The Virtual cruise Lyon to Avignon and Arles is continuing yet seems likely to be completed in a few days.

What appeared to work is that I suggest a scenario then others run it.

So what next?

Bearing in mind the typical ages of readers here and thus the eras in which we grew up, and that a journey from one place to another gives a structure so that the thread progresses and moves on over a number of days, I am wondering if readers like the following idea for a scenario.

A present day rock 'n' roll history tribute band is touring from Chicago to Los Angeles along Route 66, visiting the historic parts of the old Route 66 wherever possible.

If you start one with rules, either posters won’t join, if they don’t like the rules, or they will join and move it on as it suits them.
I’m not sure how insisting on rules that suit the OP, or any other poster will work. GN certainly has no power over that other than removing a thread, which is unlikely to happen just because someone objects to food.
You can always try.

On a Point of Order ...
Alas, the above post did not become noted on the Active discussions list.
Is there any way that this thread could become noted on the Active discussions list please?

Two virtual cruises have happened thus far.

One completed, and another one almost complete.

There has been talk of a virtual cruise along the Rhine and also talk of a virtual journey on The Orient Express, and of a virtual replica train already under construction in France.

As it happens, both of the two cruises have content of what might be called "Argy humour".

It is possible that the virtual cruise along the Rhine and the virtual journey on The Orient Express will also fearure Argy humour.

However, Argy humour is not everyone's delight, for whatever reason.

And, personally, as a vegan, well, if food is mentioned, well.

So I am wondering if there would be interest in a virtual cruise that is more of a discussion type thread, no mention of details of food unless it is vegan, maybe seeking out vegan restaurants along the way, and, some links allowed, not packed with links, but not a ban on including them.

I appreciate that this format wil; not appeal to everybody, just as the Argy humour format does not appeal to everybody, but I am posting this to try to find out as to whether such a format of virtual cruise does appeal to some readers.

If it does, a thread can be started, if not then I can just leave it.

There is no reason why some people could not post in both types of virtual cruise if they so wish, bearing in mind the different formats of the two types of virtual cruise.

I saw the thread.

I did the test.

All is explained.

Great relief.

Excellent.

Apparently some washing machine service men open with "What have you done to it?"

Me: "Well, it wouldn't work so I took a sledgehammer to it and it started leaking all over the floor."

Repairman: "So - what do you think is the problem?"

Me: "It's leaking"

Marsha

Not sure why all this is under Chat. This is not my idea of a chat smile. It’s exhausting.

I have not felt that I am monitoring or spying on anybody, I just look at times to notice if videos to which I link have an increased number of views. I do not tend to do it with very popular videos, but having noticed a video that came up had only 19 views in several years I just thought it interesting if a mention on Gransnet might sort of double that in one day or something.

I can't quite remember, but I think that I first noticed that performer some time ago whn I searched for the song Jambalaya.

The thing is, often when I am using my computer I run YouTube in the background, so not watching, more like having the radio on, and I often run My Mix which YouTube compiles automatically from what I have played and YouTube adds a few in similar genres in too, and that video often gets played.

When I am eating I tend to put the videos on to full screen view, so I get a continual flow of music videos while I am eating. I find it quite relaxing. Some of the videos that get played often are very popular ones and some are quite rare ones that I have found.

I am concerned that you feel monitored and spied on, and feel uncomfortable. I had no idea of that, it seems to me that looking if a video to which I have linked has had an increase of views is entirely harmless - I have no idea who has looked.

YouTube openly provides view figures. Some forums provide view figures for threads, Gransnet does not. It had never occurred to me that anybody would be concerned that view figures are provided for videos and threads and that someone might notice how popular a video or thread is by looking at those view figures.

Enjoy! ?

Hello SD
(or ? ⭐️ ? -er.
I do like an emoji, but I know that they are considered very passé )

What dancing?
I was uncharacteristically asleep!
Not that my being asleep is uncharacteristic; but rather being asleep during the conventional time for it, is.

StarDreamer Tue 28-Jun-22 07:09:38

Hello Fanny

Did you enjoy watching the dancing in the middle of the night?

We don’t have a “Self-flagellation” forum .

grin

FannyCornforth Tue 28-Jun-22 07:07:17

Callistemon
It’s been going on for ages.
Riverwalk, Maw and I have all started threads about the Active List malfunctioning; and it has been mentioned numerous times on other threads.
I can do links to the threads mentioned if required!

The first Hip Replacement thread (started by Silverlining) hardly ever appeared in its rightful place; and Ellianne’s (now Joseanne) lovely photo thread is near on invisible.
I also had a thread called Royal Chat which rarely appeared.

It’s very frustrating if a thread isn’t reaching its intended target (especially in the case the Hip thread and the photo thread)
If you’re not ‘on’ it; you can’t see it.

At least this one is somewhere on The Active List.
