see things from your mum's point of view - I would hate to go into a home. I'll be interested to see what you come up with as a solution.
I'm so happy to see that things have calmed down a little now for you and your DH, grandmattie flowers and that DH is not so sick now.
I had a lovely long chat with DS2 on the phone yesterday. I have Bluetooth hearing aids which operate through my phone, so that when my phone rings I answer it by tapping my ear - a "magic" I never tire of! On this occasion I was driving and my phone was in my handbag on the front seat next to me, which was where it stayed of course. So I wasn't breaking any law by chatting because to all intents and purposes DH was sitting next to me in the front passenger seat as we chatted for about 30 miles! The wonders of modern technology. Love it!
Now I'm off to press 'Post' so have a good day everyone x

Still raining in our part of Oxfordshire, dog sitting so will have to go for a walk later.
New fridge need to be replaced as the door isn’t sealing, the fitter said it might sort itself out as the seal was a bit squished
( my words not his) otherwise I will need to get in touch and get a replacement fridge.but it hasn’t.
Have you ever tried to get in touch with Currys? Maybe it’s because it was a Bank holiday Sunday, so will try again today. Or I will have to go into Oxford in person and sort it out.
Anyway, I’ll try again at 9 am.
Have a good day everyone, hope everyone on holiday has a good time.

Grandmabatty Mon 06-Jun-22 08:27:34

Good morning all from Polmont where it's 9° and cloudy. I don't think the forecast is too bad though.
Yesterday dgs1 spent four happy hours with me to give his mum a rest. Today I'm meeting them after nursery in town for a haircut (dgs1) and a hot chocolate (dgs1). I'll have a coffee. I want to do some drawing too. Have a good day all.

NanKate Mon 06-Jun-22 08:20:07

Good morning Mick Mary NannyJ Kitty and All.

We had a lovely Jubilee Tea yesterday with our 96 year old friend. She is as sparky as ever regaling us with stories of her life. Then we watched a recording of the fabulous French Tennis Final when Nadal won for the 14th time- MEGA ?

Today is DH’s 77 birthday we are off to a NT House in Oxfordshire then to Waitrose to buy a Charlie Bingham meal for tonight.

Have the best day you can folks.

Gingster Mon 06-Jun-22 08:13:52

Good morning all and it’s a wet one.

We had a nice relaxed afternoon with DD and little Gd. DS1 popped in and DS2 facetimed us to tell us of his family holiday in Florida. They had a great time but we’re a bit ‘Disneyed Out’ by the end of a full on 2 weeks. The last time he was there was with us 32 years ago and of course it has changed a lot.

I watched the highlights of the Pageant and laughed at little Prince Louis’ antics with his poor mum trying to calm him down. He has real spirit, that boy. The Queen looked frail but what a trooper! ??.

I hope you all have a gentle day after all the excitement of the last few days. ?
