I've a dental hygienist appointment at midday.

We're booked for a short break in the Forest of Dean and should be driving down today to arrive at 4pm. Instead, to avoid the heat, we'll be driving down early tomorrow morning to arrive before 9am.

Meantime, at home, the sun hits the rear of the house in the mornings and the front in the afternoon, so we can manage to keep in the shade all day one way or another.

My strength and balance class this afternoon. Our teacher just rang to say the class will go ahead but we will only do gentle sitting down exercises. And bring plenty of water to drink.

PamelaJ1, I think it's just far safer to just stay indoors today. The council here are sending out road gritters (to sprinkle sand) as there are concerns about tarmac melting - on the local roads, not motorways. Still, there's always that small chance that your car/bus/train may be delayed or break down, leaving you stranded in the heat.

I am going nowhere, we have a north facing study, which doesn't get the sun and has big windows and here I intend to stay.

I was thinking of going for a drive as the car has Aircon. Then I'm wondering if the heat might cause it to break down then obviously we will fry by the roadside. So in balance I'm staying put.grin

The Times has listed 10 places to go to in a heatwave. Some of them may be a little impractical though!
Popping up to Inverness for example!

However museums, churches, cinemas and supermarkets seem like a good idea. I was in a church yesterday and it was very cool. A lot of them sell sell refreshments but if yours doesn’t then take a flask, a book and a couple of cushions then chill.
