Isn’t it?
It’s 27 degree in my bedroom with two fans on.
My bedroom seems to have its own microclimate…

I saw the sex pistols interview and decided I was going to be a punk 1976!
My poor mum! Thank goodness mine were tiny!

In ‘76 I was working for an insurance company and although it was admin so no one saw the clients we still had to wear stockings. In the September we had our holiday and it poured with rain.

Unfortunately because of health problems I have to wear thick support tights these days. Two weeks ago it was 37 and I had to go to Paris, I used my umbrella to keep the sun off my head, it was too hot for a sun hat.

MissA you were clearly delirious.
But seriously, I know what you mean about remembering things; sometimes you remember second or third hand stories; or embellish your own recollections

So interesting to hear about that famous 1976 summer, with all its gory details!! Saw lots of photos though and was stunned to see everyone looking SO brown! Could have been Spain. Glad we missed it as we were overseas in glorious air conditioned rooms with plenty of water. No I don’t like the heat but it is nice to have a real summer, isn’t it?

*No. No it isn’t ‘nice’. It really isn’t*?

Oh, I just can't sort it all into order.
There was a pub built here in honour of the jubilee, and I saw the sex pistols interview and decided I was going to be a punk.
My poor mum!

MissA 1977 was the Silver Jubilee Year - street parties, walkabouts by the Queen and Prince Philip.

We had grasshoppers hopping into the kitchen ?

It's strange, I seem to have morphed a couple of years memories into one..
The holiday.
Elvis dying.
My dad dying. (But then how was he driving the car on our holiday?!)
A kidney infection.
Ladybirds.
A long, hot summer.

Was it 76 when Elvis died?
We were on holiday in cornwall.

I was working at Butlins Minehead and distinctly remember it and couldn’t quite believe it as most people couldn’t

The summer of 76 ended up with with torrential rain. Days of it. It was the day the roofers came and began stripping our roof, the start of a reroofing project.

There was a cooling breeze last night and I need to use my duvet for part of the night!

Merryweather I have the same trouble with my dog !!

My son and family were here from Australia recently and were surprised at how our heat had bothered them. They decided it was because it felt more humid than the heat they’re used to.

Kartush Sat 16-Jul-22 06:24:48

it always makes me smile to see posts like these, not in a nasty way but because here in Australia where I am 27 degrees is a pleasant spring day. Right now with temps down around 18 degrees I am really wishing for 27. Having said that, I do feel for you because I'm sure your house is built to keep heat in and 27 is not your norm. open every window in your house, that's what we do when it gets to hot

When my home is too hot at night for me to sleep I take cushions outside and sleep on a swinging seat in the garden. Fantastic.

Sorry to gloat Gransnetters but here in Aberdeen it's about 17 degrees . I needed my cardigan today.

I caved and turned the air conditioning on last night and the previous night. My two-year-old bed shares and insists on holding on to me all night. It's too hot for contact unless the ac is on. It was 30 in here before I turned it on. Sunday/Monday/ Tuesday will be interesting.
The children break up from school soon so the weather will turn as soon as they break up(Wednesday lunchtime for us)!

I often save any hair product mist sprays when empty. Some are used if I paint and the others have either cold water, or water with a small amount of cold peppermint tea. During the night, If I keep waking up feeling too hot, I spray the water up into the air to fall gently on me like a light shower. Obviously you have to be careful to not spray anywhere near electrical equipment or electrical sockets but it is so refreshing and instantly cooling.

I’ve got a Dyson hot and cool fan Fanny, it is my very effective source of heating in my living room. But for a cool air fan only I think they are very expensive. I am currently using a Swan brand fan ( about £40 ) on the lowest setting and it is blissssss. It doesn’t purify the air of course though.

MissAdventure

I was just about to ask how it ended.
I can't seem to remember.

I do! I was blackberrying with my parents, and we got soaked.

I would love to see a fox in the garden. I've only ever seen one - in a field in France.

Disco has ended thankfully. Must try to sleep.
Quiet day here tomorrow. The place will be deserted as most people head to parades. Everything except petrol stations closed.

You wouldn't if you trod in its dump whilst putting washing out yukkity yuk yuk!!!! Filthy vermin, townies should stop encouraging them with unwrapped food waste etc. They belong well away from us

MissAdventure Wed 13-Jul-22 16:54:17

I remember a thread being made just for people to moan about the heat at one point.
I can't remember when that was, either, though. smile
I just know i appreciated it, because i hate hot weather.
