Bon quatorze juillet!

I like this 'holiday bridge' le pont , to the weekend. My kids
and Grandkids arrived for a couple of days to enjoy a long weekend before they départ en vacances. Anybody working
in this heat needs a medal.

There's a lot of faire le pont goes on!

This year I had the bright idea to send my dear French Goddaughter some money for her birthday on 13/7 via Moneygram. Went to local Post Office-which I use to send money to Ukrainian lady I know with no trouble-assistant obviously hassled and in a rush-sent the blooming money as cash instead of to GD’s account (I was pushing IBAN number at her!).
So now, instead of cash going straight into GD’s account she has to go to a Post Office and, of course, they’re all closed probably til Monday as they «faire le pont» over the weekend-grrr!!

We went off and watched the fireworks at St Lo from the ramparts.

If I shut my eyes the firworks sounded like artillery and rifle fire and I kept thinking of all the gun fire and fighting, this great stronghold has withstood over the centuries.

There was a massive battle for St Lo in WW2 as it was a German strong point and everything within the ramparts was destroyed. Now it is just fireworks and cries of joy and pleasure.

Yes the atmosphere and general bonhomie is great. We both have underlying health problems so thought it best to give it a miss.

Oh that's a shame sodapop. 14th July, and all its festivities, is my madeleine de Proust. The music, the food, the stalls with antiques and junk , the fireworks etc.

It's the first year since Covid that there will be the whole weekend of celebrations in our nearest small town. Its usually so enjoyable with bands from all over the country coming together as well as the usual brocante and fireworks. Sadly we decided not to go as its so hot and Covid is rife in the area. Our Mairie and Bureau de Poste have both been closed as the staff all have Covid. I'm really disappointed we felt it necessary to make this decision.

I always fancied Paris on 14th, and half thought of going this year, but decided hours standing on the Champs Elysées ( especially in the heat) would not be fun. Then more standing at night to watch fireworks, so it looks like that’s a trip which won’t happen!

I did read many fireworks have been cancelled because of the risk of fire in certain areas of France because it is so dry now.
14 July isn't the same without ? ?

I like this 'jour de fete'in the middle of July, and it heralds in the start of the 'Grand. Vacances'. Just a bit too hot
