Due to have a procedure tomorrow for a “trial” which might help a bit with some of my fine selection of tumours (but most likely to help further the research) and I’m getting a bit anxious about the general anaesthetic. I don’t like the feeling of helplessness when you are wheeled into the theatre. Tell me I’m being daft….

All will be well Lucca. I had an operation recently with an epidural. I have no memory of anything the theatre. When you wake it will be finished and you will be doing your bit for us all as well as hopefully helping you too. Best wishes

Best of luck Lucca, I hope all goes well.

You are certainly not being daft Lucca. From recent experience of entering the ante room of the operating theatre I’ve found that the nurses are very attuned to the patient’s mood and will ask how you are. You can say if you feel wobbly, anxious etc. but in any case almost certainly, a nurse will hold your hand. Each nurse seems to have their own vocabulary at times like this … ‘we’ll look after you’, ‘you’re in safe hands’. Believe them, do, because they will, and you will be. ?

Lucca

Very sorry to hear you’re unwell.

Due to my lung problems, I was so scared of having a GA, to remove a cyst in my breast. Nothing to worry about. Once the injection is in, you’re out. Good luck Lucca

Hi Lucca, just popping by to tell you that you're not being remotely silly or daft.

I feel your worry. I"m due a procedure (I hate that word!), in early July. It's all the worrying beforehand that bothers me. Thinking the most ridiculous scenarios and basically getting into a right old tizz about it all.

Anyway, lots of love and good luck and I hope all goes well for you.

I also agree with Sago, it's never as bad as we expected and you'll be awake soon, beaming away wondering what the concern was for.

Let us know how it went flowers

You’re not being daft at all, it’s natural to be apprehensive. Last time I told a nurse I was nervous and she held my hand and chatted to me, everyone there was so lovely & it really helped me.
Hope all goes well tomorrow xxx

Lucca, not daft at all, but very kind and brave so thank you.
I will do a virtual hand hold all day if it would help.

I had my first ever GA 4 weeks ago and feared the worst but I woke some hours later very woozy but fine.

Wishing you all the best and good luck ??

Namsnanny Wed 15-Jun-22 13:28:41

Of course you're going to worry?.
Wishing you all the bestflowers

Hope all goes well for you tomorrow; taking part in a trial is a great thing to do. You are not handing over control - you are playing your own vital role in the procedure and the research.

My son was told to imagine himself doing something he enjoys. In his case it was cycling along a fast straight road. Then he had to count each time his right foot pedalled downwards - he got as far as four before he woke up on recovery!
Think I'd count rotations of my hand whisk beating egg whites - I really enjoy watching the liquid turn into that white froth.

You're not being daft Lucca. Many of us would worry a bit even though we know it will be fine. I'm sure the staff will put you at ease.
I hope it helps.
Wishing you all the best. ? ?

Sar53 Wed 15-Jun-22 13:14:22

Good luck for tomorrow Lucca and no you are not being daft. We all worry about different things .

Well done for helping with research.

geekesse Wed 15-Jun-22 13:11:09

I love going under general anaesthetic! I’ve had a few procedures over the years, and look forward to the quick, easy, blissful descent into sleep.

Parsley3 Wed 15-Jun-22 13:06:26

Good luck for tomorrow Lucca. I had an op recently and understand your concerns. You are not being daft at all. I hope it will help if I say that you probably won’t have the time or opportunity to feel helpless. I walked into the operation theatre hopped on a bed and the team got to work. The next thing I knew I was waking up and it was all over. I say waking up but I went straight back to sleep for quite a few hours. Sending you very best wishes for tomorrow. ?

Wishing you all the best for tomorrow Lucca

I like to be in control (according to my friends and family grin) which makes me fearful of anaesthesia. On the occasions when I have had no choice but to have a general anaesthetic the anaesthetist were kind and understanding, I think they are used to their patients not being pleased to see them flowersflowers

Sago Wed 15-Jun-22 12:54:57

I hate that feeling too!
I used to have to have a GA on a 3 weekly basis for a year or so, I never got used to it.
I used to have a sleepless night beforehand and then when I got there it wasn’t ever as bad as I had anticipated.

Good luck and great that you’re on a research program, my MIL responded really well to a new drug combination that was trialed for bone cancer.

ShazzaKanazza Wed 15-Jun-22 12:54:13

All the luck in the in the world for your procedure tomorrow Lucca. You are absolutely not being daft. I’ve never had an anaesthetic so I can’t give personal experience but I do understand where your coming from. I would feel the same I think. I couldn’t scroll by without wishing you well. ?

Joane123 Wed 15-Jun-22 12:49:12

Good luck tomorrow Lucca. You are helping others with the research flowers
