The Times has listed 10 places to go to in a heatwave. Some of them may be a little impractical though!
Popping up to Inverness for example!

However museums, churches, cinemas and supermarkets seem like a good idea. I was in a church yesterday and it was very cool. A lot of them sell sell refreshments but if yours doesn’t then take a flask, a book and a couple of cushions then chill.

Come to my house. We have thick granite and cob walls which no heat can penetrate. Warm in winter, cool in summer. Come and join me here.

Monday and Tuesday went out early to drop my DD at the station then wen for a quick top up shop before spending the day under a well positioned fan. Both days train cancellations meant picking her up from nearby towns as she didn't fancy waiting at Paddington for a slow train to our local station. By the end of the day a trip in an air conditioned car provided welcome relief so happy to oblige!
Today trains a bit more normal so she got home to our local station just in time for a very refreshing shower of rain. She's working from home tomorrow so no early morning trips out.

pamdixon

coolest place normally by the freezer cabinets in the supermarket!!

Apparently the fridges and freezers in the large supermarket where my order is coming from today have broken down so a lot of my order is cancelled.

Other items are out of stock (toiletries, toilet rolls etc) so it looks like a trek around to find essentials will be needed tomorrow.

I thought folk might like to see where we had lunch today.
Meelmore Lodge overlooks Hares Gap in the Mourne Mountains.
We are very lucky. Our weather is not too hot.

I hope you enjoyed your lunch and feel better soon Monica. You do get tired of salad.

Our local church was promoting itself as a haven from the heat!

A friend was due to visit for the day, but we postponed it 10 days when the heatwave was expected as she would have a 50 mile journey to reach us and we didn't want her risking driving in extreme heat should the heatwave have spilled into today.

I am still recovering from a severe bacterial infection (GP's diagnosis) and today was one of those 'off' days, you get when you think you are over something and have had several days of normal functioning, then it comes back to side swipe you again.

We went out for lunch because I am sick of salad, I seem to have eaten hardly anything else for a fortnight, but, no doubt, will have it for supprtonight.

I stayed put, attended to the usual morning tasks (bin day tomorow) finished the red currant juice I started making yesterday when I donned a long sleeved thin shirt and a head-scarf before picking the currants as our currant bushes are in full sun from 9. a.m.

Juice bottled and washing up done, I went out and dug a trench for my leeks - the bed is in shade until about now. (Quarter past three continental summer time).

Wind seems to have risen, as my room door keeps slamming shut, which means the wind is blowing in throught the open back door and up the stairs.

It was 36°C in Ponteland yesterday afternoon but the new state-of-the-art leisure centre has air conditioning. I went there for karate and it was wonderful. Aah.....

Live by the sea but too far to walk to as my arthritis has kicked in due to the heat. Bet its packed on our beach anyway so just sit with a book & my feet up in front of the fan! Will be cooler tomorrow

By complete coincidence we are visiting friends in the Highlands. Very pleasant weather and not too hot!

I always see my GD after school on Wednesday (with my son, their dad). We'll be doing that and going somewhere for a really early dinner, then back to the school as the eldest (11) is in a school play at 5.30. I'm glad it's a bit cooler today.

I've spent the morning at the vets as the cat has a large skin wound and now I am waiting for her to come out of her operation to stitch her back out. All my plans have been cancelled!

Going to be sitting in the shade outside, enjoying the not hot temperatures in the south (it's 19 degrees her at the moment, may get warmer later) in the country 15 miles from Inverness.

Should have been returning from a break in the west country. Decided to return last night in the cool and I am surrounded by bags boxes and cases contents which needs to be washed/ sorted/ put away but its just TOO HOT!

SynchroSwimmer Mon 18-Jul-22 14:03:59

I was due to go for a sauna!

Previously always used to head out to a large TK Maxx store just for their brilliant aircon

Kim19 Mon 18-Jul-22 13:59:59

Perfect weeding weather. No difficult root systems as soil crumbling beautifully. Plenty of shady areas. Bliss.

MiniMoon Mon 18-Jul-22 13:51:43

I've just remembered the date. Today DH and I ought to have been at Bridgewater RHS garden near Manchester.
We cancelled as his cousin from Wiltshire is visiting relatives of her husband and wanted to meet up with her side if the family.
We are so glad the dates clashed, imagine walking around a garden in this heat!
We are having a family lunch on Wednesday at a well liked pub.
