Who dusts all those shelves and the pots and dishes on them?

ExDancer Sun 10-Jul-22 15:25:27

I used to like the one for a beer (forget the name) when young monks on skates bring a crate onto a frozen lake and it falls through the ice. It always made me smile.
(but I can't for the life of me remember the beer's name)

Is that the one with the ever-knowledgable bloke and the dippy woman (June) who takes his word for everything and takes out insurance because he's done it?

Yes, the acting is awful, as is the portrayal of a retired lifestyle.

The one that irritates me most is the one for Over 50s Life Insurance. I've seen better acting in a school play.

Is it my imagination or does the volume become louder for ads? I've noticed that if you put a young child in front of the telly with some toys to play with they always look up when the ads appear.

I automatically press the mute button so I don't have to listen to them as well.

Worst one got to be for Magnum ice creams. A woman bites into making a big cracking noise.

Hate that one where somebody famous has a yoghurt with a side of little chocolate balls and laughs hysterically when she gets it on her face ! How utterly stupid ! Am annoyed just thinking about it.grin

I used to work in market research so I do find advertising fascinating.

MayBee70 Sun 10-Jul-22 11:57:29

Not only dust but things in my kitchen get very greasy if they’re not in a cupboard, even though I have an extractor fan on and don’t actually fry much either.

We record most things on commercial TV so we do not have to watch the adverts. I find it really annoying when I have missed something or someone recommends post watching and I have to view it on All 4/5.
I liked the Budweiser Frogs and the Walls Sausages dog, amusing.

I use the adverts to do a chore or two- in fact you could do your entire housework list during some advert breaks. Even on the BBC you have to suffer endless trailers. I guess it must pay off or they wouldn't do it.

I hate the " ice skating is my passion""one. Been on far too often.

This is it

I don't like any of them, but the one I find really irritating is the one for Vimto or Ribena, where the bloke is trying to park his car, and all the (stuffed) cats are saying "Mate", then one cat tries to park the car. Utter drivel.

Redhead56 Sun 10-Jul-22 10:35:42

Patronising and half the time you don't know what is being advertised. I fast forward or watch advert free same on the radio switch off as soon as I hear them.

StarDreamer Sun 10-Jul-22 08:16:32

I often put YouTube on a continual music playlist, with video displayed when eating and just hearing the sound when doing something else.

From time to time, there is an advertisement, which can be for 5 seconds unskippable, 15 seconds unskippable, or longer, skippable after 5 seconds.

Sometimes these advertisements are quite interesting and I watch all the way through, if they are short I just let them roll through anyway. Recently, with music in the background, an advertisement started and after a while I realised that there was a man talking, no music: so I put YouTube as the displaying window and found that the advertisement had being going for about 5 minutes and was over an hour in length!

Recently there is one that arises that is about 5 minutes about a system for teaching.

One advertisement came on recently and it was a lady singing with a small group of musicians. I wondered what it was advertising. It was about three minutes long. It turned out that the group was advertising itself as a musical group.

I had not known of a musical group advertise itself like that before, well done them.

Argh! The Fairy laundry pod advert where the young boy is painting in a WHITE top as well as his Mum. Both are covered in paint and she is smiling............seriously?!?!

In fact, most modern adverts irritate me immensely and certainly don't inspire me to rush out and but that particular product/service.

The old ones are the best, Boddingtons, PG Tips, and many more

eazybee Sun 10-Jul-22 07:45:03

The sheer number and length of them.
The fact some are so slick I have no idea what product they are promoting.
Celebrities promoting products.
June (you know).

vegansrock Sun 10-Jul-22 05:24:18

Switch over to whatever is on BBC 2 or Channel 4 for at least 5 minutes.

nanna8 Sun 10-Jul-22 05:07:46

The repetition. Also put on ‘posh’voices from bad actors, not that we get that many here. Dysons put you right off. There is an absolutely vile annoying one here for Strepsils with this woman with a fake cough. Haven’t bought any since !

hollysteers Sun 10-Jul-22 01:02:37

Men portrayed as being stupid and useless, then put right by their smug wives/girlfriends/children.

I quite enjoy glamour adverts for perfume with good music and beautiful settings, but they have zero effect on my buying habits.

StarDreamer Sun 10-Jul-22 00:51:08

Those were the days!

I never bought it though ... nor drank it either ... nor spilled it.

Doodledog Sun 10-Jul-22 00:14:11

I'm another who hates the Haribo ones and is fond of the Meerkats grin.

I hate the ones with long shouty bits. Cavooooooooorrrrnia, or one of the car hire/sales ones. I think there's a pot noodle one, too. I'm certain that they are timed to go a smidgeon over the tolerable zone, so that you have to look up and see what's going on. It clearly hasn't worked though, as you can tell from my lack of recall of the products.

Vito Sat 09-Jul-22 23:53:08

Everything angry

Deedaa Sat 09-Jul-22 21:22:19

I normally manage to record most things so I can fast forward through the ads but, for what it's worth, I like the Haribo ones. A previous favorite was the Old Spice one "I'm the man your man could smell like - I'm on a horse"

Ohmother Sat 09-Jul-22 21:15:54

The length of them!!! You used to dive out the room to put the kettle on and a t bag in a mug. Now you can make a whole meal ?‍♀️
