I'm not too keen on either the dress itself or the appearance of the bust and sleeves - or is it me?
Faces good, tho '?

P.S what's a strapline?

It's a secret artistic term, known only to a few

Painterly Fri 24-Jun-22 20:50:03

I think Kate really suits green but that dress is horrible, imo. The sleeves and hem flounces look dated and fussy and the fabric isn't good, given the sheen.

Perhaps it's progress, but I want my royal family to look regal, slightly aloof, different from commoners smile

In this portrait William is too casual. I don't like the hand in the pocket, or his stance, and Kate looks as though she's saying over her shoulder, "Okay, I'll be there in a minute" to one of her children.

She'd look more like a Queen-in-waiting with her hair up too. I know we have moved on but this looks like they may be about to go out dancing. The car keys are in his pocket.

Not the best portrait, sadly. I agree with others. It lacks depth. It's too like a photograph.

P.S what's a strapline?
No idea where I dredged that up from.

Callistemon21 Fri 24-Jun-22 19:55:01

I can't see a signature on it?

Oh, Jamie Coreth. He seems to like painting portraits of women wearing satin, a very difficult, unflattering fabric.

MissAdventure Fri 24-Jun-22 19:53:42

It doesnt strike me as a very catchy strapline.
So, we have 'Man with an extra long leg and one hand where it shouldn't be, at C & A' hmmm...

Callistemon21 Fri 24-Jun-22 19:51:04

Galaxy

And his hand somewhere it shouldnt be grin

Well, they both look as if they're trying not to laugh! ?

MissAdventure Fri 24-Jun-22 19:49:21

Man with an extra long leg at C & A. smile

Parsley3 Fri 24-Jun-22 17:28:06

Man at C&A keeps popping into my head when I look at him. Was that once an advertising slogan?

MissAdventure Fri 24-Jun-22 17:26:19

grin

MissAdventure Fri 24-Jun-22 17:21:19

So, it's lovely, apart from his big head and one long leg.
Her bosoms being somehow wrong, and the big pipe in the corner. smile

Not keen on it myself although I wish I could paint half as good a likeness.
The sleeve of the dress seems to have something stuffed into the top of it. William seems to have an unattractive smirk on his face, but I have noticed that expression in real life.

LadyGracie Fri 24-Jun-22 15:27:54

I think it’s lovely of them both, although I agree her bust is a little odd.

timetogo2016 Fri 24-Jun-22 14:22:47

I like it.

grannyactivist Fri 24-Jun-22 13:41:45

As someone who can’t draw or paint above the level of a three year old I am always in awe of portrait painters who can produce recognisable likenesses. ???‍?

lixy Fri 24-Jun-22 13:33:01

Not for me. I like the photo's Kate produces much better than this. It doesn't do justice to their sense of fun or style.

Lucca Fri 24-Jun-22 13:25:10

I get the impression that for some people anything which mentions the Cambridges must be received with glowing praise regardless !!

M0nica Fri 24-Jun-22 12:08:43

Do not like it. Rather dull and does not do either of them justice.

Nevermind, I am sure there will be many more.

maddyone Fri 24-Jun-22 10:36:55

I don’t know much about art. It seems to be a perfectly nice painting. Very good likenesses of them both, but maybe that’s not good in art. I don’t know.

MissAdventure Fri 24-Jun-22 10:25:52

I'm certainly stunned by it. smile

Sparklefizz Fri 24-Jun-22 10:24:03

karmalady

lovely stately painting. There are plenty of photos that show the essence of this couple but this painting needed to show a king and queen in waiting without too much formality

I agree. I think it's a stunning painting.

Sparklefizz Fri 24-Jun-22 10:23:21

CanadianGran

I had to look closely to see if it was a photo or paining. While i think it's very good, I would like to see something a bit more artistic, if that makes sense.

Look at this lovely painting by a Canadian artist of Kate.

I don't think that's a good likeness of Kate at all.

nadateturbe Fri 24-Jun-22 09:54:45

I agree with Canadagran and Grandma70s.
A painting should look like a painting.

TillyTrotter Fri 24-Jun-22 08:49:53

1 out of 3 ‘s not bad Lucca . ?

Parsley3 Fri 24-Jun-22 08:47:51

Ah, that explains it. Admirers of this daft portrait have been mesmerised. I did wonder. The dress is too shiny and his leg is too long so not a good painting at all.
