I'm not too keen on either the dress itself or the appearance of the bust and sleeves - or is it me?
Faces good, tho '?

Nobody mentioned jeans and sneakers FGS

It’s just a boring rather stuffy portrait

Parsley3 Sat 25-Jun-22 15:12:27

I doubt that the artist was briefed to make William look like Mr Potatohead and to give Catherine some boobage but that is the result. The background puzzles me. Portrait of the Cambridges in no man’s land with a downpipe.

She wore the dress in Ireland a few years ago, apparently

But obviously not the same bra under it!

My first thought on seeing the portrait was "This young woman needs proper advice about buying a bra!"

As a formal portrait goes it is all right - you surely didn't expect them to be portrayed in jeans and sneakers, did you?

Looking at it from the eyes of a 92 year old I THINK ITS GREAT and when looking back in time and remembering some of the so called paintings that is passed as art, I can at least make out who it is.

Well Done the artist.

MissAdventure Sat 25-Jun-22 14:36:10

I know, I'll do something extraordinarily "with it" and put a hand in my pocket! Sick!

Lucca Sat 25-Jun-22 14:30:09

Modernising the monarchy it ain’t.

What shall we wear for the portrait ?
You wear that slippery green dress that does something risqué to your boobs .
Ok and you could wear that suit that makes your head look like a King Edward ( oops …)

Nagmad2016 Sat 25-Jun-22 14:29:59

As soon as I saw this portrait I though it looked a bit old and dowdy for this pair. They are young, and have a vitality that this portrait does not show. I've seen much better pictures (photographs) that show them off in a much better way.

MissAdventure

I wonder what they think of the portrait, really?
I suppose they must like it?
Or do they get home and say "Did you see my head looked like a potato?"

??

CBBL Sat 25-Jun-22 13:01:57

I'm not really sure about it. I don't think Catherine is captured exactly, and I dislike the "hands in pockets" from William - though I guess he is trying to look casual!

MissAdventure Sat 25-Jun-22 12:58:42

I think we could just carry on roasting them. smile

Joseanne Sat 25-Jun-22 12:57:11

So if William is a King Edward, his is kids must be baby royal potoatoes or Charlottes.
Do we roast them or mash them?

JaneJudge Sat 25-Jun-22 12:50:33

??????

MissAdventure Sat 25-Jun-22 12:49:40

grin priceless!

volver Sat 25-Jun-22 12:48:22

That made me choke on my coffee. ??

Galaxy Sat 25-Jun-22 12:47:24

No shes gone home and said do you think anyone noticed the toes, we are so close to world domination we dont want any slips up before the final invasion of toeless potato heads.

win Sat 25-Jun-22 12:44:42

The dress is ghastly not Kate at all, she usually wears such lovely clothes. It is stuffy and as most say William is totally out of proportion Kate is prettier and younger in the flesh that she is in this painting. Not my taste at all.

MissAdventure Sat 25-Jun-22 12:44:20

grin

JaneJudge Sat 25-Jun-22 12:44:02

and I quite liked the painting but I do think his head looks like a potato

JaneJudge Sat 25-Jun-22 12:43:39

I do actually have an art based degree

aggie Sat 25-Jun-22 12:42:41

As a work of art it fails , as a portrait it fails , as inspiration it fails spectacularly

MissAdventure Sat 25-Jun-22 12:41:28

MissAdventure

So speaks the gransnet art appreciation group. grin

Catherine has a degree in Art History!!
Is that why they both look slightly embarrassed as if they're holding back giggles?

That is my profound judgement.

MissAdventure Sat 25-Jun-22 12:38:50

It was a joke, M0nica.
That's all.

M0nica Sat 25-Jun-22 12:35:15

*MissAdventure, yes and? This is publlic art and is free to comment by the public

Should we all have to have degrees in Fine Art before we dare comment n this rather pedestrian painting?

Galaxy Sat 25-Jun-22 12:19:56

High brow we are.
